saxo / 106 handbrake adjuster nut size??

Post by Timmo »

Evening all,
Did a quick oil, filter and plugs change on one of the mums cars today, need to fo handbrake adjustment as is 75 degree angle at the mo! ;-) have had a nose on the net but couldnt see what size it was,
Guessing it'll be something like a 13mm or 15mm??
Need to pop up the road and and adjust it, so don't really want to lug a Load of tools up! ;-)
Ta muchly in advance,

Timmo.

TBH it's unlikely to be the cables.... modern ones barely stretch, once they are set that's it - till they break... Much more likely that the adjusters have fallen apart inside the drums, which is a rather more involved job!

if it has the Bendix set up you will probably find the stainless tiny steel pawl missing,

there are to options in that case,
pay the dealer £60 ish quid for the adjuster kit, ( not available from the factors on its own )

or purchase the complete rear brake overhaul kit from GSF, this contains the shoes, cylinders and adjusters ready assembled, and are probably not much more than the dealer is asking for just the adjuster kit

Well she only paid 250 for the car last year, so I don't think its going to be a repair at any cost job,
The previous owners 'looked after it' apparently, not so sure, had peugeot plugs in it that the electrodes had Worn Right down on! The oil was Sludgy, Breather pipes had the typical french petrol short journey mayp All through them, and at some point, the sump has taken a smack as is Badly misshapen! - oit had been removed and checked as you could see Much White instant gasket sealant around it!
But, it doesnt use any water, doesnt use any oil, and drives nicely, so there is some merit to it being 'looked after'! ;-) did forget that the pedals all share a 5mm space though! The complete opposite to the floaty barge! :-D
