Xantia Mk1 key fob

Post by Martin Beevers »

Hi all,

I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and get a main dealer to re-program a new key fob for me. An hours labor.

My question is:- Does anyone know where I can get a new one at a reasonable price? The cheapest I've found so far is £100.

My local main dealer quoted me £180...

Ebay has quite a few at a time and are SOOOOOOOO easy to program

Yes EVEN you can program it, so dont go listening to the Stealer nonsense, it DOES NOT matter if the Key on the S1 Xantias is from another car, the reciver in the roof is a "Learning" reciver, and can be simply programmed to the PLIP...

Buy a IR - and make sure its an IR PLIP Like THIS ONE WILL BE PERFECT

Then get back in touch for programming instructions

Yeah, I got a replacement 1 from e bay a while ago, but I never had any joy in programming it.

The main dealers told me that they couldn't program it because the IR doesn't stay on when you press the front button.

Is this right? Or are they trying to get me to cough up for a new 1?

Paul, does yours work like mine? Or does the IR stay on when the button is pressed?

You can test the IR in a digital camera, be it either on your mobile phone or a proper DIGITAL camera,

Switch the camera on as to take a photo, then point your PLIP into the camera, the LED at the front,NOT the red one on the top, and press the button, you can see the WHITE Infra red light flash if it works...

Martin, GSF still stock genuine Citroen key fobs for early Xantia's

They programme like has been said...point the fob at the reciever, keep the button pressed and within seconds its done...(there may be more to it than that....thats how i remember it anyway and i did mine myself)

You dont need to go to a dealer that i know of

P.s. The GSF ones were about £50 from memory but they are genuine Citroen ones

You NEED to have the original ignition key JUST to have the ignition on..

The Ebay ones, are genuine keys too really vince... Sorry to "unplug" you.. :?

If you have the original key in the ignition, then program the new plip you can then after swap the Blade over..

Best check the IR Beam in a Digital camera first.

Yeah, I have checked the key using my digital camera like mentioned, and all ok.

I have been told that because the IR doesn't stay on (just flashes with the button depressed) that it can't be re programmed. Is this tosh?

I have tried many times with all available procedures, with no luck.

Paul, I bought that 1 from e bay last night, £12 with postage. At that price I thought I'd have to give it a go.

Yes that is TOSH! It does only flash, and its in that small time it flashes it sends the data.. It could be the roof reciver, I have found in the past they seem to only take in so many keys and wont take any more in..

If this is the case give me a shout Ive pleanty of xantia roof recivers, I can send you one..

You NEED to have the ignition switched onto POSITION 2 IE: So the heater plugs have operated, then send the key, keep it pressing fast for a few seconds..

Then ignition off, leave a moment and try..

The chances are if you cant reprogram the plip yourself the dealers wont be able to.

Change the receiver & go from there, if that doesnt work then check the wiring to the reciever the permanent 12v had failed on mine.

Paul,
I have a couple of fobs to try and program now. I'm still having no luck.

I have tried a few different ways that I have heard on this forum and others.

Can you guide me through this please?

Ok,

Use your old key in the ignition. Switch on the ignition on to position two - IE: So the heater plugs activate and ALL ignition lights are lit on the dash..

Then with a new plip, point it right up at the "Dome" above the rear view mirror and press the forward lock button a few times quick quickly... and do it within 10seconds of switching the ignition on...

Then switch off the ignition and try.. if you still cant , I HAVE had roof recivers that WONT take any more keys, and as I said Ive got some roof recivers here that would possibly work..

It really is as easy as that. If you have no luck send me you address via a PM and Ill get one off to you..

Regards
