Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi, car is a 1.9 td vsx L reg xantia.
Have been gradually doing up the car and it was quite good, however I decided to replace the rear centre sphere yesterday.
Fitting the new sphere was no problem and all went as normal until the car was repressurised.

Now the car behaves badly when moving up and down. What I presume is air is moving around the...

I think we're on to something here. The car didn't have hydractive at first. Had to replace the fuse, then lots of pipe after the new fuse. If someone had disabled the hydractive then they would maybe put on the normal spheres. Rear two are the only ones not replaced so will try.
Think that new sphere may have been wrong as well. Hole was bigger...

In addition to the fault code problems I have got, it would appear that there is an immobiliser issue too.
I go through the usual procedure: turn on ignition, type in code, light goes from red to green and then start. Trouble is there isn't even a click from the starter.

It seems I have two problems at the same time - how frustrating.

Could it be something like the infamous ignition switch? Intermittant contact to the ignition live would confuse the hell out of the ECU, and possibly cause the non-operational starter..

If the lights don't dim when you try the starter, then it's not even trying (hence no click either)..

Hi Folks,
I've purchased centre spheres for my C5 2.2hdi estate (01 plate). Should the rear have no valve like an accumulator sphere and the front have a valve like front strut sphere?
I don't want to get underneath armed with wrong bits!
Front is marked C562 FR
Rear is marked C544 RQ
Cost if anyone is interested was £36.94 each.

Hi uhn113x,

I compared them to the new transistors and can confirm the old ones have gone short-circuit C-E.

In my case, the failure happened in my custody and, similar to citrojim's failure, water leaking onto the blower may have caused the short.

Our wonderful little ZX has started to develop some strange symptoms! The car is a 1.6 with the single point injection. The car has had new ignition pack, HT leads, spark plugs and sensor. Nothing comes up on fault codes with the diagnostic reader.

A scan revealed the following codes:

202 ROTOR QUANTIT CYCLE CONTROL

48 ROTOR 2 POSITION SENSOR CIRCUIT

What are they, where are they and can they be replaced?

Have a 1998 Xantia 1.9td SX Runs fine apart from the following. When changing gear from 2nd to 3rd it crunches when cold or hot. Doesn't happen if I change slowly. Also crunches changing down into 3rd gear fast or slowly. No noise changing to any other gear. No strange noises or any slipping. Is it the clutch or gearbox? If I leave what could be...

I agree - it sounds like worn synchro on 3rd.

Its worth changing the oil so that you know that the correct stuff is in there.

An old favorite of mine - is the clutch breaking in the right place? If its breaking on or very near to the floor its worth adjusting - which may well cure the problem.

Another longshot is to check the gearchange linkage...

As an owner of a late XUD 1.9DT (1997), as well as a high mileage (205k) 1999 HDi 90, I feel that it might be of intrerest to make a comparison.

Both of mine are Xantia Estates, so weight is a fairly important factor. Essentially, the XUD seems to have the edge in terms of grunt above 2000rpm, but in realy motoring terms the HDi has it on all...

2.1 - mine had 215k miles on the clock when I sold it, it has Lucas Epic and the hydraulic tappets weren't noisy, I had a good experience from it, and no trouble whatsoever.

As for it's fuel economy... i've never driven a 1.9 to compare it, but I would say it's more economical on the long run, maybe a bit heavier around town, so overall for MPG i...

Does anyone know if there are any known weaknesses in the Xantia's horn circuit? Both horns don't work yet my basic meter testing shows 12volts at either horn connectors when the stalk button is pressed. I then hooked up a 12volt interior light (too weak?) bulb to test the power and it glowed solidly and brightly on either connectors.

I haven't tested for voltage drop on the horn circuit yet but I did make one surprising discovery - one of the original horns began working today when tested directly to the car battery. It didn't work on first connection but on second try, after an initial constipated sound it gave a constant low note.

Well, after the front height corrector on my Xantia seized up (the hydraulic cylinder bits) I took it all apart, cleaned it all up. Now trying to put it all back together again.

Hydraulic pipes took much persuading to rethread, all done now, onto the final challenge, the plastic clip!

It's too far away from the metal ball to pop over it, so...

I've been working on the old TD today, partly getting it ready for its busy towing season in a few weeks time and to investigate bad braking reported by SWMBO. These days I rarely drive it so it came as a shock just how bad the brakes were. I put it down to worn-out pads so today I've given it a good brake service.

I hadn't appreciated that this was a non-anti-sink Xantia - and thought the judder might be pump pulses from the 2 pistons of a later type pump.

LHM can escape from the accumulator in 3 ways - onwards, down the centre piston or back the way it came - ie via the non-return valve.

If the car lifts at all with the engine off then the accumulator...

The side airbag light is on, well it goes out but comes back on, will it be an MOT failure point? I'm hoping it's just the under seat connectors, but the MOT is looming so I need to get it sorted a bit sharpish.

good evening, wondering if any of you knowledgeable folks could help with a suspension problem im having on a '97 citroen xantia 1.9td. basically the front or rear suspension will behave randomly. the car has just had it's accumulator sphere replaced, and the lhm fluid replaced. i have checked the white plastic clips are present on the linkages...

The grease will never get into the strut LHM internals. If that was the case, then LHM would have leaked out in the first place, because of the internal system pressure.

Due to the floods recently I had cause(greatly assisted by a Royal Mail van going a touch too fast considering the conditions) to swerve onto a grass mound on the nearside).Any other car,and it would have meant a garage recovery but being a Citroen, I was able to lift and drive off the embankment.Other than chunks of grass stuck in the frame etc...

Yes, that'll be the leakage return. Very low pressure and no need for unions. At worse the T will be cracked or just a pipe a little dislodged or damaged. A nice simple repair :wink:

i have a leak coming from inside the rubber guitar on the rear right suspension arm (the part the sphere is connected to), is there a way to fix it or should i replace the whole arm?

Well, thank you all for your help, today i replaced the part with a used one, with the work the whole thing cost me 300 nis which is around 35 pounds.
The pressure seal was the faulty part.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but from my understanding, an intercooler is a radiator for the hot compressed inlet gases.

If the intercooler was leaking, would there be any indication?

Before I tightened all jubilee clips, I noticed oily drips would seep from the inlet joints, indicating the presence of oil (from the breather?) in the air inlet...

It'll pump exhaust back into the engine crankcase and it'll then leak far worse than it does now.

You could try and improve the oil separation - by for example passing the crankcase fumes into a suitably baffled can with a baffle system inside. If the fumes are directed at a plate at right angles to them they may drop the oil. If the chamber were...

Now that my Xantia is dead I need to start fixing my Escort. I can't seem to find the online equivalent of GSF or Euro car parts for Ford though.

Any ideas?

On my Xantia as i turn left and the weight shifts to the right hand side of the car I seem to have some instabillity. Also the drivers side rear where the weight shifts has an odd wear pattern mostly around the outside edge.The pressures are all fine that was my first check.

I discovered yesterday that my 2002 Xsara HDi VTR is soaking wet inside, but only on the driver's side (front and rear footwells). The left hand side is bone dry. Before I start the horrible task of trying to locate the potential leak, I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and could point me towards a potential...

My 1995 M xantia 1.8i has failed MOT on top strut mounts. how difficult are they to replace. i have been told they are citroen part only at £130 each.

I bought a XM with a failed strut top. I changed the entire strut and top in the guys front garden. Put it on the trailer and went home. Not too difficult at all. Have you checked for second hand ones prices? I got 2 complete struts and tops for less than £90 from a member of XM-L group.

Hi,
Has anyone had a rev counter shoot all the way round clock and stayed there-stuck. The speed did this at same time, only that went back to zero. When I tried to start car on Sunday, the battery was nearly flat--it gave enough go to flick the gauges on impulse. Can you get rev counters seperate from rest of clocks.?

Hi All,
Thanks for replies and thank you Clogzz for the link-which helped sort problem out.
I disconnected battery, turned ignition on, then reconnected battery---Voila, problem solved. Not before I drilled tiny hole in instrument panel, then flicked needle, which did not flick back. :cry:

My 2.0 HDi leaks fuel when filled full only, from around the access ring at the top of the tank (pump etc.)... is there a replaceable seal for this? Does the ring just unscrew?

I thought that some of you guys would be interested in the sequal to the fuel tank leak on my Xantia HDi estate...

Upon removing the large (5 ) threaded clamp ring on top of the tank (under rear seat), it became clear that in the past the lift pump had been changed, and the green 'O' ring had not been re-seated correctly, resulting in fuel...

anybody know if the engine mount nearest the cam belt is the same on a xantia td xud as on the bx td i have been in touch with gsf and they only list a bx one but they thought they were the same but wernt positive thanks

From reading here i assume it's a H/C problem, but i want to get your advise about it first:

it's a 2.0L 16V 1996 not Hydractive 2, all the spheres have been replaced within the last 6 months, they are good.
the suspension is a bit hard - i feel every bump on the road and it's not as smooth as a 'normal' citroen.
about the ride height - i think that while driving, the car is raised and that's how it feels.

hi guys my 95 td xantia blows black smoke from the exhaust when i give her a bit of wellie cars done 160000 has jus had new filters and oil any ideas on the possible cause?maybe injectors or possibly turbo seals?car uses minimal oil between services.thanx

Now if you could pump in cool, damp air to complement the amount of diesel injected in all conditions you'd have quite a setup.

Coming within the next 3 or 4 years, I should imagine: water injection systems are starting to appear on big diesel engines in the states to keep emissions down, and i don't suppose it'll be long before the technology...

If I drive my Xantia over 60 mph it starts to overheat, below 60 the car always stays about 80 degrees, even in stop and go traffic but as soon as it goes over 60mph the temperature starts to rise and the only way to cool it down is to slow to 60 or below. Unfortunately the answer to that is simple, particularly if you have a TD. And the answer is a boiled engine and possible head gasket failure. Cooling problems need sorting with urgency! For the sake of a few quid, buy a new thermostat anyway. You'll have the coolant out to flush the system so there is no point in not changing the thermostat at...

Can someone tell me if the rollbar droplinks GSF do for the Xantia (for £11.50) are original or pattern parts ? If the latter are they good quality ?

I remember reading a while back people having problems with some pattern parts droplinks wearing out extremely quickly but I don't recall if it was the GSF ones or not.

I drive a 1997 2.1 SX.
Last night the ABS light came on and off intermittently, now it's on all the time.
I have a feeling there could me dirt on one othe sensors or a broken reluctance ring. Also, the brake pedal is pulsing when you come slowly to a stop, even though the wheels are not locked up.

Ive got a p reg xantia td 1.9lx

For a few weeks, im getting random whailing noises when im driving. If i stop, and start the car again its gone. Its appearing randomly and is very strange.

Any ideas? Seems to be coming from the engine. Also, sometimes latley ive swtiched the ignition off after driving and the car kind of takes a second or 2...

Just put the 1.9D in for it's MOT, and it's flown through for the second year running - with no advisories!

On a veggie oil note tho, I put it in running on around 95% veggie oil, and the emissions test came up as 0.3. Last year on std diesel it came up on 1.5ish. Not bad eh ;)

My passesnger side door on my M reg (1995) xantia 1.8i won't open from the outside. Any suggestions before I go taking the door card off. it does open from the inside ok. Thanks in advance.

thats happened to my car before, on mine there is a link rod from the handle and the spring clip had come off, you will need to remove the door card to gain access.

I have the front top cover off but the rear top one is stuck by the turbo pipe please tell me i dont need to remove this.
I have bolt on covers with all bolts removed but the rear cover will not come past this pipe.I dont like to force it and i cant see how to loosen the pipe as i cant get any tools down the back of the engine bay.

Well i do like a challenge. I have got all the covers back on now and the mount.
I hope tomorrow morning will not be too wet so i can fit the alt bracket and get the alt back on then the HP pump and alt belt. Its been a big job and its taken a while but it will have been fun if it all works in the end. I wonder how much money i have saved by do...

Pre-MOT check of the ZX last night. It's only done 7k miles since the last MOT, and only 82k total - last year it needed NSF track rod end and bottom ball joint and NSR damper as the bush was shot. Since owning my xantia (several weeks now) I've always heard a subtle turbine noise as it spins up (like an aircraft) and was concerned when I read on this forum that they should be silent, thinking I may have a leak or worse
But recently, following an italian tune-up, on accelerating I now also hear another noise that sounds like the vanes...

i was having problems with my rear height corrector about 6ths ago, the small plastic link rod was coming off and the back end of the car was down, i replaced it with a new one and made sure the linkages were free and all has been well until today when it came off again, all the linages seem to be free i've heard of people stripping them to clean...

I've a bit of an issue with the gearchange in my Activa. This is the first car I've had with the cable operated ML5 'box.

Gear selection is generally OK but often it's a bit baulky going into third on down-changes, accompanied by a gentle crunch, particularly if I'm being a bit enthusiastic :) All other gears are fine but very occasionally,...

I want to change the LHM on my Activa and in the process run a dose of Hydraflush through the system.

Question is, where can I obtain some? Our local factors don't stock it (never even heard of it!) and we don't have a branch of GSF handy :( I don't really want to ask our local Citroen dealers as I expect it'll cost the earth!
