Xantia 2.0 HDI Exhaust

Post by Duke137 »

Hi All

Had a bit of work done on my xantia this month and it has come to my attention (though I already suspected it) that my front section of exhaust is blowing. I could just patch it up, but it has already been patched up twice before one of those times in this same place.

So where is the best place to buy a front section of exhaust from? Or better still has anyone got one lying about they want to sell? I believe it is a "swan neck" type up to the manifold, and incorporates the front silencer/cat/box

Thanks in advance

It really depends on which engine, and what age.
If it's a 90, then just get the non-cat pipe from an early TD, which is about a ton. Job's a good un.

If it's a 110 then things get a bit more interesting (read expensive!). This has a larger bore exhaust (up to the rear box) that can't be substituted in the same way. Early cars had a 2-part exhahust and the front part is not that bad. Later cars had a one piece exhaust and this is expensive (although a repair pipe is available from the cat back, which is cheap. So, if it's a 110, then my thought would be to get it off and patch it again (or fit the repair pipe if it's the rear section that has gone).

Your cat at the front is worth more than the new system will cost, so don't throw it away :)

If you are capable of doing the fitting yourself I would advise contacting your local exhaust distributor, these are the people who supply kwik fit etc. They will be listed in yellow pages and no doubt on the internet. I have used two different ones in London and they were quite happy to sell to the public. QED ( quality exhaust distributors) are one I've used and I believe they are nationwide.
It's some time since I've used them but something that would cost £200 fitted at kwik fit would probably cost less than £60.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.
Cheers

Thanks all, my mate will fit it so yes I am just looking for the part itself.

I am fully aware of the value of cat's at el bridge....

I will do a bit of digging and report back as and when. It isn't a priority job for me at the moment as I am up to my neck in other projects and commitments. If it falls off then that's a different matter entirely :)

These aren´t so expensive? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CI8027-CAT-PI ... 2325c5e9b0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I ordered front end of the exhaust for my HDi 110 from England maybe two years ago. It seems that price has lowered since that.

Just to confirm Richard, There's nothing available for a 110 replacing the cat from the manifold back to the back box?

Not without some butchery - it's bigger bore than the lesser diesel variants. However, the rear box is the same, and it is catted, so my guess is that if you got the non-cat pipe from an early TD, and chopped off the flange at the front, then welded the one back on off the old pipe it would go OK. The original pipe is stainless, however, and more than amenable to being patched! Mine has had the pipe welded back to the cat, and will be coming off again to have a couple of patches put on the very front part soonish. There is a repair pipe for the cat back, and if the cat area was beyond repair, but the front was OK, then you could buy one of these and chop it about to make a cat replacement pipe.

For a laugh, a new pipe from Citroen is >£1k 8-)

Unfortunately Eddie that link just went to the home page.
Richard.. mine has been patched half a dozen times and had the cat removed a few years ago..I don't think there'll be a lot left to weld to. However your idea of the cut and weld might work. Its either that or get a bespoke one made.
I wonder how many Exhausts Citroen sell?

You can get a pipe aftermarket, it's just that it's one piece, and there is no no-cat (ergo cheaper!) option. Don't see why you couldn't convert to the 2-part system fitted to earlier cars if that could be had cheaper.

The non cat pipe from manifold to rear silencer that I bought from GSF about 5 years ago was £35. Surely they haven't gone up that much? Still in good nick even now.

That part I linked IS for 110 (DW10ATED). Of course you have to buy backend separately if it´s also broken.

So I wouldn't be able to use this

on the Hdi 110 by just cutting off and replacing the manifold joint with my current one?
