307 newbie!

Post by jsmith89 »

Being a Peugeot 307 newbie I have no idea what noises are normal or what is supposed to feel normal. It's a 57 plate 307 1.6 16v petrol S with FPSH and only 57k on the clock. I'm only just getting used to the characteristics of my 208.

2 things stand out with my 307. 1. When I'm cruising at 50-70mph I get a high pitched whistle... Christ knows where from... maybe wind whipping between the wipers? Maybe? Not a clue!

Secondly. At low speed when coming on and off the throttle, say crawling through traffic, I occasionally get a knocking noise from the front. I can't feel it through the car as such but I can hear it. Maybe cv joints or something........

Odd I know but I haven't a clue if this is normal or if it's a common issue. As I said I'm new too pugs in general so any help would be great.

Also if I'm being a total plum just tell me!

Mine doesn't make any whistling noise at that sort of speed - well not now I've replaced both front wheel bearings... Knocking noise could be any of the suspension joints - track rod ends could be favourite if it's been used for lots of short trips round town.

Yea my thoughts too but it only seems to make noise when applying small amounts of throttle then lifting off.

The common cause of knocking is Front strut top mountings. Knocks once usually when throttle opened. Knocks once when brakes applied. Continuous knocking at light throttle over rough ground but knocking may stop when accelerating or braking hard.

Might be worth some investigation then. I bought the car with a full comprehensive warranty so all that is covered.

I've also noticed that when I start it from cold the engine turns over quickly which is good but almost struggles to find its idle when it comes down from the first crank. Sometimes feels like it might stall. It never has mind you. Any thoughts?
