Xantia Mk2 Outside Temperature Reads 5 Degrees more

Post by marsalek »

Hi everybody,

the thermometer for the outside temperature reads constantly 5 degrees more since a couple of weeks. Where to start looking?

Thanks for your tips!

Hi..

Series one sensor is on NEARSIDE (UK) (sitting in car, left mirror) door mirror, on the underside...
Series two from 1998 onwards, is on OFFSIDE (UK) (sitting in car, right) door mirror

Its connected to the harness behind the door card.. Useually black wires with a white plug..

The circuit is that simple, a sensor connected to the read out.. i think it could only be the sensor..

It could also be the readout on the dash faulty. On my previous Mk1 Xantia, the temperature started reading high, and eventually just read ----, but the sensor was OK.

Mine always seems a couple of degrees optimistic too

Obvious, I know, but if the car's parked with the sensor in the sun, the redings will be higher that 'in the shade' temperatures, which are the published figures.

It could also be caused by a bad connection or partially severed wire somewhere between the dash and the sensor causing a high resistance. (Assuming the sensor is a PTC thermistor type). Try flexing the rubber harness between door and door pillar while watching for sudden changes in the temperature display to confirm if there is a nearly broken wire in there.
