206 timing belt

Post by matt4 »

It's time for one on my 206. Its clearly not been changed from new, it's cracking! [-X

I can't complain! My car had literally a new everything when I bought it. Apart from that!!
Does anyone know of the price a Peugeot dealership?
Anyone used Mr.Clutch? I been thinking about them. Had an exhaust fitted by them - http://www.mrclutch.com/cambelts/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My Mum has used these guys in the past on her Citroen Xsara.- http://www.citroenpeugeotspecialists.co ... vicing.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
They done a good job the times she used them, but pricey for a student on a part-time job!

Any suggestions? :)

Thanks,

Matt, what engine has your 206?

I have a guide on my website for a cambelt change on a 1.4 8V (TU) petrol engine.

Same engine! 1.4 8v.

Nice guide. I don't think I'll be doing it myself!! Too much to mess up, I only do very basic repairs to my car. Scared of anything else!! :)

naaaah go for it, these must be the easiest cam belts i have ever done, you dont even need to jack the O/S front wheel up, as it can very easily all be done from above, no big center crank pulley bolt to remove either, as that stays put you just take out the 10mm ( spanner size ) bolts around the main center bolt,

it really is a very easy job

I agree with all you say Malcolm... Even easier than the TCT engine and an ideal introduction to cambelt changes...

Excellent practice for the more complex ones...

Later 8v ones have a spring tensioner if I remember correctly too, so its even easier if the "twist" method does not inspire confidence, although once you have done a few you can relax about it...

I agree,that TU engine has to be the easiest cambelt change in the motor trade.Mind you if your a DIY with limited knowledge (no offense) ,one false move and you have bent valves??
The fact its a simple job a small Peugeot/Citroen indi` should only charge about 2hrs labour.?? and supply an O/E kit including a water pump.
