Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Just charged the battery & started the XM 1st time in Months, it's running well, but no dipped beam headlamps!

sooooooo...the X7 is in next Tuesday for a few 'small' bits and pieces :roll:

Just had my specialist on the phone. The MOT only (I say only!) failed on CO emissions much to high.
What are the usual problem areas that I should look at to get this passed. I really don't want to have to change the CAT, even if I can find one for a V6 24v.

Have you had it on Lexia/ELIT diagnostics and checked the Oxygen (Lambda) sensor is working properly?

I've had an XM V6 and an Xantia V6 that had quite an appetite for them. Be aware that if it has a cheap eBay generic one fitted they often, in my experience, have a short life...

Also, if you have a replacement cat fitted that is much smaller...

As the title , i have a small coolant leak around the plastic thermostat /switch housing on the end of the cylinder head . Leaking from both the joint to the head an between the 2 halves that bolt together (note not leaking from the top of the stat housing top)

Surgery completed on Saturday and so far the results are positive. My main cooling fans were running all the time from start up no matter what I did so took the bull by the horns and set up a secondary thermo-switch to control their earth connection to switch them on only at the right temp eg 90/95 degree+ Not ideal but they were driving me nuts,...

Does anyone know where the cable entry grommets are so I can pass wires from inside the cabin into the engine bay (or the other way) on a C5 X7? I have had a quick look and I could not see any and I do not really want to cut a new hole.
I could try looking again but I am trying not to remove unnecessary plastic, so I thought I would ask first....

The two wires, one with a connector on the end, about 6mm (1/4 ) and the other 2.2mm (3/32 ) diameter. If there are those spare wires they would not be any good to me. I think I have found a being large grommet high up on the left hand side of the bulk head, when looking under the wheel arch. This may be my way...

This is the number starting with e* that should be on the V5 under the K category.

So been to the garage today and the Xantia needs new offside trailing arm bearings. The mechanic did not charge me for the advice but he said get a new car. To be honest I don't have the funds nor the inclination to buy a new(er) car and I am way too in love with driving around an 18 year old car that can smoothly carry a tonne in the back and...

Even if it is not seized it is worth replacing the water pump. According to what I have read here (and elsewhere) the pump almost invariably starts to leak if it is disturbed in any way (such as when the belt gets changed). I have not had the pleasure of changing a timing belt yet.

Interesting, as I say I don't remember seeing one, I do remember seeing a wood estate car version of the Devon. The van we had was a '55, should have been a Somerset but still had the Devon shape front wings and grill but it was metal radiator with chrome strips on it unlike the rusty chrome one used on the Devon car.

Where is the clutch master cylinder on the Dispatch Mark 1?

Hi Richard, yes the Clutch Master Cylinder uses the same fluid from the brake reservoir. You can see the pipe (part 9 on the diagram) from the reservoir to the clutch master cylinder and then onto the clutch slave cylinder via clutch control pipe (11). You can bleed the slave cylinder from the nipple (I think this is near the front of the gearbox).

What a nightmare! Squeak came back with a vengeance and with the floods we've had here in Cumbria I didn't get chance to change the discs and pads, I put it into the garage who did them today, turns out the rear drivers calliper (which is where the squeak was) was completely knackered hence only half the disc being worn. Also quite a large buildup...

Hello. This is my first post for a while - after a couple of years in dull but very reliable Xsara Picassos, I bought a 2.2 C5 Tourer in February. I love it and over the last 20k miles, it's been great on the whole (if a little thirsty) but started to behave a bit oddly earlier this week.

Sad news on the likely scrapping of the Hydropneumatic / Hydractive suspension systems by PSA CEO Carlos Tavares, currently now only in production on the upper C5 range.

Another ‘unique’ citroen feature and feat of engineering design down the pan, lost to economics and cost saving. Apparently only 10,000 Hydropneumatic C5s were sold in 2014.

Bought a pair of Sachs shocks off Eurocarparts for my 2CV. They look fine except for a plastic tag with KYB in the corner! Searched online and couldn't find a clue how Sachs is linked to KYB...I'm worried if these are fake parts...Does anyone have an idea?

Hi all the tacho on my early mk1 sinker TD is inoperable - never a flicker from the needle. I know it's a common failure on the series one as my previous mk1 TD Charlie Brown had the same issue. Hi, I'm scrapping my '07 estate (sniff) and the rear discs have effectively done zero miles since replacement. Can someone tell me if these discs are the same as on a '59 saloon??

When I cleaned/decreased the Pistons from my 2.1 the ink printed on the big end washed off!
I know that each piston is with it's original conrod.
I know that each big end cap is still with it's original conrod.
But, I have no clue as to which position each of my piston/conrods came from. I can't really see a problem as they all measured pretty...

What car are we talking about here? (can't see any mention in the OP or OP footer?)

A common or garden modern engine won't have faffed about with matching piston/rod weights, they'll all just be within a certain spec. The only reason for a piston being in a specific bore, will be bore/piston diameter, IMO.

All being well I'm picking up my new car next week, a C6. This means that as much as I would like to keep them both I have to get rid of one of my Xantia HDI exclusive estates. I work as a painter/decorator carpenter and one of the cars has to do as a van/work car.
The silver one I bought at around 140,000 miles and have spared no expense getting...

Ok so mine is a pug 107, but apart from headlights they are identical! It's about the clutch. I know these have a reputation for poor clutches, and the clutch on mine seems ok after 54000 miles. But, the clutch pedal is higher than the brake pedal, by quite a bit. I haven't played with the adjustment yet, as apart from this there seems no...

Any ideas? It had the injectors cleaned at Citroen main dealer one week ago, and smoke a bit less, but i still think its to much. It started when the weather did go from 20 degree C to 8-10 degree C. Also nr 1 injector was leaking at that time nr 2 did a little, but after i tightent them they dont leak anymore. I did tighten them...

Help! First off the tensioner was wrong, no lug at the end for the spring to push on. Now the other pulley has quite a chunk of metal less than the original. The new one is the one at the top of the pic. The holes are in the right place and I don't think the extra metal does anything?!? It's a continental kit. The fella kept saying the tensioner...

Thanks again. Went to Citroen to pick up a crankshaft bolt (not there yet predictably) so asked there. They said it was fine. Still would prefer it to be the same as the old one but never mind, sure I'll forget it once it's on.

Xud 9 block bored to make a xud11 - block of unknown/untested origin.
Head from my pervious trusty bx steed. I did unwittingly run this head for about 5 minutes without coolant!!
Warp check on head showed to be in tolerance - just.
New mls 2.1 gasket and new bolts torqued to Cit spec for 1.9td which is a bit tighter than 1.7 td.

My lights have stopped working :( . I have looked to see what activates these but can't find anything. Can anyone shed any light :) on where to find the button/sensor. Both stopped at the same time so pretty sure it's not the bulbs.

I am looking for new tyres for the C5 estate and liked the look of the Goodyear Efficient Grip cos the ratings for rolling resistance and wet braking were both A. The problem is the load rating because it's heavy. Some sites suggest 93 and some 97. Can anyone give me a definitive answer as to which is correct. By the way, the 93/ 97 rated tyres...

I've replaced the belt end crankshaft seal on the 1.9 TD Xantia while doing the cambelt as it was weeping slightly. When I ran up the car before putting it all the covers and bits on I noticed its still leaking and worse than before!

Removed the crankshaft sprocket and its leaking from the inside section of the seal all the way around. Must admit...

For the seal try the bearing companies, see if you can find a seal half the thickness and fit two so that they're running on different places on the shaft.

Hi guys i have a c5 2.0 hdi mark1 saloon diesel non automatic. Recently I have noticed when I go around corners that if the car is under acceleration i get a squeal from the front. It doesn't happen in a straight line, and also if the car is free wheeling it doesnt happen when turning. Any ideas what might be going wrong?

Hi guys thanks for the replies, and sorry it has taken me so long to reply ! The problem was the drive shafts giving up the ghost. Anyway, I have resolved the problem as I have got rid of the C5 and bought myself a Xsara mark 2, 2 litre HDI, 110BHP. Great car.
The C5 was getting a bit long in the tooth, it had done 195000 miles and had an engine...

Hello guys,

I have found water dripping, right in between the seats ,just behind the gear selector lever and .
I figured out the water is coming from the aerial in the roof.
What is the best way to approach this little leak and fix this?
I can only assume removing the aerial and reinsulating it properly?

Is there a how to remove the aerial? I do...

Given that it's not flammable? I have 2 small leaks, one on the pump and one on the tank breather pipe (NFA). Both will be fixed but at the mo I am changing the water pump (started today have to order new one in shop tomorrow) and MOT (well the Spanish version) due Wednesday. Not the best timing as you might imagine!

Got an irritating knock going over bumps in the Xantia now. sounds exactly like droplinks but they were replaced earlier in the year. getting under the wheel arch and wobbling stuff around doesn't bring much joy, there seems to be a smidge of play in the rear wishbone bush but no knocking noise when agitated, and the droplinks don't knock if i...

Hello, had a bad powersteering leak on my c5 a while back and chucked in any old oilly stuff untill I could get it fixed, well now the rear end is pretty stiff so im guna grab some lds and replace the fluid.
Are there bleed nipples on the back end ? Where are they ? And how much lds does the reservoir and pipes hold ? Thanks a bunch !

Best get rear wheels off the ground by jacking at sills. Support the jack at other points with solid blocks or axle stands, then let that pressure nipple loose on rear block.

Xsara 2004 2.0HDi. 110bhp's.
School run Friday morning, graunched into 2nd from 3rd then stuck in 3rd. Pulled onto the verge (must have gotten out of gear somehow as I did) but couldn't select any gear with engine running, clutch gone pedal gone loose. So not really sure if that's a hydraulic clutch mech or a thrust bearing prob. Anyway no clutch...

That's just an average, our work S60 isn't going to make 115kk at 7years old. It would've gone on a long time eating up motorways but it just can't handle the lanes and backroads up here....
