Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Need some help please.

Talking engine out of c8 2.2hdi,will be out in the .morning
C8 and pug 807 use 2.2 hdi dw12ted4, hw engine code.
Best replacement for me would be out of 406 and c5 but they use dw12ted4 ,hx engine code.
All i know is turbo is different on engines.
Its a same garrett gt1549p but on c8 it has different turbo exhaust...

I will very soon be entering the 21st century by collecting a 57 plate C5 2.0 16v HDI VTR 6 speed estate to replace my Xantia!

It needs a replacement dual mass flywheel, I'll do the clutch at the same time and I'm told that its a good idea to replace the starter motor as a precaution.
The cambelt history is unknown, although the aux belt does...

When it comes to slow speed reversing a loaded 4 axle car trailer up hill, I do wonder if the dmf heats up more quickly than a solid would (contributing to clutch burn) but that's my only...

The estate I've fixed up has one annoying problem...........well not too much of a problem really but every time I unlock it with the remote the tailgate window opens and it won't stay shut unless the engine's running, doesn't do it once on the move but when I open the door to get out - pop - it's open again.

I'm wondering if there's any setting...

I drive about 4 miles to work, and then 4 miles back at the end of the day, so both times the engine is cold and never reaches operating temperature. Morning all,
I am looking for a little help with black smoke.
I have had a full service replacing filters etc , new maf filter, checked for air leaks had a new catalytic converter fitted and replaced the injectors and had the turbo checked but it's still the same. Runs perfectly but starts off with white /blue smoke then from 3rd gear upwards it...

Hello All,

I have had a C5 X7 2008 estate, 2.0 Hdi version, for about 6 months now after owning a Mk2 C5 for ten years previous to that. Overall i'm very happy with the car, i've had to spend a fair bit replacing parts (rack, front lower wishbones, suspension pump) but i did get it for a good price for a high mileage car.

Thanks for all the info. I am pretty sure the injectors need cleaning as the car mpg has been over reading when i've checked it against gallons put in the car.

Think i'll try some millers cleaner and see what happens. Otherwise it's just more winter blues.

hi, i just noticed my nearside inner cv boot on my 06 c5 2.0 d auto is split and the cv joint is not happy. are all the nearside driveshafts the same or are the autos different and then is the 4speed different than the 6 speed? thanks

I seem to be only getting 6/6.8volt feed to my pump and it is not running.

have checked the pump with a 12 volt feed, it runs
Have probed the wires (before and after a splice), it still outputs 6/6.8volts
Have switched the relays in the ECU box, it still outputs 6/6.8volts in the wires/plug

Not sure which wires are which at the relay or where...

Hello all

I’m currnetpy in the process of changing my C5 2.2 wishbone bushes, and I’ve dripped some gearbox oil out of the driveshaft seal. As you do, doh. Unfortunately the oil that came out was absolutely disgusting and I’ve always planned to change the oil and now seems like the idea time.
It’s a 6 speed manual and the Haynes says it needs...

For anyone wondering what the right answer was here, I nipped into my friendly Citroen garage today and asked at the parts desk. The chap there is always very helpful with me.

Anyway, my C5 needs 1.9 litres of gearbox oil, no more, no less. And that's with the 'cooling fins', so thanks Mr Haynes!!

I have a C5 with a 1.6VTi (petrol) engine that mostly runs fine, but recently it has been producing a strange ticking sound when idle, as you can hear in the video added below. Daughter's water temp sender on the C3 is playing silly wotsits.

New one just ordered, but tentative attempts to separate the two parts ( small screwdriver levering inwards ie towards the sender itself ) came to nothing....

A doubly big thank you is in order for Jim!

It's a damned good job I didn't scrap my Xantia. The clutch went on Sylv's silver one today. Well! The release bearing at a minimum.

This is the car that some may recall I saved from the scrappers in 2012 with 164k miles on it from Duxford Citroen. It was described as needing a clutch then.

Knowing how they fail, I'd agree. Best to get the job under way as soon as possible as if the bearing pulls right out and the slave decides to disassemble and empty itself you will find yourself in an even bigger world of pain...

Jim did a sterling job sorting out my blower motor and it was very much appreciated as I was at my wits' end with the car for various reasons.

Reading through numerous posts previously in an attempt to try and have a go at sorting the issue myself, I thought that this also caused issues with the heated rear screen.

However, it seems it is not...

Good evening from a sunny Mullion Cove Cornwall.

I wonder if someone can assist, we recently purchased a 2003 C5 petrol 1997 automatic estate.

I have added a picture of the engine.

The oil dipstick may have the original top, but the shaft is a length of clear plastic with no markings on it.

The end is touching the oil .

2000 Xantia SX 110 HYDRAULIC CLUTCH (130K)

Mrs has broken another one :twisted:

Whilst parking at low speed clutch pedal slammed itself to the floor and stayed there stuck in gear.

Called me to fix it 8-[ I've read some of the threads on here but nothing matches my symptoms:

Selects gears OK with the engine turned off.

Morning Chaps

Took Sylv's car for MOT and it needed discs and pads doing.

Like an idiot, I forget to detach the handbrake cable at the cable end before swinging the calipers up out of the way.

Anyway, long story short. I think I may have kinked the cables internally. As I drove home, it felt like the brakes were staying on momentarily after...

Hi there

I'm getting used to the C5 now (2007 1.6 HDi 46K), I've finally managed to get the right combination of seat/steering wheel adjustment to get comfy, and the climate problem has been sorted under warranty (needed a temp or heat reduction motor or something of that ilk!).

My only niggling complaint now is that the clutch seems a bit...

I wonder if your problem is at the clutch pedal, on the C5 it has a helper spring to make the load lighter, if that is missing or broken you will not have that effect. See item 8 on the picture.

Hello everyone!

I have an issue with the front suspension of my Mk1 (2003) C5. It sinks, relatively quickly, to bump stops upon power down. The pump is fine, no external leaks, good ride apart from too much rolling: in short, nothing much externally to suggest what the problem is.

Turning to inside the system, my local garage cannot get any...

That's good to know and what I had hoped. A new strut v one that has done over 115000 miles aren't going to perform in exactly the same way (or are they?!), so I shall wait and see if the new one settles as you suggest it might.

Question to all with the knowledge,

The fitting guide as per citroen service says tighten belt to max position and rotate belt for 6 full turns and reposition to normal position.

My question refers to a you tube video of someone doing said belt and turning eccentric tensioner to normal position and turning belt around twice.

Any thoughts ?...

I have a Mk1 / 02 C5 Estate, which seems to be handling a bit strange in the last month or so.... :shock:

Going round corners, it feels like there is a soft tyre, and it takes a fair swing to the outside of the corner sometime !

Be aware too that the computer engine oil level indicator that comes on for a few seconds (when switching on the ignition), will only be accurate after a period of 30 minutes after topping up!

I'm not sure whether the official reviews, Parkers, Auto Express etc. actually bother to check the cars, or just repeat the manufacturers specs.

I’ve recently changed the clutch and flywheel in my c crosser however the clutch biting point seems quite low (lower than the accelerator) and I wondered if that was normal, I have no comparison as the clutch slave had gone when I bought the car ?
I’ve tried bleeding a few times and can’t see any bubbles in the fluid ?

Hi all, could someone please tell me how to remove the body-colour painted cover from a late S1 Xantia door mirror? I don't want to prise away blindly at the edge in case I chew up the plastic or break something. It's not clear from the outside how the cover is attached.

I've just bought a secondhand replacement for my car's wobbly mirror unit...

I attempted much the same thing on my 405 and concluded that in my case, its nigh on impossible to remove the outer, complete with its clips, without destroying the mirror glass and mechanism.

I ended up 'losing' the clips in the course of removal, and the outer is now held on by half a dozen tiny little M3(?) Stainless Steel Pan Head self...

Hi guys,

I just got a C4 picasso diesel 1.6 from a trusted source. Not sure if it is grand or not.
The car had a major service just a couple of weeks ago, filled it up this morning from sainsbury's full tank fill up 45 litres (nothing unusual there) it then drove to work for 40 minutes no problem.

4 days in with no problems, drove to work fine...

I have Citroen C5 2001 V6 and it is showing Catalyst Converter Fault and Anti Pollution error. Connected the generic OBD2 scanner it detected Cylinder 1 mishfire. So to confirm if just the coil or spark plug, I swapped the coil with cylinder 2 and then it detected same error in cylinder 2. so it is confirmed that coil is faulty. So I ordered new...

Morning all

I've got a 2003 Citroen Relay van with a 2.2Hdi engine in it. I've owned it for about 6 months and use it for band transport.

Anyway, it's always had an intermittent engine light come up on the dashboard so a couple of days ago I thought I'd investigate and the first thing I discovered that the glow plug relay was in a bad way...

I have a Mk2 Xantia 1.9 TD Sx to pass on

Newish radiator
Usual rust around the wheel arches.

I dinged the bumper last week so needs a new rear bumper.
The airbag lights are coming on - it could be the ABS too as both lights are connected...
192000 miles

Newish cam belt
Had the engine rebuilt and new cylinder head (don't ask)

Got in my car this morning and the hydraulic pump for the suspension was making an awfully noise, so I take it that the pump is in need of some TLC. My intension is to remove the pump and if I can refurbish the motor, can someone please tell me .

The tailgate on my car needs a hefty old shove to get it to lock. I'm sure it was'nt that awkward when I bought the car. I've looked in the BOL but can't see how to adjust the lock. Can anyone help, do I have to remove the chrome trim from the boot lip to do it?

Thinking of going to take a look at this C5 Mk2 Exclusive as a possible replacement for my Mk1 LX. A couple of concerns:

Current car has no DPF and one reads warnings that DPF equipped cars aren't suited to low mileage drivers. I'm doing only around 6,000-7,000 miles a year but live very close to the M53 so can pop out for the occasional fast run...

I'd just like to add if I may, that I took my 90800 mile used Mk2 Hdi 16 valve C5 hatch Manual,
for a nice journey of 330 miles return trip to Portsmouth from Kettering Northants last Saturday.
Total fuel costs for the return trip £41.00 and I was gunning it on the way home as I didn't get back until 12.30 am.
its my first ever long run on cruise...

Looking for 2 parts - the rubber gasketlike that is installed on the gear selector cover (the plastic cover with the grooves in which the selector lever moves and the rubber shutter that is installed beneath the cover and blocks the the grooves.

Marc - your help is extraordinarily. judging from the picture - it's an assembly, not stand alone parts (and the price of it strengthen that assumption). what's funny - I've been at a scrapper, there were four C5's and that part was already dismantled from the four of them.

I'd like to be able to make the 'lighter' socket live all the time. The (sadly missed) Xantia had a shunt in the fusebox which could make various circuits (like radio and socket) 'live' in the AUX position. The GC4P only has 3 ignition key positions (Off, On, Start). One of the under-dash fuse panels has a SHUNT in F16 but apart from listing it,...

Looking at your picture of the BSI fuses - not sure if this helps - but the central locking (F2) would seem to be permanently on. If you got a hard wire kit - they usually contain a smaller amp fuse for the piggy back.
