Xantia alternator - where best to buy + freewheel hub?

Post by charentejohn »

Seems alternators are a popular subject here at the moment, despite fitting a new regulator mine just went again. Slip rings weren't good but worth a go.
Started the car and a 'click/thump' from the front, like stuck brakes releasing, but blue smoke from unfer the bonnett. Switched off, opened it and coming from the alternator.

Possibly not good as an exchange unit now (maybe) so looking to buy outright. 150A unit OEM no 5705 4F Bosch

French site has this one http://www.oscaro.com/alternateur-elsto ... 480978-4-p" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but just under £200 if exchange no good.
Good old e-bay has loads like this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITROEN-XANTI ... %26ps%3D54" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Only problem is no OEM so I have e-mailed them for confirmation, they will ship to France so no problem.
They all come from China anyway (Alibaba site has bulk buy details) so I assume they buy from there in bulk and sell on.
Also reasonable http://www.mister-auto.com/alternateur/ ... 21034.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Bottom line is - I asume they are all the same fitting to the car, so only real questions to ask are what is current output (150A) and connector fitting (looks like mine).

Real price difference between France and the UK so worth waiting a few days for delivery.

Freewheel hubs, just translated this from the same site as the one above http://www.mister-auto.com/alternateur/ ... 21032.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; has a 'freewhell' pulley for another 2 euros, sounds a good deal. Still looking at this but seems just a ratchet so alternator can run on when decelerating, supposedly reduces drivebelt stress ? maybe. Manufacturer is Bolk, with an umlaut on the O so assume german but can't find any info on them.

Edited to add not the alternator at all (well it is now) but a hydraulic leak just above it dripping fluid onto the rear of the alternator, raising new thread for this one.
So the new regularor was ok, just a 'series of unfortunate events'.
