Diagnostic hardware/software...Lexia, PP2000.....n00b

Post by jotto »

I did a search and didnt really find what I was looking for but I'm pretty sure this question has been asked many times so sorry to go over it again.

As a new convert to Citroen, What exactly do I need to buy to plug in to the car, read any codes, erase faults, check and test components etc?

I have a laptop that I use with our ford Galaxy, the software is free and the lead was about £6. Plug it in, read the codes, erase codes...log live data etc. All fairly simple.
Reading through some of the lexia posts on here it seems to be a little more complicated for the Citroen?

From what I have read so far, I need to get something like this?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexia-3-Diagn ... 35cfcd42c2

Also, the laptop to run it is generally better to run with XP pro? Any ideas if the software will run inside a virtual box enviroment?
What are the different bits of the kit? I see mentions of Lexia, PP2000 and also Diagbox.

Apologies once again if this makes you all throw your arms up saying not another lexia thread! :-D

hi Jot
I am a newbie re diagnostics but
yes to the interface, I didn't click the link but pay maybe 70 £ for it and the software etc

but..
I think you need to download software from a link on here instead,.. it takes a while and can be a little problematic to install - depending on your IT skills. think disc images and mapped drives..

I will be corrected but my understanding is Diagbox is modern Peugeot / Citroen software for recent cars... but incorporates lexia (older cits) and PP2000 (older pugs) - these software run from within diagbox,

I managed to run it in a netbook running windows 7, after a few hiccups..
may run easier in XP but fine on 7
don't accept any updates that you will surely be asked for when installing and running

also, once all done, you need to remove and insert USB just around the time you select Lexia software, otherwise communication goes pete tong

essentially, you need the software, the interface, a USB cable between them, and the main lead onto the car ODB port..

others know way much more ;)

Hi Jotto

I'm new to this Lexia stuff too. this is where I got mine from

http://www.ukpolboy.comoj.com/1_8_Lexia ... cable.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It comes with everything needed (except instructions!) I emailed the seller and he guided me through the process. XP is recommended but I'm aware of others who use windows 7 and 'trick' the laptop inot thinking its XP.

It is a quirky program but then citroens are quirky cars :-)

good luck with it mate

It will work on Windows 7, but (if you want to cover most cars, i.e. more than a few years old ) it will need to be a 32bit version. While it will work on 64bit, very few cars can handle 64bit communication.

I'm running Diagbox 7.x with Chinese device for around 50 quid on Windows 7 x64 with no tricks, no issues.
For those who are not familiar with IT- the way 32bit program (Diagbox) communicates with 64bit CPU has nothing to do with USB- communication with car.

If you don't need to change anything in your vehicle's ECUs, just read/clear faults and to have an access to live data from your smartphone, use OBD2 Bluetooth device like ELM327 for around 6 pounds.

Where did you get your device and does the ELM327 come with it's own software?

I have a usb OBD2 Lead that I use with vagcom software.....I wonder if it would be compatible with some software that I could download?

Sorry I've made a mistake, I paid 73 for Lexia device.
Elm327 doesn't have any own software, it's just OBD2 reader, works with anything. Ie. I use Torque for Android but there are a lot more. Check YouTube to see what it can do.

FWIW, I tried to get my Lexia working on an old windows laptop, and struggled... it installed in the end, but never worked properly, except for one evening back in September..! After which I updated it and everything fell apart again. I'm not very Windows-experienced though so it may have been partly my failing. Recently I installed it in fresh XP under emulation, in Parallels on a recent Macbook Pro, and it's worked fine ever since- to my surprise! I had trouble with Diagbox (it never launched Lexia successfully) so I didn't bother this time. I went with the "quit while you're ahead" approach and won't try to update it.

Got a reason to buy one now - Sister's Xsara's HDi has gone into limp. Jim at Easy diagnostics points out his is Rev C and others might not be - does anyone know if Polboy's offering is the latest, and will cover up to date cars?

Just to ask, anyone knows whether this seller is credible, and if the package he sells will work for my C5 X7? Out of all the ads on ebay.co.uk, this one seems the latest piece of software and the best feedback ... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEXIA-3-CITRO ... 3389a5f3c2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... also, what's the reason to use (and pay extra) for the S1279 extender (read: do I need it), the item is here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITROEN-PEUGE ... 3389a5f53b" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ?
