806 HDI Weird Temp Gauge Behavior

Post by Super Dragpack »

Hi all.

I am so sorry that my first post is a cry for "HELP". I hope I can be of use in the future, but your knowledge has brought me to this forum in a desperate call for help.

I have a 2002 806 HDI. It runs extremely well although a little slow to start sometimes - I have ordered a new starter which will hopefully fix that issue BUT a new issue appeared today which is of more concern.

Whilst starting it this afternoon (been using it all day), the temp gauge did a weird thing and it is doing it all the time now.

When I switch on the ignition (or start the engine), the temp gauge goes up a bit, to what I think is the correct temp (1/4 way), but then immediately sweeps to HOT, then to COLD, then to HOT, then to COLD, then to HOT and then to ZERO. It sweeps to HOT a total of 3 times and then stays at ZERO. All other gauges work perfectly and no other issues are present.

Am I correct in thinking the temp sensor is faulty or am I looking at a dash issue? Does the 3 sweeps mean anything - like a code or something?

Thank you so much in advance for ANY help you can give please. I am nervous using it without a working temp sensor, so a quick fix would be ideal.

Hello, and welcome aboard. Don't worry that your first post is a cry for help; you aren't the first and you won't be the last.

I would suggest that you take a look on the link I will post up, to find somebody close to you with a Lexia kit. This is a specialist diagnostic reader for Citroen/Peugeot vehicles (well, we have clones; the true kit is very expensive). This will help narrow down what the fault is. Don't bother with the generic readers, as they don't work here;
