I've replaced the vibrating 405 with a nice red 2.0 litre petrol turbo 406 Executive, for a bargain price.

It has 84,000 miles on it though, and one or two niggles.

The first one is that I can't tune in the RF key plip. I follow the instructions in the owners manual, but the car just doesn't seem to pick up the plip. The plip has new batteries...

Mainly for Nick, but also for anybody else who needs to know.

The heater in a late model 405 lives above the passenger footwell, and is held in with three philips screws. The usual plug/socket combo connects it to the loom.

With the three screws out the heater will drop straight out.

The motor can be extracted from the housing but needs a bit...

This might sound like a daft question, asking for someone else, but can anyone tell me the pressure rating for the radiator cap on a 405 SRi 1994 model (series 2)
I have my ideas but my friend called into a radiator specialist who told him something entirely different, so I'm trying to settle an argument.

Car is a Peugeot 306 1.6 with the 8v TU series engine.

I've recently noticed a lot of oil in the engine bay, and some on the drive! Seems to be coming from right at the top on the left by the cambelt cover(see photos) Any ideas? Praying it isn't the head gasket as it's already been done (about a year and 10,000 miles ago). :?

Edit:...

Hi

I've just had my Air con regassed, well tried to anyway. Under the leak test it showed a hole in the Rad.

Therefore could someone please tell me how bigger job it is to replace and roughly how much this should cost?

I take it there are no ways of plugging the hole, like you would with a normal water rad?

thanks

Hey guys, my flatmate has an N reg 106, which his PLIP has fallen to bits. We are looking at one on ebay, are they easily reprogrammed (like the 306 ones?) His plip looks like this :

Cheers

I've got the same thing on my 2001 406 2.0 16v. (Cable gearchange, not rods) Again, it started just after a new clutch. When I bought the car the clutch went within a few weeks and the place I bought it from had a local garage replace it. They told me it was a 'Sachs' clutch, as if I'd be impressed. (I've been a Valeo fan for a number of years) As...

Hello all. Glad to see the forum has survived the GSF departure - definitely a cash saving bonus for us all. This place has saved me a few quid over the last few years.

Anyway, onto the problem.

I have a 1995 Pug 405 1.9 td with 196,000 miles on the clock.

About a month ago completely out of the blue it developed a nasty vibration (not there...

Its the bottom pully on the Alternator belt so after a week of looking ive found a new pully but i can not find a woodruff key that helps hold it on ive looked all over the net but no luck and tryed some shops and scrapperyards...

Hi Folks,

I was hoping some of you guys could shed some light on this one for me. On the last two 306's I've had (95 XND and 99 HDi) the passenger side wind screen washer seems to eventually stop working. (I am currently driving the 99 HDi)

I have tried clearing the spray holes with a small pin but to no avail. When I try spraying the washers,...

HI

i've just purchased a 2001 406 hdi 110 from a mate. the car has full main dealer history and has done 125k.

My GTi had an MOT advisory that one CV boot was perished and should be replaced. I got one from the former sponsors of this forum but due many reasons I had my local garage fit it. The mechanic said the boot was poor quality (very hard) and he had a devil of a job to cone it on; the only way as the joints won't split. He told me it would not stay...

i have a 306 srdt 1.9 (1.9 turbo diesel) sedan. I turn the key and there are no ignition lights
come on, and further turning it doesn't make it crank over or anything. Can't even hear a click
on the starter motor solenoid. The battery is fine, as we tested it with a multimeter and
tried a different battery. no in car fueses have blown neither the...

I've noticed over the last month that the warning led on the rear fog lamp switch started glowing.

If I pressed it in and out a few times it would go out.

Now it is on permanent whenever the lights are on but the rear fogs are out.

Checking it yesterday with the sidelights on. If I pressed the rear fog switch the dip beam came on!

Obviously a...

Hello everybody,
When my car is about to move from stationary position and when power is required, the whole car vibrates a lot.

I dont have this vibration when the car has already started moving. It is just before moving on the first gear.

Sometimes the car doesn't move when the vibration is so big...

Can you help?

Hi All

This might seem like a stupid question but....

Can someone tell me how to remove the ciggarette lighter from the centre console on a 406?

Mine has not worked for ages and I would like to use it to charge my phone.

Surely the console does not have to come out does it?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi
The alarm beeping once when you are locking is a clue.
It sounds like the switch on one of the door latches or its wire between the door & the A post is faulty, The car thinks the door isnt shut correctly & unlocks the doors again.
The early 306s DID suffer from wiring problems between the doors & A posts, But I would have thought Peugeot would...

Hi, My rear heated screen no longer seems to work.
When you press the button the brighter light appears but fails to stay. You can hear the initial click of the relay.
I take it the big orange one is the rear heater relay?
What could it be, is there a connecter block somewhere that could cause the problem?
Any help would be great? :)

Hi, how ru doing.
1. My VIN is VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff], which type is my engine? XU10 or EW10?
2. My A/T was in problem of pressure regulation, so I changed two new
solenoid valves(main pressure regulation valve & converter pressure
valve), part code is 2574.16, but old valve code is 2574.10. I've heard
that my ECU is not...

I have recently purchased a W reg 2000 306 Hdi DTurbo and is runs very well, strong torque throughout the rev range, have not had chance test economy yet but there is a ticking/flapping kind of noise when the engine is under load. I have checked out the other posts which mention the crankshaft pulley disintegration problem and also the leaky...

my original spart plug is Eyquem RFN58LZ(101AB), what specific type of Bosch can I use?
many thanks.

Have you got underneath and checked it not rattling against the heatshield? If its not then might be an idea to remove the centre section and give it a shake, see if anything comes out. Yes it can fail MOT.

Hi
I use 406 ea9 , my car is 3 years old and about 50000 km. Airbag fault on MFD and airbag light on dsahboard show for 2 month.
I took my car to 2 Peugeot dealers. The first one said that problem is com2000. The second one said that problem is seat belt pretension (not plug under seat, the set of seat belt pretension) on the passenger side. Diag...

Bush has gone - been told replacing the wishbone is the best way to go.

GSF used to stock them, but they've gone from the site.

Local garrage says that my car was a changeover year ( 1995 reg GTX Est 2.0 Auto ), and there are two different wishbones.

I know these spent some time at Swinderby airfield, so if it helps, it DOESNT have ABS ( which...

Neighbour has an N reg, 306 HDI which is difficult to start, but once started runs normally. A garage has checked the glow plugs battery etc (not sure what the etc is exactly) and can find nothing wrong. Suggests the pump and estimates £600 fitted. Question is can it run normally if the pump is faulty?

Hi Guy's

I was hoping someone can give me a bit of advice in this one...

I went to start my 306 the other week to let it heat as it was a cold and frosty morning. The car started as usual with no problems, but after about 10-15 seconds it all of a sudden stopped dead, as it the ignition had just been switched off. The problem is that the car...

I've got an 1800cc petrol 405 (1996) and noticed that oil was accumulating/spraying/being blown over the ignition coil etc. on the right hand side of the engine. Initially I suspected the valve cover gasket, however I've now isolated the source to the dipstick tube (by tying a rag over the dipstick and tube end). My next step is to drop the sump...

OK. I have had one corner of the front suspension rebuilt. I am getting the 2nd corner rebuilt next week.

I knew the pads needed doing, but I have been advised to get the discs replaced as well.

1) Is there anything I need to know that makes this job interesting on the 605? I have seen a fitting kit available, and a special impact socket! I was...

help!!
ive been watching mesages and does anyone know if my tacho fault could be the same as the one 306 tacho if so where is the sensor located?

How do I remove the facia panel covering the 3 heater controls. A cable has unclipped itself on the vent control and the heat control is not moving the heat control cable.

So I want to remove the heater control assembly, but can't remove the black panel to gain access. :?

Phase 2 306td 1996.

thanks

Two questions really
1st one and the easiest i hope. What size fuel line does a 405 1.9td have? 8mm or 10mm?

2) Ive looked but cant find it. What is the test to find out which glow plugs have gone using a multi meter without taking any of the glow plug out of the car cos its too cold to fiddle about?

edit: what size are the coolant hoses too...

After a blow out last night on the rear left, I thought I was doing well changing it in the dark and snow. :D However this morning, I come to the car and the front left seems to have collapsed! Which is VERY worrying as it was all fine when I came home last night. :?

There is no bounce in it! But it does handle ok still (at very low crawling to...

I fancy a multichanger in my 99 406 HDi.

Which one will be compatible with the inbuilt radio/cd player in my car?

If you have any model numbers, and how to fit such a device, then I'll be most grateful.

Thats right free... Take away next weekend from N.London. Fully working aircon. No tears etc in seats. Red. Small dent in front wing. new discs and pads. new radiator etc. Electric windows.
Starts and runs. No tax. No MOT.
bring your own Battery!

Hey guys, there is a pipe snapped off in the footwell of the passanger side of my 306. Its connected to a copper fitting coming (looks like ) from the wing into the car? The plastic bit that the pipe connects into is snapped off...

Any ideas? Its nomally covered by the plastic bit that covers the wires under the glove box etc.

Typical isn't it. It gets to winter, and the heater matrix in the 405 is blocked.

As far as I was aware, all 405's use the same type/style/shape of heater matrix. But looking at the GSF site, they show 405 heater matrix and 405 heater matrix BEHR type .

Now. Is this two different non-interchangeable units, or is it just a cheapie one, and a...

The headlamps on my 306 don't appear to give out much light on dip, although full beam seems fine, the glass area in front of the dipped lamps has a definite yellow tinge to it. Is it possible to remove the glass front and clean the headlamps out or do I need to replace them as a unit, if that's the case how easy (or not) is this.

Thanks for any...

A friend of mine has just got a 205 Diesel,D reg.12mths T & T for £100.Not the best looking car,but it has a good engine.Its ideal for work.
Anyway, the only thing that seems to be wrong is that the heater is not working. The blower works, all the controls seem to move fine,it just blows out cold air all the time.No hot air,or even warm.He says the...

I really am hoping someone can help me because the main dealers think I'm an idiot, and I know they are! I have a 2000 X reg 406 HDI. Fitted in the car is the Clarion tape deck, fixed to the 6CD changer, and the standard car kit for the nokia is tied in too.

The problem is this. Once in a while, more and more often, there will suddenly be a...

Hi all,
I've just bought a 2003 206 SW. I find the fact that the dipped beam goes out when the main headlights are switched on really annoying. Is rectifying this just a case of removing/bypassing a relay? And if so, which one?

Cheers, Charlie

Thanks to a very light work load I have a lot of time for random thoughts at the moment.

My most recent one is: If the block and basic mechanics of the 2.1 TD engine is the same as the 1.9, why does it not have the intercooler?!

My initial guess is that it has something to do with either the workings of the 12v head, or the limited space under...

Is there a mod kit for a single wiper solution for a 306 GTI6. Regards Peter

Ok, I admit it, I want to run the dreaded Veggie oil scam! But, I have done days and days of research and know my cav pump will blow up!

So what I want to know is can I swap for a bosch pump?

I think the answer is yes with a large but! So I woudl be grateful if someone could tell me why I will also need new injectors pipes etc etc? Doesn;t seem...

Apologies for posting this on fcf and auzziefrogs, i kinda need an answer pretty quick.

Today i lost my heaters in the car. No blowers, no hot / cold, no AC light, no recurulate light. Its a 306 XSi, with climate control. The little fan in the interior light holding also isnt spinning, like no power? I found a broken pipe under the passanger...

Evening all,
Has anyone ever seen a 406 GLX 2.0 petrol with its air box drilled? I remember when I had my 206 I drilled the box and seemed to get much better fuel economy - although it was all a bit more noisey.
Been thinking about doing my 406 but dont wanna bugger up the air box, I know where to drill the holes and everything but just need...

does anyone know if it is possible to swap the 406 V6 manual gearbox for a 2.5td manual gearbox?
i wish to improve the gearing on my car to gain a higher top speed.
would it be better to switch to the automatic gearbox?
which gearbox has the longest final drive?
and which is the easiest to swap?
i am in germany for the forseable future and...
