Guess the part that fell off!

Post by Toby_HDi »

Can anyone confirm that the following parts are in fact from the auto tensioner and not somewhere else? They were found wedged between said tensioner wheel and the belt.

These bits remind me of what happened to a Pug 206 1.9 Diesel I had a while back. The fan belt failed and bits of it, looking suspiciously like your photos, wedged themselves between the cam belt and one of the pulleys.......... the belt jumped a few teeth, the valves hit the pistons and you can imagine the rest!

So, my guess is that you are right :?: . Hopefully you have been luckier than me.

Just to add, the items in question are metal.

The belt is intact (how I don't know )

I'd go for crankshaft pulley too! Common fault if it is.

Looks nasty Toby

Saying that, I better check my dual mass crank pulley as I seem to remember it cracking slightly a few months back.

Hi -

If these sheet metal bits were to be missing from any running part - that part would no longer work - period.
Also the crank pulley is not made of sheet metal, but cast iron or forged steel material.

To me it looks much more like a sheet metal cover - or simply foreign pieces of debries - that has been in contact with the moving parts.

Anders, on the HDi engines it's not a solid pulley, its a moving damper type.

Im still 99% sure its the bits of the crankshaft pulley. If you take the belt off you'll find that theres a bit of play in it.

Hi
I agree with wheeler this looks like the crank pulley is breaking up a very common problem on the hdi engines

Blimey Toby - and you only recently had to replace your timing belt too? Still on the upside you'll be familiar with the work required :)

Here's hoping you find the problem and have some fault free motoring!

Well, the crankshaft pulley looks absolutely fine. Have just taken it off to have a look.

Try painting a line across the crank pulley so you can check in a day or two just to be sure.

Its strange as the crank pulley looks absolutely fine. All intact. I took it off yesterday to look. Just makes me wonder where the metal came from.
