Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

you could try some of the tyre garages I have heard from others experience that may have the right tools to remove locking nuts if you dont have the key ,ight be worth getting them all taken out and replaced with new ones with a key sooner rather than latter incase of a puncture

That is effectively the engine management light - it could mean anything. Lexia required. If it's a 90 BHP model then it won't have a DPF so that could be ruled out....

hi all i,ve not had my berlingo van long its a 2008 reg but i,ve noticed the mileage display pixels are playing up and getting very faint could i buy a used speedometer would it still show my mileage as its only done 56k with history, or would it show the donors mileage thanks

As above really it will take the higher mileage, you'd have to change both the BSi and the clocks from the same donor to stand a chance of keeping the mileage, and then it might not work. Not 100% sure but if you just change the clocks as Wheeler has said it will go up, not down.

Where can I get a O/S Rear brake pipe, either pre-made or just a length with the ends on? I'd prefer somewhere local to Leeds, almost anywhere in West Yorkshire as I have transport.

The reason I need a new pipe is because I've been changing the rear brake disks and pads, also removing and swapping the Calipers over as the dreaded rust has been...

Well, it's the up/down when removing the wheel for bleeding really, that's all.

Yep, that's true enough :twisted: If you have an Activa you can do them without removing the wheel due to the size of the spokes and cut-outs.

Despite all though, a hydraulic Citroen is still a damm sight easier to bleed than a conventional car :(

I have purchased a second-hand 2003 C5 HDi that appears to be very very tidy in all respects.

However when at idle with the auto trans in park, the tacho will dip slightly every second or so, giving a little hunt or miss .

Hi there Lighty!

The sounds are pretty much as described. The whistle form the engine compartment is definitely in time with the engine fault. At times the fault will clear and the engine will idle smoothly for some 20 seconds before before it returns again,

I will use a short length of hose (from my ear) to listen around the engine compartment...

Bosch calipers; later Activa, Xantia V6, XM V6. When you uncouple the caliper fully from the carrier bracket, there is a slider that appears to be screwed into the caliper casting body. This sliding bolt or stud has an intermediate section with five flats to allow removal or installation with a specific tool.

Has anyone found a decent workaround?...

Some people nominate pentagonal bolt sizes by length of the flats.
Some people nominate pentagonal bolt sizes by the distance from a flat across to its opposing point.

For sockets sold as brake specialty items, both types of size nomination, appear to be used.

Right, finally got my 110 HDI sorted with an MOT and a fully working hydraulic system.

Now I want to get it looking smart again.

I have a set of Exclusive alloys to go on so that's the wheels sorted.

The side trim is looking shoddy though. The front and rear bumper trim are good but the chrome effect door trims look awful. Do they come off...

Most towns have coach trimmers who should be able to do the job. Not sure how available the fabric is though. You may need to find a donor seat or two to supply it. - perhaps a rear seat...

Got another Citroen Xantia Y reg 110 HDI estate that runs like a dream compared to the Vauxhall Estate Tdi which I scrapped due to failed diesel pump.

Hi, my 1992 ZX 1.9D is getting rain water in the drivers side footwell. The water is usually under the carpet rather than on the carpet so I think it must be coming down from under the pedals from the bulkhead area.
I tried sealing the aeriel as this leaked on my old 106 but no improvement.

After some time this morning with a hose it seems to be dripping down behind the dash near the relays.
I suspect the windsreen rubber seal and will try to re-seal it.

my car has a very wierd throttle. from standstill the initial 1/3 of travel barely makes a difference to throttle position. sort of like a logarithmic potentiometer. maybe this first 1/3 of travel equates to 10% throttle opening. is this just a trait of this model, or does my car have something wierd going on?

Jenny's bonnet switch has snapped its clip so I can't set the alarm.
Is it a push to make or push to break switch?
IE can I just cut it off or do I need to cut and solder the wires together to make the car think the bonnet is always closed?

Remove the grill, it's under the o/s bonnet catch.
As the catch is pressed down its bottom edge pushes a button on the top of the switch.

Hi guys, been absent from the forum due to C5 not giving much trouble since the last hydraulic pipe split until yesterday :( .

Hi all,

I have a 51 plate C5 2Lt HDI Saloon Diesel on just over 100K miles.

Going up hills sometimes it can stay in 3rd gear and provides sufficient torque to quietly keep chugging away other times on the same hill I need to change down as there's hardly any torque and the speed drops away quickly meaning I have to change down and give it some...

I had a new MAF for mine for around £30 through Ebay, a MAF fault usually puts on the engine management light though doesn't it?
The light doesn't always come on, it depends upon what software version the ECU is running and the nature of the fault.

Simplest and cheapest way to remove a particle filter - this is for a C5 2.2 HDI - much improved performance and fuel economy

1. Remove the particle filter and gut it - masonry drills are very good - leave the cat converter in place - put empty pipe/cylinder back in exhaust and connect pressure...

I had a 'K' reg Peugeot 405 saloon with the same engine. 1.9 D with 71 BHP.
It actually went quite well.
We took it on holiday all the way to the Costa Brava and back and it was great.
I always got 44 mpg from it.

I also, many years ago, had a ZX 1.9 D as a hire car for 2 weeks on holiday in Spain and that went really well

got a problem with my c5 bought the car and the passenger side wheel had some play when i got it checked the service and that bearing had been changed not so long ago. anyway got the bearing done at a garage and its still the same could i have a worn hub ?

if its a front bearing we are talking here its not adjustable,
what pulls it up tight is the hub nut and the CV joint, they have to be F/T tight,

try firstly tightening up the hub nut some more

I managed to get 3 brakes bled today but when i got to the last wheel the nipple had been completely rounded :( so i tried very gently with a small vice-grips and it wouldn't budge so i left it alone before i took it off completely!

So my question is how will it affect the car if at all?

I took it for a spin straight after and there wasnt much...

Those French electrics and the cold weather..... :lol:

If I brake and indicate at the same time, the rear wiper comes on. It then continues to come on when I either brake or indicate. But only for a while, then it has enough, and goes off for some vin rouge or something, till we get the brake and indicator combo again. Cool 8-)

Hi parents have just got the above and when changing gear you get a long pause so the car slows down for a couple of seconds then catches up, you can also feel this.

So just wondering if this is normal for this type of box

wonder if someone has a Lexia close to Gloucester that could check over both my XMs - one could do with the suspension checked and the other has a warning light on that I would like to check out.

my fan does not work, turns freely by hand and all fuses even secret ones ok, read somewhere that it is likely to be corroding wiring ion the box mounted on the front of the rad and that citroen do a replacement loom for this.

anyone got any experience of this/ car is a mk 2 2.2hdi diesel auto

Just bought a 2001 C5 110 SX and begining to regret it only drove it home from dealer 30 miles done a few jobs on it took it for a ride and there is now a loud cracking /benging noise from the rear offside wheel area, doing the citarobics will sometimes reproduce it sometimes not, pressing down on towball with foot will also sometimes reproduce...

Hello, posting this on behalf of my father.all indicators have packed in. checked fuse. The indicator stalk/dash indicators not operating - hazards are.
So where next? Is there a relay somewhere?
He says it all got rather wet last week in the rain.. Could be related?

My turbo's stopped working because the diaphragm in the actuator's punctured, anyone know if they can be bought separate to the turbo or has anyone got one going spare?

well I crashed my car into a large rock...long story... :shock:

the upshot of it is that I need a new engine, sump and air con compressor. insurance has approved a new engine that is being ordered from Citroen.

my car is a 58 plate C5 with 44,000 miles, 2.0 HDI. when the new engine goes in do I have to run it in ? will it come with new turbo ,...

My Xantıa*s ınstrument panel gauges all dropped to zero position and at the same time air condition stopped working. Air condition button green light was off and the cabin heater blower was also off. Thıs happened while the engine was on and while driving. Does anybody know the cause of this strange behaviour?

Hi guys, perhaps somebody has had this fault before and can help me, the engine management light comes on after start up when hot, after the engine has been turned off for ten minutes or so, i used a lexia3 to analyse it, and it says under intermittent faults:-
Control of the turbo piloting valve short circuit to -ve or open circuit i dont know...

Hi,
I'm getting around 38 - 39 mpg doing a mix of motorway and A road driving (70 - 80 mph), this drops to 32 if I'm doing city driving.
The fuel/air filter are new and the emissions test was fine for the MOT.
The brakes are not binding therefore any suggestions as to why the mpg is so low?
I had thought about replacing the MAF although I'm not...

That's a big difference and worth investigating, however I assume that we are talking 2.0 Ltr 138 here in which case, 45mpg is about what I would expect, 56 even on long distance motorway work sounds a bit optimistic. Think I would investigate accuracy of mileage readings as a first pass, drive a known distance and see how many miles the odo...

I need to get the trim painted on the bumper corner, it is the part that comes black on the base models.

Reason for asking is it would be easier to remove the trim and give to a painter friend rather than leaving the whole car. Do not want to go pulling and do more damage if it is not supposed to come off once fitted.

I want to fit a lighter socket in the boot but only want it to be live when the ignition is on. Is there anything in the boot aera I can splice into easily that won't cause the computer to freak out any time I think about doing anything to this car it seem you need a lexia to do it.

If all else fails I might just splice into the towbar electrics...

The blue plug is for an electric window switch, there should be another similar plug at the other side, might be a different colour though.

just got the 1 (unless its fallen inside), dont need to bother about the other though as i mentioned no leccy windows.

During the last MOT, it was found that some of the hydraulic pipes needed replacing on my Xantia HDI. This included the 'curly' rear brake pipes and the one that runs from the ABS block under the bonnet to the rear.
After the work was done, there is an LHM leak from around the crossmember behind the rear of the sump. At least this is where it's...

I have just bought a bit doggy but ok C5 estate !

I gave £650 for the car which i think is ok ? ( I hope) The car drives very well & everything seems to work, I have to say much smoother than my old Xantia,
My only concerns are when i tested the cat The engine light was on but went away...

I had thought of having a look at that one myself as its not to far away but I really want an SX with dual zone heating as I am always cold and end up cooking the wife.

As citroenmad says if the clutch is not actually slipping I wouldn't worry about it. My 406 Hdi had a very high pedal when I bought it and still has after nearly 20,000 miles,...

Occasionally when restarting the Xant after a short stop, refuelling or a stop at the shop. I turn the key and she either doesn't start or takes just that bit longer. This is associated with the dash dial needles gong all the way round ( like a low battery start) and the radio loosing its code. It doens't happen often and is just a little annoying...

Just to keep you up to date on the original post.. The power issue was a broken earthwire from the gearbox to the battery. Fixed by running another in parallel.
The badly balanced wheel whilst turning feeling was in fact the rear engine mount it was completely shot.. the replacement of which has cured a few problems .. not wanting to go into 3rd...

What's the views and opinions on the 2.1td & 2.0hdi xantia , my wife had a 2.1 a few years ago and it was great , never drove a hdi engined xantia , I've seen a few nice examples recently and I am very tempted , I had a 2.0 hdi engined dispatch that was pretty impressive , any views and opinions welcome ,

Two litre is much simpler as for security.. theres only the key transponder issue to pass and you can get these removed now for a fee which leaves the ecu car open and thats its.. my experiance of the 2 litre 8v is it rarely goes wrong and if they do theres not many things to stop them working..

my own hdi xantia has now run to 214k and not...

Hello all , Having owned my xantia for only a few months i decided to do a few jobs that needed and still need doing !

First off its a great forum ,i changed the can belt and water pump ,the tensioners and all the aux stuff inc the bottom pully successfully with help from...

Hi, I managed to catch the tray( I don t know offical name, sorry) on my drive, at work, almost ripping it off! I have just taken a look at it. some of the bolt holes have been badly torn . my question is; will it be possible to refit and make it safe again? I guess the tray has an important role? thanks in advance Terry .

You can work wonders on a broken undertray with a pop riviter and some ali sheeting. On the only time I drove my previous Xantia for a few months without its undertray I did lots of damage to the wheel liners because they were able to thrash about in the wind.

This is our Xsara's untray which dropped from its rear fixings.

Just changed 1 washer on 1 injector.All went well until I turned the key.Will not start!Battery light stays on after ignition turned off.Economy Mode active on the display and all ignition lights go off after a short period but battery light stays on.I'm sure that everything has gone back as it should.Very little to get wrong really.Have primed...

That is a good link and well worth a look.Have managed to reset BSI but still have a non starter.Will fire on the dreaded easy start but smoky although I expected it.No doubt I will cure it eventually but always in the back of my mind now is this dreaded BSI.Have just got the Cit disc via emanuals and even inputting vin number the manufacturer...
