Evening all

I want to get access to the fuel tank and sender unit. The tank seems to be held up by a cage.

Is this is case of dropping the tank? I can't see a hatch inside the vehicle.

If it is a tank drop can anyone give me advice - should I disconnect fuel lines/ how many bolts are there to disconnect? Any pitfalls?

Seems alternators are a popular subject here at the moment, despite fitting a new regulator mine just went again. Slip rings weren't good but worth a go.
Started the car and a 'click/thump' from the front, like stuck brakes releasing, but blue smoke from unfer the bonnett. Switched off, opened it and coming from the alternator.

Possibly not good...

Basic question: Does the pedal end have a nasty plastic clip?

When re-fitting the last bits and pieces to the engine after changing the head-gasket, I snagged a glove on a broken strand on the throttle cable. This is a stuck throttle waiting to happen.

The vehicle dynamics theory tells us that more grip on the rear, less tendency to over-steer. I would say if you are going to change only two tyres, they must be mounted to the rear. This ensures you won't have over-steer problem due to worn tyres.

The rear suspension on my C5 estate has failed (again). This is due to a leak on the high pressure feed on the pipe to the rear spheres roughly under the B post.

Believe it or not this is the third leak I've had in this area, It's normally found to have been where the the pipe clips into a clamp holding it into the chassis, salt...

ok may help you may not, my footwell leak is from the heater fan , it seems water or more likley snow got in the vent (under bonnet) and melted and you can see on the carpet where it leaked through the heater fan, or as said lift your boot carpet if its an estate and see if the boot membrane is leaking,

A few years ago the car had suffered the melted brown connector plug.

I cut the wires extended them with in line crimps (use ratchet crimper) and put insulated female spade connectors that fit directly onto the recessed male spades.

This extended the life of the aircon blower.

Cassy has decided to become a hippy (probably too long on a vegetarian diet) and embrace a free life.
Her locks don't like staying locked.
Quite often she unlocks straight away, but at other times I've returned to find her unlocked which is a bit of a worry.

Hi all,

Can’t get anyone to do the job for me. In the end, decided to DIY with a friend.

It turned out to be a simple 10 minutes job. So happy that the speedometer is working again without the need to buy a new instrument cluster!

Such a simple plug and play job that no workshop/mechanic wanted to do at a fee. Puzzled me.

Tyres - Currently I am on standard 15 Steels running the standard 185 65 15 sized tyres. Am I able to change to 195 65...

Finally, just to clarify on the heater issue - The blower works fine, so will need to strip down the dash at some point but even with little air flow over the windscreen it still demists ok.

Remember, if you're taking the dash out, do the heater matrix at the same time! :)

Another little trick can be to loosen the bleed screw, so the fluid comes out instead of being pushed back up the brake lines. Fiddly to make sure that air doesn't get in but does work. Stops fluid being pushed back through the ABS block too.

Far about £1 most motor factors and car spares shops will have a rubber pipe with a non return valve in...

Set off in my car this morning and at the first hill there was just no power there - no turbo.
A bit worried as I have only bought the car recently. Is this common? Will it come back on by itself?
It's been running fine as far as I can tell with plenty of power when needed up to now.

Have a look at 'Wils' post in the peugeot section. If yours is a 136bhp engine then I think they are pretty much the same. (Peugeot 407 2.0 hdi loss of power.)

Hi, I've got a 2001 C5 2.2 HDi SX (Manual) and It's got Anti Pollution fault... my mechanic took it to get the fault codes read and it came back with the following fault codes :

P1447 - Particle emission filter, filter holed.
P0100 - Mass air flow sensor, short-circuit to battery positive
P1435 - Additive system; disfunction
P0245 - Turbo...

typeAlpha, you still have probs? Now the engine's breathing better it may highlight any vacuum errors (my current obsession I admit) - don't forget the turbo needs full vacuum / no leaks. Alarm should clear after a couple of starts and will only appear when booted though.

OK Guys, job done, for information there are 3 screws on the bottom on my fan unit after they are out just pull the motor / fan out as you said, at the same time as doing this my Airbag light was flashing and as I said Citroen wanted £24 got one for a fiver from the same place as the ECU so thats 2 jobs done only leaves the ECU going to the guy...

Car starts in hot or cold condition without any issues. When cold, you can drive about 3km. Then it suddenly starts bucking and doesn't react to the accelerator pedal.
If you declutch it in this condition, the engine stalls, but can be restarted immediately without a problem. You can continue driving some 10 kilometers,...

Xantia acceleration noise

Hi, noticed yesterday that my 2000 Xantia HDI is making a rushing or roaring sort of noise when I accelerate. The harder I accelerate, the louder the noise. It definitely seems to be coming from the left rear, so I'm thinking it is exhaust related. Driving along at 40, there is no sound. At 60, it can be heard slightly, but seems to fade away....

on way home from work today my c8 2.2 hdi lost power to the extent that is was crawling up a small hill having to put the car into 1st just to get it up. no warnings on the dash. took it to my mates house and plugged it into his diagnostics and got 2 fault codes p0026 p00c2 ?? checked hoses from turbo and no bust ones were obvious, cleared...

The car is running fine but a week ago I was out and it 'coughed' once then was ok, next day I started it and it stopped within a few seconds. Did this a few times with the same result.
Started if a couple of days later and it runs ok, but didn't want to take it out without checking for problems. I am in France and if it packs up I am not allowed...

Just a note to say what I found when ai removed the fuel pump, filter, strainer on the Xantia.
This is a 2002 model Xanta 2 just in case there is a difference, seeme some other versions have a different fitting system ?

So, uner the right side rear seat (tilt it forward) is a large rubber cover, uner the carpet and a plastic trim at the front...

Guilty of not checking the oil for months (have been willing the car to die due to the dreaded HP fuel problem). Anyway checked it and found water in the oil, but the coolant level hasn't dropped and no sign of oil in the water. I suspect water has gotten in via the air intake in all the very wet weather we had a while back. I've had this happen...

I have not lost any water and no sign of any oil in the water. I mostly make short journeys to and from work (about 10 miles).Cpuld try a longer journey see if it burns some of the water off, if not will have to change oil and keep and eye on it, I hadn't checked it for month, so it could of been a gradual build up of condensation.

We have just purchased a 3 year old C5 Exclusive Tourer with the hydropneumatic suspension. At first all seemed well however after a week of driving the rear suspension started going down suddenly and quickly then automatically pumping itself up again whilst driving. It sometimes does it whilst at a stand but most frequently whilst driving, speed...

Hi, there is an electronic sensor/switch situated in the center of the rear of the car, this has a linkage to the anti roll bar,try cleaning with switch cleaner & or WD40 or similar. Be careful whilst you are laid under the car it may sit down on you.

Evening all,

Quick question for you, is the brake fluid separate to the hydraulic system with the C5, and if so what fluid spec is advised. Im so used to the Xantia so want to make sure I make no mistakes! Also what is the interval for a LDS change? Thinking it may be time to get it done.

The water house that comes of the right side of engine to the expansion bottle.

A 10mm rubber pipe comes of the thermostat (thinks) housing and after 10cm goes into a smaller plastic 5mm pipe for approx 40cm and then back into 10mm rubber hose to the expansion bottle.

Can I just replace with a 10mm straight hose from side of engine to the...

I prefer not to scrimp on engine oil. It's just too expensive to sort any damage caused by cheap stuff.
I like to use Mobil 1 ESP 5W/30 Oil 5L in my 2.2 HDi. It helps prolong FAP life. I may be a bit bias as I used to get mine free.
It ain't cheap, that's for sure but my engine deserves the best.

Warning came up tonight as I nipped to the shop. No puncture . I will give it a puff of air tomorrow in daylight to see if that cures it. After a warm day, it has turned very cold now and I'm wondering if expansion and contraction of air in the tyre has maybe caused the alarm to sound.
Anyone got any thoughts? 8-[

Thanks for the tip. I use an alloy wheel cleaner and then a spray (AutoGlym) to give a final finish. I agree that regular washing should help remove the salt etc and some light oil should keep the moisture away. Looks as though your method is working and I will keep an eye on the metal caps.

My 98 xantia td estate is extra rattly and a less then presise od steering at the moment. That'll be the farm track no doubt.
I've done the outer track rode ends several times already as mot fails however i've never been taught how to inspect the car to identify the issue. the track rods feel tight but it might not be that. Its definately...

Lack of precise steering could be /////, worn lower arm bushes, among other things.
From my experience....
2 easy ways to identify front wheel worn lower arm bushes especially the rears. Try the power on and off whilst holding the steering wheel straight. If the car starts to wander at each power change chances are one of the rubbers has started...

Ok on the o/s/f suspension leg there is fluid leaking down, is there a seal or does it mean a new suspension leg?

Is there any special measures to working on the suspension like needing to pressurize up the system or bleeding or is it just a case of topping up fluid and starting the engine?
