I have a 1.9 td 406 which was running fine until recently
I have just had a new exhaust section and a oil filter change. Since then (or so it appears) the car wouldn't go past 300rpm in third and would eventually stall with the engine warning light on.
I mentioned this to the dealer who said if I had ran the tank down low it may be dirt in the fuel
I then at their suggestion changed the fuel filter.
Now the car won't start easily and need turning over a lot.
Also on the last journey she would do about 200 yeards before running out of puff and stalling, either that or I found I could quickly pull over, let it tick over and then do another 200 yards or so.
Luckily I made it home and she is sat on the drive now
Any suggestions as to what this might be before I take it to a garage and they start changing bits it doesn't need!!!
Help
Cheers

Sounds to me like an air leak ( a big one at that ) INTO the fuel system. Check all the joints are sound, expecially around the fuel filter ( as it seems to have got WORSE since changed ).
Next time it stops, use the priming bulb to prime the fuel system. It should then start fairly easily. If this is the case, 95% certain to be an air leak.

Just tried priming
But she still needed about four turns of the key to kick over
Once started it runs fine ticking over and will rev
Just worried about taking it on the road again!
Is there anywhere/or way I can try to bleed any air out of the system?
I realise there is a bleed on the filter housing
As it must be something fairly simply to have just happened like it has.
I only got back from two weeks away last weekend and she fired up immediately after standing all two weeks and has never ever not started on the forst turn. The day before this started I had driven over 200 miles without missing a beat
Any ideas welcome, I need her ruuning properly for Wednesday!

Just been out and she's running fine again
Came home left it for 30 mins thenn went out and she started OK
I'll give her a god run out tonight and see
Looks as though priming the system worked
Just hoping there are no leaks
I have tracked back what I did prior to the problme ocurring
New exhaust section new oil & filter
But I remember I had to go back to the exhaust place and went very low on fuel ( I don't normally run to the warning light)
Perhaps this was how the air got into the system??
Here's hoping
Thanks for the help and suggestion MBunting!!
