Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Newly purchased car with indicated 88k miles!

The car runs well enough but has occasionally stalled and can be a git to hot start but I put this down
to a leaky primer bulb/return pipe circuit which will be relplaced this weekend. The car is showing
symptoms of a leaky heater matrix as it mists slightly and you can smell the unmistakable curry...

Dont know if I asked this question but here goes again,I bought a Lexia through the Moderator in January and have used it a few times and now it seems to be broken contacted Vehicle Diagnostics last week and the guy told me to try a few things which my son and I have tried even rebooting the lap top and he even loading it onto his lap top even...

Guys, i have had a problem for a while on my Xantia which resulted in the front end jumping to top position when turning into a parking space and in drive throughs the front end would rise to top and then crash to lowest position. The car has also been riding high on the front end slightly for ages. I know other people on here have had this same...

This is my opinion, as a mechanical engineer, on why our Pluriel leaks into it’s boot space. It is based on a sample of one, but appears correct.
There doesn't seem to be much on C3's on here though the net seems full of people wanting this info to decrying ther Cit's. So I thought I should post it...

i fitted a new cam belt kit and water pump to JohnD's C5 2.0 16V HDI 138 on thursday, i had to almost shoe horn the belt onto the sprocket and tensioners :shock: :twisted: :roll: ,
just like the DW8 belt i really thought it was not going to give just that tiny bit more ](*,) :-** :spineyes:

It seems the flywheel hole is 8mm and maybe not very deep so 3/16 rod would be very loose.

i didnt find 3/16th to small/loose i just felt it wouldn't go in/locate by very much at all, as though it was just the tip entering a small dent rather than a peg hole in the flywheel

This refers to a MK2 Citroen Xantia 1.9TD 1998 with 159K on the clock.
For some time there had been an annoying squeak and rattling noise from the auto tension spring area.
I discovered this when the spring was replaced, a new spring shown for comparison.

A colseup shows the elliptical hole.

A week later louder rhythmic rattling noise...

Gosh :shock: You were lucky the pulley didn't completely part company Masood! The end results could have been very nasty indeed.

I've seen wear in the spring like that and put it down simply to years of jiggling up and down. If you watch the tensioner carefully you'll see that at some speeds the tensioner oscillates. That would be plenty to wear...

ok installed cruise switch had it switched on with lexia not working. ran diagnostic on lexia came up with 1 of the brake switches active all the time. today went to check switches found white one in place and a red plug with 2 wires no second switch.

what type of switch do i need. is it just a standard brake switch or something else

I recently had to change my insurance on the Zx16v from lancaster who had gave me a ridiculous renewal premium . I rang around a few brokers and nobody wanted to give me an agreed valuation policy with limited mileage of 3k per year . I eventually got a good price from Adrian Flux , so I sent all my relevant pictures of the car , my old agreed...

Hi just wondering how easy if at all possible it is to replace the bulbs inbehind the speedo and rev counter as they aren't working, the bulbs behind the center console ain't working either, I think I remember being told that it's leds that light the dash if so will that mean replacing the whole clock assembly and if so will any do or does it have...

Just a quick update I got the clocks from my m8 his car had 165k on it but has had no battery now for 6 months and when I plugged it in thinking my milage was about to rocket I got the same milage I had b4 141415 on the down side I had to put a new Altinator in as mine wasn't charging the battery.

I took my old faithful 2 litre Hdi C5 into a local establishment for its annual MOT, not really expecting any problems. Its only done 154 thousand miles after all :-D

Upon my return I was somewhat dismayed to find a list of failure faults:

Both front struts leaking fluid.

Balljoints on front suspension have split gaiters.

Rear suspension unit...

Usual problems with MoT testers who know zilch about hydro-pneumatic Citroens. It's pointless argueing, just find an MoT station with someone who does know them and go back there. The guy who's tested my Xantia has owned at least one himself.

All done this morning ! I found another place selling stretch boots and cones, I think this 106 is the easiest i have ever done as it did nt have anti roll bar ! I was lucky the boot had only just split and was full of grease still so it cleaned up well. Thanks for your help

Given a C3 XTR 1.4 Sensodrive, with a dealer quote for £1500 for both new gearbox and clutch actuators ; or £400 for 2nd-hand gearbox and £600 to fit it , in a 04 plate 80K-miles old car worth about £1500 ...

Two (South Bucks) Citroen dealers have looked at it, the 2nd one had more Sensodrive knowledge, but they said I was ok if I drove it in...

Looks like the pressure plate has broke into many bits and smacked the clutch and gearbox, leaving a massive hole in the gbox!! So I need a new gbox. Has anyone got a new gearbox for sale? Or can I just use any ma box and but the electrical cluch and shifter onto it?.. Thanks Alex

I have just purchased my 1.9tdi xantia temptation. 98000 miles, full service history for £200 as a part exchange.

On the way home i turned the aftermarket radio up. (not that loud) but as i did it suddenly lost all power and the clock display went blank.

Can someone please suggest places to start looking for the possibly fault. Maybe blown...

I would start with the fuse. I think the radio, clock and a few other things are on the same fuse.

I had a collision yesterday. Came around a roundabout to some lights changing to amber, started breaking for the light, 2 cars in front of me neither breaking, looked to be going through the lights all of a sudden the car in front plants the brakes, I do the same but collide with the vehicle. Yes, it will fit. I`ve replaced it few months ago due a piston being lower than the other - maybe a hydraulic shock coused by a crack inside air heater exchanger on the short admission path. Donor car was a 03 model with 4HX engine code fitted like mine.

Having had the nasty experience of changing Headlamp Bulbs & also Spot Lamp, or Fog-Light bulbs & experienced tearing the flesh off my hands & using bad language trying to fit bulbs in such confined spaces.
Experience has taught me that removing the Headlamp is the fastest and easiest way to remove & fit a bulb. Also if front spotlight/fog-light...

I've got a 2001 Xantia HDi SX that has just failed it's MOT on handbrake efficiency.

The car has had new handbrake cables last year and new front discs and pads and the calipers rebuilt 2 days prior to being MOT'd this year, the car brakes work perfectly and are perfectly balanced however the handbrake efficiency came out at only 5%.

We tightened the cables slightly and with the footbrake on worked the handbrake several times last night after speaking with citroenxm who suggested it.

Handbrake then on the driveway seemed much better. Took it in this morning and it passed so it seems to have done the trick!

Hi there,

98 xantia TD. Been noticing the steering is getting heavier and think the suspension feels a little stiffer.

The hydraulic pump to pressure regulator pipe has sprung a leak, which isnt helping. I need to replace the whole pipe, Citroen say they dont have any anymore!

Does anyone have a 5270GL?

Not sure if that leak is affecting the...

As per FCF ideas about how to fix the heavy steering i've fixed a few things to sort the heavy steering.

Installed a new hydraulic pump to pressure regulator pipe
checked and cleaned the LHM filters
Sprayed grease at universal joint (think it was that, got to it through drivers wheel arch)
fluid is mostly green, been changed over the last year...

Can someone please tell me why my Citroen Xantia Front Brake Pads have a pin protruding from the metal side. According to Haynes, it is a Locating Pin which engages with the slots in the face of the piston in the brake cylinder - but why??

Every time I have had to remove the inner brake pads, this pin snags with the piston face making it really...

Assuming it looks a bit like this

You are probably looking for Volts, and on the car this is DC Volts- the V range on the left here. The V range on the right is AC Volts, the symbols beside the letter V tell you this. You choose the lowest range that will include the voltage you expect- for a 12V system that will be 20 in this case.

Hi folks

I've got a broken exhaust mounting bracket on my 1993 ZX 1.9D.

It's the single, front mount, on the rear silencer box. The metal rod has broken away from the rest of the metal bracket. It's the part that's attached to the car floor that's gone. The exhaust itself is ok.

It happened after I went to a wedding at a country hotel. I went...

If I did manage to get a bracket off another car, by drilling the welds out, what would be the best way to weld it onto my car? I can't spot weld it. Would welding around the edges be ok?

I looked at it a few months ago.

It does look very similar to 2K actually, even down to the installer. It seems reasonable although it was a bit buggy back then, it may of had a newer release since I last looked.

I do know my Diagbox will not install on 2K though due to the installer searching for a non-existent path (which is present in XP / 7...

Hi All

I recently purchased a genuine Citroen C4 alarm and got my local garage to install it. The alarm work fine when opening the doors, boot and bonnet.

I know the alarm takes approx 15-30 to arm itself but the ultrasonic sensors on the a-pillar don't appear to work unless they arm after a longer period?

I have locked myself in the car...

Well I have found that the ultrasonic sensors are working. I wasn't leaving it long enough. Moving in the car after a minute triggers the siren and lights.

@ashy90: The C4 VTR+ is an option and standard on Exclusive models, anything before that doesn't include it. The one I bought was a brand new genuine citroen alarm for £70

Had my 2003 citroen c5 up for MOT...failed due to drivers side handbrake not pulling....mechanism was seized up completely. I got it freed up with a bit of WD40 and moving it back and forward. the pin is there to stop the piston rotating as the internal mechanism adjusts it self up with pad wear,

if the internal mechanism rotates the main outter piston when trying to adjust it wont/cant adjust up,

the trick is to make sure the piston is set at the correct point to line a slot up so it clears the pin fully as you swing the caliper back...

Hi all,

A mate has just called me reporting that he has an issue with smoke coming from his NSF.

He can feel that the wheel is warm/hot. Not been driving fast or braking hard.

The smoke was of such quantity that as he was at a junction and saw smoke rising up over the side of the bonnet.

Hello all,
The Xant is going well, however the rear suspension appears to be doing something it shouldn't.

It seems not to be sure when to make corrections to the rear ride height, I sometimes feel the back end dropping down when I've stopped at some traffic lights, it's also very slow to drop back to normal after being hitched up to medium...

Nobody else has mentioned this, but before you expend too much effort chasing this problem I would point out that to a certain degree what you describe is perfectly normal (albeit annoying) behaviour due to the action of the rear trailing arms.

When the rear suspension moves the length of the wheel base varies due to the geometry of the trailing...

The van drives perfect but every 5 or 10 miles the engine cuts out and has to be restarted. anti pollution is displayed on dash and it drives fine for another while. Have I just been unlucky or is this the norm? When I bought my 406 the CD player in the radio didn't work, I bought a secondhand replacement and that didn't either, well only briefly, the one in my latest C5 doesn't either, is this something common to Peugeot/Citroen radios? I have tried cleaning the laser with no effect.

It doesn't make any difference which order you do it in with regards to remote key's but IIRC if you have a non remote key that's done last.

Following my problem with the remote on Saturday, fixed it yesterday by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes then doing the key in the ignition routine - don't know if that was necessary, but anyway it is all working again.

i can't seam to find the correct antifreeze (coolant) liquid for my car. And also cooling system capacity.

I have Xantia V6 3.0 2000 - engine is ESJ9 i think.

A bit of a n00b question:
Most of car engines turn clockwise looking at the front of the engine as far as I know, of some exceptions (hondas etc) - as for DS/ID and 15's, where is the front of the engine, given that gearbox is located in front of the engine - the clutch end or the bulkhead end?

How can this be done, i've been told that removing the fuse or switch in the fuse box for 15 mins lets the system reboot??? so knowing how helpful this forum is I thought I would ask yourselves first :) many thanks :mrgreen: :^o

Other way is to move the Shunt (big -usually green with SH on it - looks like a fuse) in the fuse box. It has two positions. move it to second position for 15 minutes but either open window and reach through or sit in silence in the car for 15 minutes. (mechanic's advice was don't load battery during switch over -i.e....

Has anyone towed much with a C5 ? i have a caravan and part of the reason for buying the car was for towing but i am disapponted in the cars general performance before i put a caravan on it and i wonder what it will be like to tow with ? My old xantia was great but needed too much work so i bought the C5, i think the gearing is terrible but maybe...

I fitted it in an attempt to improve the fuel consumption which it didn't,

The one I fitted was exactly the same. No difference to fuel consumption but much more 'poke' which isn't what I'm after. But then I did a 600 mile journey pulling my caravan and I found it unnecessary to change gear as much and fuel figures went up from 28mpg to 34mpg....

As you say brake lines need to be flushed too. I'm not sure that I would bother with anti-sink valves unless they are malfunctioning, as they're basically an on/off valve, unlike height correctors.

First sorry for my bad English!

I've replaced non-original radio with non-original radio. Before i replaced, car working great, after replacing my C3 wont't start any more and central lock don't work.

Battery is OK.
