I doubt the piece of plastic holding the cable to the floor will cause an issue with the air bag light, but an intermittent loose connection in the plug and socket almost certainly will. Check for a good electrical connection within. Look...

You might find the LEFT hand one is the 7 way connector, Ive no idea what the pin/wires do without the proper drawing.

The wiring details supplied differ from the car, and the haynes book is also different.
according to the book it should have a 7 way connector, but I don't it's 5 way for the rear righthand lighting.

it is recomended that these injectors are replaced as a set but i dont know if you have priced them yet but it would mean lots of £££,its also recomended that the pipes are replaced if they are removed (i wouldnt bother personally).

205 seats are quite comfy, especially if you get the sports trim - surely these will be much much cheaper at the scrappy than 206 seats?

It could be a dodgy wire, it is French after all.
Could be you have water in the fuel system, Have you changed the fuel filter, Drained the water out the filter?
Notice any white smoke in the exhaust & lack of power? If yes thats the water burning off.

Are you sure the ball & sockets are ok?
You will be amazed how much better the gear change is when they are replaced.
Just had mine done on my 405 & it changes gear like a different car!
Take the VIN number to a Peugeot dealer to get the right link rods if you change them, there are lots of different combinations.

When i put my car into reverse (1996 306 Dturbo) the reverse light doesn't always come on (if you wiggle or adjust the gearstick it may come on). theres more to it than bolting the turbo on, firstly you need to lower the compression ratio, you will also need an uprated head gasket. There is also a fuel issue needs to be looked at as you need a way to give additional fuel to match the extra air. Whatever you do, GET THE FAN WORKING!
Overheated XU9J2 = WARPED HEAD very easily!
Ones a level switch & the others your fan temp switch.
Its the one in the left hand side, half way up you want, there should only be 2 wires in there, short this out & fan should run with ignition switched on.

Ok, 405 1.9 Injection , runs really well except at high speed .. go over about 75 and it heats up and the big STOP light comes on. Rad is full of water and the stat is fine (rad gets nice and hot as do the pipes). Checked the cooling fan and its doing nothing. Fuses all ok... Haynes manual says to check the fan you need to short out the sensor on...

A dump valve is totally pointless on a diesel as there's no throttle (apart from making a noise). The exhaust won't make much difference as there's a turbo in the way of the exhaust gasses which acts as a silencer and a restriction. An induction kit won't help either; a clean, fresh standard air filter makes much more difference.

Hi
Likely a dirty electrical connection, you can clean these with some switch cleaner or wd40.
Also clean the connectors under the seats, the orange 2 pin ones.
Make sure you have the radio code, shut the alarm down if fitted then disconnect the battery FIRST! & wait 10 minutes before disconnecting any of the SRS connectors.

Yes, I find the same thing - also sometimes the clutch pedal seems to jump up .
I mentioned this on the service, and they said they'd take a look - so far so good - problem seems to disappeared.
No ideas what the problem is....

i dont know if this is a common problem but the clutch on my xsi is rather stiff when the car has been driven for a while or stuck in traffic (i presume this is down to the fact that the clutch cable passes close to somewhere hot??), and it seems to creek a fair amount too!

Any of the diesel 406's make good tow vehicles. The 1.9TD has a kerb weight of 1389Kgs and the 2.1TD has 1202Kgs. Estate versions are around 50Kgs more. If you stay within the advised weight ratio of 85%, that means that with the 1.9 you could tow a fully loaded weight of 1180Kgs, and with the 2.1, a weight of 1202Kgs. My 2.1 Xantia tows a 1220Kgs...

No,not normally. Cambelt change generally means just that - the cambelt only. Quite alot of work to change the tensioner too but if yours is on the way out don't mess about, get it changed. Ask him to check the waterpump and idler pulley while he's in there too.

Try putting a direct 12v feed to the motor and see ifit moves. The window mechanism has a load sensor in it and when there is too much pressure required for movement a sloenoid clicks and cuts power to the motor. Try pushing down on the window whilst the button is pressed, it may just be jammed. If that doesnt work or a direct 12v feed then its...

Engine sounds fine but when quite rapid acceleration is required, usually most noticable in 2nd gear, theres knocking only on acceleration.
Local garage THINKS it may be driveshaft and advised packing N/S shaft rubber with grease. However when clip was removed it was fully packed.

This sounds like you have a sludged up emissions vent system and the seperator valve is clogged up. Remove the vent pipe from the Cam cover and the associated diagram valve and remove and clean all the pipes with white spirit. Remove the vacuum pipe and make sure it is clean. You will nedd to shake the valve a lot to get all the sludge out....

you can slide the torsion bars out and grease them but highly unlikely its them that are creaking. Its more likely the antiroll bar or trailing arm bearings. If its the bearings you may find it easier and cheaper to get a complete beam from a scrappy. Are you sure its not just something simple such as shocks on their way out?

does the bang come from the speakers, the stereo, or from inside the dash etc???
Most likely cause I wuld of thought is a bad earth somewhere but would of thought it would only happens once then the stereo would be knackered.

overheating / pressure build

Could be the head gasket, sounds likely, or could be a porous head. This happened on my 205td. It depends where the leak is as to what symptoms are observed.

Hi my 306 td keeps overheating and spilling its coolant via the overflow. I have changed the thermo and checked all hoses for splits etc. I have also noticed however if I start the car from cold with the rad cap off the level rises quite sharply until it overflows. my mpg seems low any pointers

Have the injectors been replaced recently? Does it smoke at all?
If not, it might be worth sticking in a set of reconditioned injectors.
You could also get the injection pump timing checked.

just been working out my mpg to see what im getting and it seems low.
works out to 31.46 mpg for the last 1400 ish miles
was using :
so i know i cant have messed up the calcs
car is a 405 td m reg, 185000 ish miles recent oil change (with in last 1000 miles). + airfilters
Any ideas if this seems ok or if there is somethings i need to look at??...

306 immobiliser

Hi!
I am aware that there are two different forms of immobiliser.
One is quite easy to spot as it uses a keypad to disable it.
The second uses a chip inside the key. When the key is placed in the ignition and turned, a coil around the barrel energises, sending a pulse to the chip in the key. If the chip is recognised, the engine starts!

Was wondering how do I know if its got the immobiliser fitted. I know it doesn't have the alarm, as theres no switch/light on the side of the steering column.

When I play loud thrash metal for any decent period of time on my car stereo, the volume automatically goes quiet and the word OVERLOAD appears on the stereo screen.
Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a way round it bar listening to music more quietly, which I don't want to do?

I have a 4 door mk1 306 sedan and some little toerag decided to break my NS rear quarterlight window yesterday. After finding out that Autoglass have a 2 day waiting list and want to charge over £70 I have decided to fit it myself. I can find a quarterlight easily through online autobreakers but am not sure whether the sedan rear doors take...

Is it the breather at the base of the filler neck round the back?
I changed mine due to a split, actually slipped on quite easy witha bit of fresh oil smeared round it. As for rocker/cam cover, I just done mine by hand ignoring all torque wrench settings, just took it to the point it felt tight as possible without breaking.

With a week off work in front of me and some nice sun pouring through the windows this morning, I decided that I'd tackle the bloomin' oil leak on my 306 at last. I popped to Halfords and picked up a bottle of Gunk with the intention of cleaning the engine so I could determine exactly the source of the leak.

Juddering brakes

I had something similar many years ago on a Reliant 3 wheeler. It was a bent wheel.

But this has stumped me, judder is coming from the drivers side rear wheel, even on rollers you can see prssure goes up and down like a yoyo. Thats handbrake or brake pedal so not the compensators.
So far it has had, new shoes, new handbrake cable, new cylinder, new brake line, 6 different drums 2 of which were brand new.
I'm seriously running out...

Have you checked the oil temp sender sensor - Never looked on a 405, but on a 309 / 205 it was near the top of the block.

The temp sender is usually in the drivers door mirror on UK cars. Most likely that is either faulty or a bad connection.

The rad being cold all the time seems strange especially with the heater not working and the temp being OK. Without either the rad or the heater to cool it I would expect overheating to occur fairly quickly. Check the top hose into the radiator gets warm.

1 i have not hot air through the heater/carpets dry etc
2 cars seems to hold temp ok
3 no gassing up or oil/water mix problems
4 both fans kick in fine

The 306 ony had the HDi 90.
Diferences include (but not limited to!) ECU, injectors, 110 has an intercooler.
If looking at a 306, check the crankshaft pulley has been changed for the redesigned version, some early high pressure pumps played up and some had clutch problems. Otherwise not much, just normal used car checks really.

if they are really stuck fast spray some release oil on the pistons leave it for a while come back do it again if you use a tire lever or good size scewdriver try to force the old pad back if its sticking out like the photo use abit of wood as a drift and hit it with a hammer.as the piston goes back the level of fluid in the resevoir can rise so...

Help me!! Just trying to replace the brake pads on my 405 and cant get the new ones on cos the piston is stuck and wont move back!! Girling calipers.
I thought it might be a stuck caliper so tried the other side but both just wont move back. As my pads are worn down to the mountings I need to move the piston back a large amount and just dont see...

phase 3 306 headlights

hey hey, got a 306 r reg dturbo with those single beam h4 headlight housings. Im goin to upgrade to the clear twin beam (h7) housings, they fit straigt in. But, does anyone know what type of connector it takes on the back of the housing? Is it the 3 pin (h4 type) or two separate harnesses (each h7 bulb), hence 2 two pin connectors?

The bottom ends of these engines are almost bomb proof so it's very rare to hear of one with bottom end problems.
Cambelts are their archilles heal so be sure that is replaced regardless of what else you find.
Personally, I wouldn't be going buying any parts until you've had a good close look at it; it could have tossed a bearing but you'd have to...
