With old pumps comes old hardened seals that have hair line cracks in them.
The hot oil gets into the cracks, then when it cools it gels/polymerises and expands, this opens the cracks further and eventually the pump starts to leak. It could take years, it could take months, it's not the veg causing cracks, it's the veg making them larger.

Hi all,

Sylv is stuck in Austria with a leaking heater matrix.

I only replaced it less than 2 years ago so I am not best pleased at the fact it has gone and that I have to replace it again.

Can someone who knows the layout of the ZX engine bay take me some photos of where the pipes connect to the heater matrix and also a series of photos coming...

Hi can undo one pipe where it goes to matrix/bulkhead pref inlet then put something that fits inside it then to another piece of pipe to where other pipe goes back to engine then nothing cut/butchered then when get new matrix just remove pipe connect old one back and away you go as not going to live there forever but safer than over heating...

Just about to do this (raining today) and have a quick question, I assume the bolt is right hand thread ?
Just checking before using an air impact wrench. Should be right hand thread as the pulley has a woodruff key so shouldn't turn anyway, still you never know, wouldn't be the first time I have tried to remove a bolt the wrong way, usually...

Ignition switch dismantling - it can be done!

On my HDi xantia 2.0 I had issues with suspect supply to starter. So here's a quick run through of the check and fix.
Battery earth off, column shrouds off, key detector ring off. Cable armour off. Unplug 3 pairs from switch - easier if lower panel off to separate connectors.
Remove lock securing screw from front of housing, insert key, press on...

Well it's that time of the year again :)

Had a look over the old girl tonight. Seems ok except for:

O/S lower ball joint has excessive play-that'll explain the strange rattle/free play i've had in the front suspension then ;)

And the rear arm bearings are needing doing. I've known this for quite a while but never got round to doing them :oops:...

Forgot to update this. It passed without advisories. I have since replaced the front tyres as they had worn on the outer edges. I still need to do the passenger rear arm bearing as it creaks and groans at times.

I have the STOP illuminated on the dash along with the ABS light and ABS fault displayed. I have used Lexia and it says Perm Fault Electrovalve, can anyone shed any light on what this is likely to be and the location of this valve please.

Thought I'd let you know about a possible cause of starter wiring 'failure'.

While checking wiring connections around the battery area, I disconnected and cleaned everything in sight.. replaced battery and celebrated return of interior blower and aircon. Great celebration!.

Turned key to start... nothing. No feed to solenoid.

Hi need to sort my zanty out as MOT soon the drivers door won't open as locked by deadlock but other doors are ok ive tried with key in it and passenger door the key works on both doors but the deadlock won't come off drivers door so won't open from inside either.

Can someone list all the faults that can contribute to a 2.2HDi going into limp mode ?

I have physically removed the Particle Filter element, and had it removed from the ECU, but I am still getting an error for Engine Additive ....I assume this is the Eolys injection tank being empty.

Anything else that can be removed to stop the darn thing...

Sorry about this,second post and asking for help :oops:
I bought 51 plate 1.9d Berlingo or should i say saved it from the scrapyard needed a clutch thats sorted no probs there but, now i have a missfire the story goes.
1) rev counter dont work
2)Turn key glowplug light goes off and starts first touch of key and settles down to a steady tickover...

Anyone have any details about the reverse gear braking device on the C5 gearbox?

The third cable from the lever operates a plunger in the side of the box but I can't see what it's supposed to move in the box, the previous owner fitted a clutch and I'm wondering if something's been left out.

Not seen one of these boxes out of the car and looking...

The plunger can be accessed from the n/s wheel arch. You may have to remove the plastic arch liner, I can't remember. Looking at the gearbox from the wheel arch it's tucked away behind the end casing. The assembly is held in with one screw I think it's a T40. It should pull out with the cable attached. Check that the cable is correctly fitted...

Hi last week when it got down to 3 degrees my xantia seemed slow to turn over. Now its warmish again its fine. I also had all the dash lights and the rev counter /speedo going mad while starting.

I have a ZX 1.6 and a few weeks ago gave it a coolant change, I thought successfully. However, I've now noticed that once the temperature hits 90-ish, coolant starts leaking from around the bleed screw on the top of the radiator (passenger side) - this one:

Fitting Xantia front window clip

My front window went pop today - it's fallen off the winder.

I've got the green clip and rubber grommet as seen in this thread

I've replaced the clip once before (rather more annoying, the thing was unwound), and all I remember about refitting the window to the clip...

make sure the clip is already inserted halfway into the rubber before inserting into the glass.

All sorts of little niggles are showing up now. Nothing major and all electronic.

Nearside wing mirror wont index in reverse, just sits there wobbling back and forth when reverse is selected and wont be budged by door button.

Rear widows have a mind of their own and pick and choose which buttons will operate them.

I started today with 600 miles on the odometer and the fuel guage showing half a tank.

Hi,

Seem to be having a run of problems with different cars over the last couple of years.... Wonder whether these symptoms mean anything to anyone...

Should the car not even cough on ether spray, check the cambelt. If it's undamaged and taut, then I strongly urge to replace the positive terminal.

Made a start to do the timing belt on my S2 Xantia 1.9 TD.
Got as far as trying to take the covers off the timing belt, couldn't see any more bolts- the bloke I had do the auxiliary belt had knackered up the square hole, so had to turn the engine over slowly and lever the belt off. I then couldn't get the crank pulley off without having to make up...

Getting the crank bolt undone was easy- been cranking starter to do that for nearly 50 years. One thing the early Xants had in their favour- not so much electrical crap hung on them as on the S2. A mechanical auxiliary belt tensioner was always easier than the chuffing great spring affair that is the auto type. WHY ?????. Not necessary or wanted....

My driver's seat is er... somewhat broken and the MOT looms.
I have found a set of leather electric seats but wonder if they will need to be activated before they can be fitted - i.e. to move them on the rails to access the securing bolts?

I had visions of replacing the driver's seat on collection of them but this looks like it may be a problem....

While cleaning the seats in preparation for fitment I extracted the cassette then replaced it.
Now it won't eject, just makes whirring noises.
