C5 mk1 110 HDI estate

Post by StevieOMG »

Okay. Recently I have fallen out of love with my C5 having owned it for eight years and putting 130k on it. To date, apart from normal wear and tear items (brake pads, disks etc, drop links etc) the only things I have had to replace have been a washer pump and a mass flow sensor. The rear started sinking when parked about three years ago and I have lived with this. Now the rear arm bearings are gone/going as I have the wonderful squeak when driving and rear clonk when going over a bump.

Having looked at and driven a significant range of vehicles, nothing seems to match for ride, comfort, size and economy and I know there is a lot of life left in the old girl yet (my rear screen had opened and closed properly since I got it). On the basis of all of this, I have decided to keep it and give it a little bit of tlc.

Can anyone recommend somewhere to get the rear bearings and the seal on the ram done such that it becomes a fully functioning vehicle again. I have emailed a couple of so called citroen specialists but they obviously don't want to know as they haven't bothered to respond. I am happy to travel to get the job done properly (within reason). I'm based partway between Bristol and Bath and am calling upon You good folk to point me in the direction of someone who will meet my expectations.

All the best, Stevieomg

Maybe a bit far for you but a long term Citroen specialist, about 8 miles from the Welsh side of the Severn Bridge.

There used to be a good Citroen garage in Ottery St Mary near Sidmouth, don't know if he is still there, people used to come from miles away to him.

I have recently replaced the radius arm bearings in mine, not the easiest of jobs as everything was rusted up bu if you can find a decent independent, possibly a one man band, that's probably the cheapest way to go about it it. When you get it done get them to pack the inside of the arm with grease with a little oil, they won't go again.
