P306 TD 1999 Rear Screen heater

Post by grattsim »

Hi, My rear heated screen no longer seems to work.
When you press the button the brighter light appears but fails to stay. You can hear the initial click of the relay.
I take it the big orange one is the rear heater relay?
What could it be, is there a connecter block somewhere that could cause the problem?
Any help would be great? :)
Any ideas?

help...

Has anyone got any ideas? Its freezing and I'd like to be able to see out the rear window. I doubt I'm the only one that has suffered this problem.
Thanks

My old XSi did that, turned out to be the lines on the back windscreen were shot.

The heated rear window has some sort of timer that will turn it off after so long (about 15mins I think) or if the ignition is turned off.
Maybe this is part of the relay and could be faulty and causing it to turn off.

I'll try and change the relay and see what happens. It can be heard energising at the moment.

Is it only the big RED/ORANGE on for the rear heater?

Is there a connection in the wiring somewhere before the boot lid?

Thanks for the replies so far

On my 306 the heated rear window switch lights up orange when it's on.
Just had a thought, on one of my old cars the wires that run betwwen the cars shell and boot lid (in the rubber sleeve) broke resulting in the rear wash/wipe and heated window not working.
Apparently it's quite common on most cars as they start to age.

I've had sucess, after prising the old relay out and sorting the contacts out a new relay seems to have solved the problem.

One of the contacts on the old relay got hot and melted the cup it sits in.

Thanks for the previous suggestions.
