Xantia estate doesn't like locking

Post by Xaccers »

Cassy has decided to become a hippy (probably too long on a vegetarian diet) and embrace a free life.
Her locks don't like staying locked.
Quite often she unlocks straight away, but at other times I've returned to find her unlocked which is a bit of a worry.

So obviously one of the locks is sticking and getting the unlock command or my IR receiver is on the fritz.

Is there a fuse to disable the central locking that I can pull until I get time to look into the issue?

Try squirting some oil into the locks at the door shut, it unstuck the ones on the C5.

Yes there is a fuse you can pull for the central locking, check the fuse listing in your owners manual. Only thing is its shared with something else. Don't quote me but I think it might be the rear window demister...

Had to do this on my dads car for a few weeks as it had the same intermittent unlock itself symptoms...

Mine has done this from time to time, but only in hot weather.

I assume there is a fraction of a millimetre of travel not available and it pulls back.

A while ago I pressed a bit on the button on the passenger door while open, wondering if this would slightly bend something or push away some crud inside, and the problem hasn't occurred since, but that might just be that it's cooler since then.

So I think oh maybe it's fixed itself, but it might come back in July.

Locking and unlocking until until it cut out, then manual lock with the buttons would work, but sometimes that unlocks 15 minutes later sometimes not. Pulling the fuse sounds like an idea I should have thought of, thanks.

Andy, and Xac....

It will be one of the plugs on the door lock motor inside the door.. Had this myself, and useually a dry connection between the plug and lock... Remove the door card, take the plug off the motor, spray some plus gas on it and plug it back in and try it...

The actual door locks them self are quite relaible... It could ALSO be the wiring between the drivers door and the car... so two things for you to look at there... If the lock ECU looses contact with the lock on the "Shut" signal, it will send an unlock.. Hence finding the car unlocked...The locks unlock by earthing one of the connections... cant recall which now..

Thanks. I will have to have a look in there, as it also developed that door open and footwell light issue, though that has gone away again for now

I've been trying to remember what we did on my Dad's car to fix it, it was the front passenger door - at first it would unlock randomly some time after the car was left but as it got worse it would unlock almost immediately after locking.

I think all I did was use some contact cleaner on the electrical connector that plugs into the lock inside the door, as citroenxm suggests, as well as cleaning the lock itself - the barrel would sometimes spin so I took the barrel out and reconditioned it and got it working properly again, the combination of the two and the problem went away...

Simple things first. Have you checked there isn't something stopping the tailgate from shutting properly - some time ago had this with a bit of twig sitting on top of the rear bumper. Could also be a slightly loose tailgate staple - been there too.
