Quick answer needed on 2.2hdi C5 water pipe

Post by waynedance »

The water house that comes of the right side of engine to the expansion bottle.

A 10mm rubber pipe comes of the thermostat (thinks) housing and after 10cm goes into a smaller plastic 5mm pipe for approx 40cm and then back into 10mm rubber hose to the expansion bottle.

Can I just replace with a 10mm straight hose from side of engine to the expansion bottle or is there a smaller pipe in the middle for a reason?

Thank you.

Normally, a smaller bore pipe would be to restrict flow, or contain higher pressure. Must be a reason because surely it would be more cost effective to have a single size pipe. Has it been replaced maybe?

Fitted straight 10mm pipe for now driven 20 miles and all good temp gauge in same place.

Will get correct pipe ordered to be safe.
