306 heater blower issues

Post by Bandit12 »

Hi Guys

A mate has just joined the French car fraternity and bought a y reg 306 1.4 GLX with aircon yesterday. A crackin little car but with one fault, the heater blower is intermittent. the previous owner said something about the circuit board having a crack in it but they werent sure and this diagnosis was handed over to them when they bought the car 18 months previously.

Is this a common or known fault?

Any suggestions on diagnosis and repair are appreciated.

Due to the high current consumed by the blower I'd be more inclined to look at the various connectors starting with the blower itself, those on the blower regulator module and right back to the ignition switch and finally the ignition switch itself...

On other PSA vehicles of the era, the ignition switch is often the culprit and on occasion the intermittency can be provoked by wiggling the key..

I'd have thought a crack in a PCB was unlikely...

They might have been referring to cracked solder joints on the control panel? I've seen this before. If a firm thump on the panel gets the motor going, then it could be this. Remove panel, examine joints with a magnifying glass for any cracks and reflow as necessary.

Thanks guys and yes defo interested in some scrap parts. We did try giving the panel a bit of a thump but it made no difference. I think best plan is as you have suggested which is to remove and inspect.
I've sent this link to my mate so he can join the forum so either he or I will be in touch re any spares.

An update, my mate has booked car in with a local french car garage on friday for a diagnosis. Ill post the findings and take up the very generous offer of spares over the weekend when we know the results.

Ok the garage says the resistor has failed. Ordinarily a simple job and I've replaced several on my old fraud mundeo over the years but because this car has aircon it is part of the motor so both items have to be replaced as one complete unit. They have quoted £168 including VAT to do the job. Does this sound about right?
