peugeot expert 2.0 hdi high pressure fuel pump

Post by iamgarth »

Hi
The high pressure fuel pump on my 2005 2.0 hdi expert is leaking, leading to cut out.I told the local garage who refused to work on it saying the fuel pump will need timing, i've since found out it won't.
Two questions, can it be removed without the cam belt being changed? and if i only replace the fuel pump with a "like for like" part will that work?
Any info much appreciated
Cheers

I had to change the pump on my C5 - although that wasn't the problem, but that's another story. To the first question, no the pump is not timed. To the second, I had to take my belt off and I can't see a way of avoiding it. You can get the pumps quite reasonably from ebay I think I paid about £60.00 for mine. While I was changing it I replaced the belt and the water pump as well.

I think Paul managed it - tie wrapped the belt to the pump sprocket and then slid the pump out. I think I would go for belt off / replacement however. Is the pump actually leaking out, or is is just that the diagnostics says 'leak' - because if so, it's unlikely to be the pump....

I seem to remember that, but having gone through the hassle of getting the cover off I thought it was worth changing the belt.

Officially the pipes should be changed if they are even just undone, they are "one use" however nearly everyone reuses them without too much issue. Given they are not cheap this is understandable.

Interestingly, looking at two other manufacturers (bearing in mind PSA "insist" they are replaced) , as far as I recall Ford "recommend" and Toyota usually if a component is changed only.

I've reused literally hundreds of these pipes & never had a single problem.

Yes. :)

I think I was just pointing out the different wording used by different manufacturers really, nothing more. :)

"Insist" / "Recommend" / "If mating parts are replaced" etc.
