Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi everyone, I am new here and have a problem that I am trying to solve on my father's 807.

He hasn't been using it regularly, so the battery went flat. He has recharged it and it now runs fine, but there is a problem with the alarm/locking. It basically locks then unlocks immediately, the alarm goes off intermittently and the dashboard display...

Hi just picked up a 406 estate which has a Phillips factory fit radio cassette, looking in the handbook it appears this is a Phillips 4035 and that it will control a cd changer.

Please can someone tell me how to enter the radio code for an N reg 306 Diesel after changing the battery. When I switch on the radio, the display just shows 4 dashes , and pressing the number buttons on the radio has no effect at all (the numbers do not show up on the display as I press them). Thanks

It depends on the type of radio fitted.

From memory yours will probably be the Blaupunkt unit (although even on the early 306's there are at least two, base models are different)

After turning right, my indicators jump to the left and are otherwise erratic.

Am told I need a new stalk/unit and a mechanic friend has told me he can fit it, if I find the part myself.

I've finished my cylinder head overhaul, but hit 1 slight problem, I managed to loose an injector !!!, so i now only have 3 original ones.

digging through my toolbox i found 6 spares with the correct part number on, but my originals are coded Z and the spare one i have is coded Y, i know i need to recode this into the ecu so that i get the...

Hello the car is a 106 1.1 tu1 engine j reg on carb, in the mornings she just wont start and when been on a run as soon as you put the clutch down and let it idle it stalls, it is exactly like switching off the ignition there is no spluttering like it is running out of fuel, it definatly seems electrical

I am just about to reassemble my head after it came back from its skim, and i was about to lightly lap the valves in to check the seats were good, when i remembered you cant valve grind on some more modern engines nowdays and wondered if the HDI was one your not supposed to valve grind on ?

Thats correct too, the pistons do stick up, but the piston tops are a very odd shape with a very deep doghnut shaped combustion chamber in the centre, and valve shaped cutouts that the valves fit into when the piston comes up

Does anyone have any experience of chipping a D8 406 petrol non-turbo? My local Superchip agent reckons the mod can give an extra 10 hp & lb/ft but it's not really worth it in terms of noticing the difference.

Does not seem that expensive and am tempted as the car's fairly flat and it might give it that bit more.

There's not much you can do tuning wise with a modern N/A petrol engine. You need to start making physical modifications to get any real power increase.

10hp you could probably get by fitting a new air filter.

Backfeed to solenoid would (as I sort of put above) cause the battery light to stay on and the solenoid to stay open .

I'd initially suspect (as above) the ignition switch. Easy to unplug and confirm if that's the case though anyway.

Hi guys.

Whilst driving home from work Friday night the coolant light illuminated on the dash. Managed to get it home without overheating. Checked yesterday and it appeared that the header tank was low so filled it up to max mark, there didn't appear to be any leaks on my driveway and so i set off back to work. less than a mile into my journey...

well i couldn't find the leak so got RAC out and after stripping a few bits away he eventually found that the plastic housing which surrounds the thermostat had cracked.

Don't have the time to do job myself this week so its in the mates garage getting sorted, i'll keep my fingers crossed that it hasn't done any other damage to the engine.

Just got a producer from a bored policeman for no reversing lights!!!

I notice that the number plate lights alo dont come on, havnt checked the fogs.

Before I start tracing this I suspect there is a connector come apart somewhere and wandered if anyone has had a similar problem?

Also check that there are no wires broken where they pass between the car and the tailgate. They pass through the rubber bellows affair, and can break off unseen inside this due to the opening and closing of the tailgate.

The above advice is based on personal experience.......

No fuel getting to injection rail. Andy told me to listen for the pump at rear of vehicle. I can not hear it running. What is the the next thing to do please? I have checked all the fuses under the steering wheel compartment and check all push connections under the bonnet.
If I pour a little fuel into the induction pipe it runs OK for a second....

Yes typically you will hear a faint buzz for a couple of seconds at most while the fuel pump is primed (well, the fuel pipes and rail really)

I'd suggest the fuel pump relay then (I think its a double relay on these) , I am not sure of its location to be honest.

If your ECU is in the engine bay, it may actually be underneath that or next to it....

Hi there ,
Anytbody know if an 306 , 2000 model , would have the dreaded heater matrix , buried somewhere in the depths of the engine bay !
When my wife starts the car , the windscreen is clear , after a few minutes the screen mists over , with the heater on .

hi there, i have only just finnished the 406 and went for my first drive round the block, it drove very well until it started to rain and my wipers didnt work, i returned to my house (slowly) i did not have my multimeter so i went straight for the fuse, i took old one out and it looked fine but i replaced it anyway as i did wipers worked once and...

Has it been sat for a long time? Try spraying the linkages with some WD40 or Plus Gas, could be they've seized up. My 405 was sat for 3 months and did exactly the same, wipers worked sometimes :? In the end I put in a replacement motor and linkage from ebay, problem solved.

I'm doing my head gasket, and i've got to the point where i remove the head bolts, but i was expecting to use my torx drivers to remove them, but its the exact opposite that i need, a quick google search has shown i need a torx socket to undo them, but does anyone know what size i need ?

Car is a 1993 (Phase 2) 405 1.9TD estate, with the later-type ABS.

Last week, during torrential rain, I noticed the brake pedal seemed hard and the brakes rather grabby . The ABS warning light was not lit. When I got home, I switched off the car - but continued to hear a rapid ticking noise from the under the bonnet.

I managed to get hold of an ABS modulator from a scrapped car for £50, and after fitting this today (a fun job, I must say) the ABS is back to normal. So I suspect that a relay within the sealed electronics box had given up the ghost on my original one.

A decent brake pipe spanner is essential for getting the unions out of the modulator, though.

I had to bypass mine on my 205TD last year due to chasing air ingress around the system (it was also entering in the fuel primer too)

To cut a long story short, I bypassed the fuel heater and replaced the fuel filter / head with one of something else (I got it new from Ebay,...

if your 306 hatch back fails its MOT on rear seat belts not returning, it might not just be a replacement required,

as i discoverd two days ago on my freinds daughters R reg 306,

got it back to my workshop after it failed, striped out the N/S rear piller trim to find the seat belt real dangling in mid air, first thought on seeing the real...

I doubt it jim. It's just a crappy low spec small petrol engined phase 1 306. I had to remove the trim myself to see the rust just out of interest, while I was there swiping a wiper motor and linkages. You wouldn't have seen the rust either unless I poked it through.

apparently according to the news today 1/2/2010 there is an accelerator pedal fault with new 107's and a recall is in progress.

this has also affected Toyotas recently.

they were asking owners to contact there dealerships.

Hi Folks

I'm new here , and new to Peugeot ownership. I have just been screwed, having recently bought an 806 which turns out to have a couple of problems not least the head gasket has blown. Its a 1997, 2 litre petrol.

There is water in the oil, and bubbles coming up through the coolant. I don't think it has overheated though as the needle...

Hello,
I'm fitting a new belt but can't get it over all the pulleys and sprockets. I start at the crankshaft then up over the idler pulley then the fuel injector pump, then the camshaft then my wife holds the belt in position while I feed it over the water pump and finally try to ease it over the tensioner pulley.

It so nearly goes over the final...

Whilst spending a not inconsiderable amount of hours under my car fixing things, I noticed that the rubber block of my engine movement limiter has all but disintegrated.

When looking at the engine with the bonnet up, it seems to move quite a bit when I give it a bit of throttle, but I'm not sure if it moving enough to cause problems i.e. is it just a comfort thing, or could I mess something else up by just ignoring it?

I have a 1990 Peugeot 1.1 with the TU1 engine. The gearbox is really starting to whine. I've been looking around for a replacement gearbox from a 205 but there don't seem to be many around any longer.

I know the 106 and Citroen AX use the same engine. Does anybody know if the gearbox from either of these would fit as a direct...

Is it easy enough to remove interior door card to get at lock and linkage etc. while door is shut.

I'd change the cambelt as well, as it's already been stressed enought to jump a couple of teeth and now will not be at it's best.
The last thing you need is for it to snap after you've done all the work.

You don't need to remove the alternator ect to change the tentioner, have a reed of this.

It's the same for the 406 1.9td's.

The heater blower motor is not working on this vehicle with ign on getting battery voltage at red wire at blower motor with engine idling voltage at blower motor falls to
zero volts. This vehicle has A/C. Does anyone know of issues with this particular

My 405 has knackered wishbone bushes. I hear it's a nightmare to fit a new bush to the existing wishbone, and that ideally you need a press. Even then it's not easy.

I spoke to a garage who said it may well be more economical to buy new arms with the bushes prefitted rather than pay them to fit new bushes.

Any tips on fitting new bushes, or...

Hi,

The N/S (passenger) wing mirror was damaged whilst parked recently. The cap is broken, and the black underside. Unfortunately, I couldn't locate just the underside on it's own so I've got an official replacement wing mirror.

Anybody got any schematics/diagrams/pointers for replacing one of these please?

Been stood for some months. Was running OK. P Reg. 1.6 manual hatchback. No spark but turns over OK. STOP light and engine management light on.
Have checked all click together electrical connection and made sure they are dry including the one to the radiator as suggested in a search I did.
Does not even try to fire. Any help please?

the passenger window my car will go down but lost power for returning back to being closed ,im thinking relay has burned out had to remove the door trim and run power wire to close the window ,anyone know where the relay for the window is ? :?

The relay is common to both sides EW's.
A separate relay is fitted for rear EW's.

These relays are simply used as circuit breakers to power the EW's, such that only the weak control current for the relay coils have to flow through the ignition switch contact set.

Hi Guys,

I've just been out for a drive and whilst waiting for the demist to clear the windows I noticed the drivers side mirror steaming. On closer inspection the mirror was warm to the touch and there was an orange light on the electric control knob.

Is this heating automatically controlled? If not how do I control it?

The car is a 51 plate...

@spider, tried that first off as that was my intial thought, that I'd somehow managed to catch the button, but it seemed to have no effect.

Even though the light stayed on, the heating effect seems to disapear once the rear demist is off.

Can anyone tell me, Ive been asked about replacing a Pug 307 1.4 HDi Heater matrix.. Is this car ALSO A Dash out job??? If so how involved is it? Do you need to unstick the Scuttle trim on the bottom of the windscreen??

OK as people may have guessed I have been hunting for a new car.

After looking at a couple of different options ranging from repaired insurance write off to honda dogs, I have gone for a 51 plate 406 2.0HDi 90 Rapier Estate.

It has some bodywork problems, mostly scratches and a few dents, not really too fussed by them as mechincally it seems...

i have a 306 and when i went to start it today it was as if the gearstick was no longer connected to the gears or something. it is just loose so i cant put it in gear. it was fine last night, just wandering if anyone else has come across similar problems? cheers

Access is not bad :)

Maybe need to whip the battery (possibly airfilter depending on model) out so you can lean in a bit more.

I used to use a open ended end of a spanner to pop them off (to act as a fork ) , can't remember what size, I think 11mm is about right, but as its come off anyway simply twist / pull upwards to get the other end off....

The heater fan itself works and so do the speeds and can turn it off, but there is only cold temperature, it was left running for 2 hrs and ever ever so slightly went from stone cold. Any ideas ? I don't think the temp is stuck where it is as if we pit the air con on it's goes freezing cold like it should. So there us temperature change, just no warm heat. Could it still b the same things? Possible blockages?
