Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

my m.o.t on my xantia is now due and one of the problems apart from a faulty abs sensor is the drivers door, the hinge has come away at the weld on the door and also the door handle is bust so i've got a Replacement door, i've tried to remove the door pins but they seem very tight i was wondering if anyone has any tips for removing them :)

If this is what's panning out to be the case on my latest acquisition what can I expect? Is the best course of action a total engine swap or do I lift the head and repair the valves - aren't the bottom ends stronger than the valves anyway? Not sure about bore damage that's the only thing...

Am I right in thinking Haynes never made a BOL for the BX 4x4?

Every one I can find says All petrol engined models except 4x4 .

Does anybody else find these last about a year then just go?

I have had 3 Xantias now and i've replaced many times the seal on the accumulator sphere(that O ring rubber thingy), it just breaks. Last august i changed all the spheres on my Activa, this week, the seal broke on the accumulator sphere.

Am i doing somthing wrong? How long do they...

As others have pointed out the seal will last the lifetime of the sphere, and then some without leaking. They don't just fail without a good reason.

I regularly reuse the same square section seal if a new one isnt available and I've NEVER had one leak, ever.

There is some debate about the merits of the o-ring type and the square section type -...

I've just been to Citroens website looking at the C6 Spec's, can anybody explain to me why anybody would buy the 3.0V6 Engine over then 2.7Hdi Engine when the Hdi is faster 0-60 and does more MPG? Maybe i'm just being stupid.

does anyone know where the relay or pressure sensor is for the fuel tank pump, i can get the pump to work by putting a live to the pump fuse, but it wont work off the ignition, any ideas?

the pressure sensor is in the fuel rail but it wont stop the LP fuel pump running.check for corroded wiring in the loom under the radiator,the brown double relay you replaced might be missing a feed.

the MOT, and my Activa has pissed on the floor from the Accumulator Sphere and its got an MOT in 11 hours. Not a huge amount, just enough to make it take 13 minutes to presurise and the stop lights go off. Why or Why is it always me :(

i always test my car a about a week before the m.o.t is due just in case it needs any work doing and last year just before i was about to take it to the m.o.t station on came the abs light and i had to replace the front near side sensor and lo and behold its m.o.t time again and off goes the offside front sensor :evil:

Just got my insurance renewal in and they have this down as the description of my car. The reg no is correct and I have phoned them to clarify. Has anyone else seen this, does LPT stand for Light pressure turbo?

The DVLA had my Xantia down as a LPT SD model although its actually a 90 bhp TD version. Same thing happened with insurance renewal & I did tell them to put it as a TD - I could have got away with it being insured two groups lower if I hadn't, DOH!

Quick recap - Xantia 2.1td poor running, loss of power black smoke excessive noise with then got dramatically worse.

Diagnosis -part of the auxiliary belt that had stripped off had managed to get into the timing belt cover causing the belt to jump on the camshaft pulley by 1 and then 2 teeth, making the timing on the camshaft late.

As commented in a previous post, the 2.1 having hydraulic tappets along with the belt not actually breaking and my suspicion that it was initially only 1 tooth out and slipped a further tooth at low revs I'm going to be...

Just replaced the mounts on the ZX yesterday. On lifting the carpet it was wet on the left hand side. The car has been stood for over a month so not been on a wet road. The drain pipes for the sunroof seem ok as I poured water in and both channels cleared at the front arches.

I will investigate futher but just wondered if anyone had any...

Quite right, there are two drain pipes that are easily seen in the back bumper. Only thing is they are clear. I think water is getting under the seal of the rear window (3 door).

Today shortly after pulling away from an arcade of shops I went to brake as i was coming to a junction,doing approx 20 miles an hour speed wise when I went to brake and the dam car wouldnt stop,the brake pedal was pulsating quite violently.I managed to stop the car on the handbrake without hitting anyone...

The wire which controls the recycle/fresh air button on the xantia was loose, by this i mean the circular slot that the wire end engages into was not engaging, because the wire is slightly kinked in a couple of places, therefore kept coming out when I move the outside control. :(

I have therefore placed the wire end into its slot and held it...

I have just changed my car and it is the best bargain ever so far. 1997P Xantia 1.9TDSX MOT till Mar 07 Tax end Sept pale met blue. Absolutely spotless with 122k miles and a full history. The seller said it needed new spheres and it was overheating.
Swapped the new spheres off my old car. And swapped the radiator caps over as the spring seal was...

Will Citroen do such a beast to compete against the M5 and RS6 and AMG Mercs? It would be an interesting excercise by Citroen, they have made quick cars but not in the same league as the M5. I drool over M5's, never seen one being opened up on the public roads, they are usually full of old men.

I think the C6 souped up and dropped with a V8 would...

Yes, you have to drop the rear subframe. See here where it's described in all its glory:

The Volcane one will be lowered, so your 1.4 will look a bit silly unless you fit Volcane front struts as well!
Spongy brakes could be due to a myriad of reasons, but the fact they have not changed after you changed the front calipers suggests the 'fault'...

Finally got round to doing this yesterday. First decent day I have had the time to spend on it. Jacked it up etc. and placed a ramp under the front exhaust section.

The offside was easy. However the n/s took longer because I could not get the large damper bolt out of the swing arm to remove the damper. Very tight in? Heated it and it moved a bit...

My stepson has the above car. He was driving along when it suddenly cut out. Have tried swapping the ignition module, put new HT leads on, swapped the ecu but unsure if the one from the scrappers worked!
Am unsure what to do next. Does anyone have any ideas please?

I would expect that if its not used the starter won't work - so the mere fact that the starter works is probably an indication that the thing is functioning.

The fuel pump may only run when the starter is operated - this is quite common for safety reasons. - Can it be heard when the starter is running?

Depends on whether it is a 1 or 2 circuit...

The radiator fans on my 97 V6 Xantia are not coming on full stop.

I've found threads on here about them, but they all seem to be just 1 fan coming on, or just high speed.

I get nothing. Also no Aircon, if you press the button many times you can get the light to come on the switch, but it makes no difference, no aircon comes on.

So what to do...

Since you have air conditioning, it’s easy to test the fans because switching on the aircon must always make both fans spin at the low speed.
It’s more likely that a fan will have worn brushes than that it won’t turn from lack of use.

Hi all

I had a look at the back of my head unit recently and it has a standard ISO connection. can anyone tell me which of the top plugs may possibly be a output that I can get an adapter for an RCA output to run to an AMP.

I've upgraded the speakers but the unit just cant drive them. and a nice sub would work well in the little coupe.

Ok, this thing is driving me nuts, completely.

I've just took my Xantia to a local garage to get the back suspension arm bearings done, on the way back home I noticed a thumping noise coming from the back end that got louder going round roundabouts and stopped when I pressed the brakes then started again when I released them. I'm taking the car back to the garage tomorrow, any advice on what...

Advice needed ,

Today at work dustcar blew up its hydrulics , spilling all its fluids over my metallic Xsara . This covered the bumper , bonnet , windscreen and both sides . Spoke to driver and said , Are you going to get someone to sort me car out ,He said what can I do about .

Spillage team turn up and forget to bring cos sheets with them...

Replaced the boot lock solenoid with a Maplins equivalent about £8. Just needed to re drill the holes in the boot to align with the new switch a surprisingly easy job. If anyone wants More in depth procedure description I can do one. Also took the boot wiper relay out to replace. Turns out to be quite difficult to get hold of one. Anyway I got...

Hi again mates, my zx has bendix calipers and they are sounding pretty bad,creacking noise with car stationary and when moving too. The sound is coming out from the front brakes, as you press the brake pedal, the sound begins to appear and when you release it slowly, it happens the same noise. hi i have the same problem on my zx from the drivers side of the wheel

I had a look the other day and the creaking is from the whole calipher mechanism itself only option seems to be to replace the part that holds the break pads in place as this seems to cause the creaking and the piston part of the calpiher as well.

Always fancied and Activa, and spotted this on ebay (UK).

I'm tempted, but just spent £400 on cam belt, water pump, service, MOT, etc etc on my old Xanita so this would not be the best time to change, I've just about talked myself out of it.

If anyone else fancies it I'll follow all the posts with interests as its new owner sorts it out!

folks, it looks like i have sold my car in the next few days, and guess what, the car wont come up from full down or vice versa, at the back.

Xantia 1.8 i 1999

plastic link is fine ;)

I rebuilt and cleaned the rear corrector quite recently. I have been under car (on ramps) and i can disconnect manual adjuster, get the car full up and full down...

Sorry, i was talking about the cradel not being lubricated!
Ah well thats a different story!

Mind you it seems to corrode only in places like the UK, over here in NZ the height corrector spring assemblies don't seem to corrode at all.... and they are stainless steel anyway, so should be fairly corrosion resistant.

I guess no car component...

I have LHM fluid leaking from the right-hand side (as viewed from the front) of the hydraulic pressure regulator. It seems to be from behind the bracket.

What has failed here? Does it mean a new unit, or is there a repair possible? And how much is it likely to cost?

Could someone post a line drawing or picture of the unit so that I can better...

No offence -
Was not aware your mention of top seal was the same as the plug seal I mentioned. But it is the plug getting slightly offset due to the bracket that causes the seal to leak.

The seal (item 18 on drawing) can of course be replaced if you want to fight the spring force and circlip holding the plug.

My citroen Dispatch 1.9TD van would not start the other day there was fuel going to the pump so i thought the fuel pump solenoid might be at fault. In installing a new solenoid the van started first turn of the key and ran all afternoon stopping and starting around several times,but early the next morning the same thing turning over but will not...

Usually no fuse in this circuit - because of the high currents involved (would require a max fuse of some 60Amps).

During glow timing there should be at least 10.5V on the glow plugs line - and at least some 11.5V directly on the battery poles. Lower than this is a sure sign of a deadly tired battery.

Got a noise coming from the front suspension unit/wheel when the car goes over a bump. There's also some noise when turning. Is this likely to be the front hub bearing or something to do with the suspension? The suspension is firm on the side that the noise is coming from & bounces on the other side

Hi all. We have a '98 VTS that is flickering the oil, stop and coolant warning light and the coolant guage is going haywire. It all happens under braking.

Hi All,

Are there any outward physical signs that the forward axle mounts might be failing or have failed, like there were on the Morris 1100 ?
I looked at the tops of the forward studs and the near side one is at 3 o'clock in its hole and the off side one is at about five o'clock.
I haven't got very far with dealing with one or two little...

With this recent improvement in the weather, after a long hot day in the car park, my new to me, Xantia smells like a kennel! The previous owner obviously had a dog(s).

A C3 is multiplexed, Very easy to cause some expensive damage if you wire it up incorrectly!

Either use the kit that Citroen can supply or ask a friendly towbar man who knows about CAN / multiplexing.

When I jump in the Xantia and switch it on at the moment the heating system seems to blast some really smelly air at me. Doesn't matter if the aircon is on or not. It's not the failing heater matrix smell- I do get that a little bit as well but the carpet is not damp in the passenger footwell and it's not losing any coolant. Also the fan only...

Assistance required.

Anybody out there recently taken off the dash for access to matrix as I needto know which cables goes where.
The three cables are colour coded Brown, Blue and White

I am about to replace the head gasket on my 1998 Xantia engine 1.9TD DHX, the gasket I require is listed on GSF as N11150 2 notch as determined by piston protrusion. Also listed are two other gaskets described as N11153 Metal sandwich gasket STD, and N11153A metal sandwich Repair. Does anyone know which of these gaskets is likely to be more...

I've now got all the bits fitted to my car. (Hdi 110). I had to buy the extra (red) brake switch, the nylon clip which holds it in place (very important, I thought it would be supplied with the switch-it wasn't :( And of course the steering column mounted switch.
The job took about an hour, working slowly and carefully. I used a continuity tester...

You need a cruise control stalk & if you ave a brake light switch with 2 wires then you need an additional switch,if your brake light switch has 4 wires the no other parts are required.the injection ECU then needs to be programed with a lexia or Proxia machine.

Battle bus passed it's MOT on Saturday but I would like a bit of info re: 'Free Acceleration Smoke Test'

I was told when I went to pick it up that it had failed the test first time round and that the tester had to take it for a spin up the bypass and retested it when he got back. results as follows.
