Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

i recently passed my driving test (last Tuesday in fact) and a friend of mine sold me a 1997 (R reg), Citroen Xantia 1.9lter TD SX with aircon for £200

i have a few problems with it and as I'm not really good with the names of things (though i am good with engines and fixing faults) i thought id ask this lovely community to see if any of you can...

Evening all

I've got some play in my final drive thats fine when your going along but sometimes causes a jerky pullaway. Its not a major problem but it looked to me like the final drive could be removed from the gearbox without having to change the whole lot.

Questions;

Can this be done

Is it normal for a Xantia with 137k on the clock to have...

There is a ring of bolts holding the crownwheel onto the diff unit, they are in there with a very good thread locking compound I cannot imagine them working loose, when I stripped a diff unit the threads came out with the bolts!, theres little else in there.

i have a 2002 c5 2.0hdi sx.in the last week the rear drivers side door won't unlock with the central locking off the remote.i can unlock it by operating the interior handle and it stays unlocked.it then locks ok with the remote.has anyone any ideas :?

Hi all I could be a million miles away here but from a slightly scary experience on an earlier Xant - could the noise be a failing bearing on the Air Con pump? If it is, it stops when the air con is engaged.
Really bad wear can cause the belt to fray or move across a groove or two.

I'm thinking about my turbo in 2.0 petrol, it's garrett TB2567 according to catalogs. There is a problem I can't find it anywhere. It's water cooled and I wonder is it possible to replace it for different model like T25 or similar. Will it work and fit?

Ive looked on GSF but i cant see it on there at all so was wondering if its only available thru citroen?

Mine has started to perish the rubber ring itself so is this replacable on its own at all or is it a whole mounting?

Doesnt look like its too big a job but its annoying sometimes at certain revs and while holding a certain rev on descents...

A 50mm socket is about the right size to fit on the edge of the bush, but I tried hitting that but it wouldn't budge, so I had to resort to bashing the sides of the bush, it went in just about flush. If it isnt far enough the bracket may foul the edge and cause the vibration problem you are experiencing.

Hi I found a CAV nozzle tester today at the dump, it looks like a large jack only instead of a ram it has a hose comming out the side of a large guage which is marked in atmospheres , is this equal to bars.???. I remember a post showing how to test spheres but I cant find it now , can anyone help. rgards john.

just got my car back yesterday the ride is alot better but still a slight shake at 70 so the next course of action is getting the wheels balanced. The engine is still very shakey when starting from cold is this normal ? and if say the timing belt is out how can I tell ?

i need to change my thermostat on my 2.1td xantia as it only gets to just over 60c when i'm on the motorway so either it's stuck or there isn't one in there i tried Euro parts and they said that they don't stock it and gsf only list one for a 1.9td, any know if they are the same including the sealing ring :)

The reason that they put it there is to improve the efficiency of the cooling system as it prevents airlocks in the head, when did you last hear of a cracked 2.1 td head?

I dont think that the 2.1 has two thermostats, at least I have never found another one, but the 2.5 as used in the XM does. A good engine but too complicated and almost...

i had a few bulbs out on my xantia dash so i replaced them but i still seem to have a couple that are out, it's the ones right in the centre of the speedo and the rev counter and the pointers aren't lit up either all the bulbs that i can see appear to be working, am i missing something here are there some bulbs that are hidden :)

Gowdammit!! Everything works fine including the foot brakes so I'm going
on theassumption the callipers and pads on the front hubs are OK. The
actual handbrake lever seems nice and firm and doesn't point to the
headlining like a Cx and is within the 5 clicks usual rule of thumb and
there's no binding just no braking effort...

Well even tho I no longer own my 1.9TD Zx aura my Girlfrioend does and Its time to replace the ARB bushs.
My queston is, can I simple jack the car up - remove wheels and the ARB drop links then undo the bolts holding the ARB to the car and replace the bushs? Or is it a more complcated job then that?

Any information would be greatfully accepted....

Does anyone know if the engines are the same, will an engine from a car fitted with auto transmission fit in a car with manual trasmission, will the engine mate up correctly, both cars 1998 MK2, the auto box is AL4, this box is faulty it drives briefly when engine first started and then very shortly afterwards no drive in any gear, if you switch...

Hi

I've noticed LHM escaping from the rubber seal on top of the tank. I removed the clip, checked the filter assy was seated properly and refitted the clip but after a half hour drive, a bit more has slopped out.

Has anyone else had this. Seal looks ok, bit dirty thats all.

Also check the two rubber elbow joints on the plastic return pipes which don't have hose clamps, if they go hard they can start dribbling down onto the tank, and check the level site glass is locked into place properly. (It rotates clockwise to lock)

Well I can't put it off any longer, the leak is getting worse and it's starting to smell bad so I've gotta change the matrix before winter sets in.

Looked at GSF who only list a matrix for Xantia without air con, is there a difference or is it just a GSFism?

Anyone done this job on a Mk2 V6? Cant see it being much different to any other variant...

Can anyone help with locating the coolant drain plug on my Citroen XM 2.1 TD 1997 estate please? Is it the thing that might be a drain plug on the back of the cylinder block, next to the electronic oil level indicator? Just wanted to check before undoing it . . . . Thanks!

My, another XM in the next county! I am not aware of the existance of a drain plug, I just disconnect the bottom hose. Mine has got hoses held on with jubilee clips, I suspect yours being later has got the bayonet type fittings.

Im convinced im dribbling some fuiel from the rear of my injection pump and was wondering if there are common things on these that go at all. Its either that or a very slow HP pump leak possibly but i doubt it is due to the smell though does get dirty very quickly and isnt easy to see at night :(

Hi,
I have a xantia Nreg 1.9 Turbo Diesel with a Bosh Pump.
Does anyone know if I can adjust something to improve fuel economy, without the risk of MOT failure?
I dont mind a slight loss of performance.

I echo the comments above about the 21.TD. IMHO it is a fabulous engine, being very refined, smooth and quiet and giving loads of torque, which enables a relaxed driving style and hence (for the size of the car) excellent fuel economy. No exaggerating, it will do a genuine 45 mpg (air con off!) day to day running and over 50 mpg on a run driven...

Here's a swine of a problem! Near side rear door won't open (from outside or inside). Have taken off door panel and outside handle. All rods/connections OK but when activating the lock it sounds like something is loose inside it. I'm afraid that it looks as though the motor has failed in the locked position. Trouble is you have to have the door...

Well, normality has been restored! :lol: The lock had failed. Citroen price for replacement lock £111 + VAT!!!! Breakers price £5 inc'!!!! Hadn't got time or energy to faf (sp?) around with it so got local garage to fit it today. Cost £40 which I thought was quite reasonable. So, thanks for your thoughts/advice, job done..... until the next time!...

Once the engine is fully warmed up , at idle, the revs sometimes increase up to 2000rpm for no apparent reason, and sometimes they just steadily fluctuate between 1000 and 1500rpm.

When the revs increase to around 2000rpm and I slightly tap the accelerator, the revs in turn go up to 2500rpm. Turning the aircon off actually causes the engine to...

I know exactly what you mean, my 2 litre 8 valve also does this occasionally, and I havn't found the problem yet...(sometimes it will wander up to 1300 rpm or so when hot and then drift back down to normal idle speed)

Aparently the two most common causes are an air leak in the inlet manifold causing the MAP sensor to be fooled, or a sticking idle...

Hi everybody!

Old belt died .
After replacing I suddenly disclosed that the new one escapes (on the crankshaft's flywheel-to car's outside, on tensioner-inside). :shock:
First slipping (4-6mm)-on tensioner even when crancshaft rotated by hand 0.5-1 turn.

Hi All,

I'm in the middle of doing the cambelt and replacing the water pump on my Xantia (2 litre 8 valve petrol) and I've run into a problem draining the coolant - I've drained 6 litres from the main drain point at the bottom left of the radiator, (with the various air bleeds open) but according to the Haynes manual there is a coolant drain plug...

Morning All

I have a noisy gearbox when idling in neutral or driving round town in low gears which is spoiling an otherwise perfect car.

The BoL says it is the input shaft bearing as the sound disappears when I depress the pedal. It says it can't be the clutch release bearing as that only makes a noise WHEN you press the clutch pedal.

Hi all,

I have 1992 zx 1.9d, the drivers door does not open when I use the remote plib but all other doors and boot open fine!!!

I have to open driver door manually with the key which is a pain.

Any ideas on what it could be and how to test it???

Hi everyone, new to the site but amazed at the level of knowledge available.

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this type of forum but I have a question to but to you, which Xantia is the best to buy?

To date I've had a Xantia 1.9TD, a Xantia 1.8i 8valve (I Still Own), drove the Xantia 1.8i 16 valve (Nice indeed!!) and now I have a 2.0HDI Xantia 90Bhp which I love to drive.

Now when it comes to cars I'm afraid I only know the basics....

Under car with F wheel off and drop link disconnected looking for extra movement within suspension. Pushing and pulling (in, out, left & right) by hand, on hub I noticed a slight movement within lower-arm bush. Just paid for some costly repair work on a 1.9TD MKII Xantia, to get it through the MOT.

Had a whole suspension arm replaced due to worn balljoint. I'm sure once before, I had just the balljoint replaced on an earlier model. Is the balljoint at least sometimes part of the arm, or did they just go for overkill? The arm cost £85. Ouch.

Do I reall have to shell out loads of dosh to get the plips working on a Xantia 1.8 late 1998? Just got the car and of course there ain't no security code with the car! Any suggestions please?

Hi All,
One question regarding my sons Mk2 Xantia Hdi 90 S reg.
Both front and rear washers have packed up. Checked all the fuses on board, pulled off plugs at each pump, no power to either,--checked operating arm and fed it some WD40. Are there any other fuses to do with this item?

Hi Greg,

Probably no use, I’ve only got the Haynes 1996 for the Mk I, showing a single pump motor with only 2 wires for both the front and rear screen washers.
How that goes, I don’t know, perhaps that the pump turns one way for the front washer, and the other way for the rear.
The only fuse showing is F24, 30 Amps, under the dash.

Hi All,

Finally got around to tackling the timing belt on my Xantia (2 litre 8 valve petrol) and found this: :?

Looks like the water pump is leaking :cry:

The brown substance is sticky gooey crap which I presume is leaking coolant mixed with grease and oil ? There is enough of this stuff built up that the edge of the belt is actually...

Not just petrolheads, any PSA motor with a cambelt-driven waterpump!

They are such a pain if you have to fix them separately.

And the same applies to the camshaft and crankshaft end seals while your at it - it's such a minor job while you've got the cambelt off, you'll kick yourself if you don't do them.

my xantia seems to hace a rather loud turbo whine so i thought i'd check all the intercooler pipes and it seems that there is a problem with the pipe that runs under the sump up to the turbo, the bracket that attaches it to the engine block has snapped off and were the pipe connects to the turbo it appears to have split, no problem i thought i'll...

I had a Transit R plate 2.5 NA that was dry when i took her on at telewest as its one of the first things i checked as it was on the handover list i couldnt miss it anyway but it was a bit worrying... about 30k later the engine spat a conrod out the side of the block and...

Is the above same for mk1 and mk2's along with the engine variants?

I have a 2000W hdi hatch and the rear driver side needs changing cos it snapped. I have located one but the scrapper says it is an earlier one and it has abs like mine. Whats the liklihood of it fitting correctly?

Anybody got any suggestions for the removal of the LONG driveshaft on the ZX Saloon? I have split the hub from the CV joint, suspension is all out of the way.
I have pushed, pulled, sworn, hammered, pryed and nearly cried but the intermediate bearing wont move in its housing. Before you ask, yes I have released the two captive bolts that hold on...

I've just fitted 205/40/R17's all round and its ok up front at the back I can't get my fingers between the wheel & the rear arch. I've had a look at my bro's 306 & the inner arches are smooth on that where as the ZX is ribbed. I think it'll need 2~5mm(max) spacers at the back. I have no worries with the lip as we have flaired it to stick outwards...

So far I have tried:

1. A strap wrench - won't budge even with 1.5' long wrench

2. Making my own tool, consiting of a 2' long bar with a 8mm stud bent in a loop and and fed through holes in the bar, then clamped on sphere using nuts - Still...
