Help on rear seats please. (lost handbook)

Post by Penguin »

Hi chaps

Really basic question this time. I've lost the rather tatty handbook that came with my Xant, and last week I had to put the seats down to transport stuff to the dump. I managed to get teh rear of the seats to fold down by pressing the big button but couldn't manage to pull the seat bases forward (tilt). I managed to lift them a couple of inches but couldn't seem to find any release mechanism.

I've got to take more stuff to the dump straight after work this afternoon so wondered whether anyone could point me in the right direction with this one?

Thanks in advance.

Seat backs in upright position ready for take off ;)
It helps to have the front seats moved forwards.
Grab under the front of the seat bottoms and lift directly up to tilt the front up.
Then grab the back of the seat bottoms (between them and the seat backs) and rotate the back of the seat bottoms up and forward so they are flat against the backs of the front seats.
Having removed the headrests (which can be stowed safely in the footwells behind the front seats), release them and fold them down.

Lift the front of the seat bases directly up (ie nearest the front drivers an passengers seat), and they will raise about 3 inches, then lift the rear (where the seat belts come up up) up and forwards, job done.
Think that makes sense

Cheers chaps, I never would have worked that out for myself!

Unfortunately Xac, my Xantia did not come complete with rear headrests. I will have to start trawling scrapyards!

i thought the base squabs have to go up at the front edge then forward before you can tilt the rear edge up

You're right, they do go forwards, but that tends to happen automatically when you lift the back edge up (or even just slip your fingers in the gap)

Jeez, it's so easy when you know how! Thanks for the help, I managed to get the tree to the tip no problem last night. I see what you mean about it being easier if the front seats are moved forward.

Cheers
