Alarm problems

Hi,
I have had the alarm turned off (under the bonnet) ever since the key fob stopped working.

The other day the alarm sounded when I started the old girl up in the morning, (a bit embarrassing) it sounded twice then stopped.

It doesn't happen all the time, but more often than not.

I had the battery checked today and all is good.

Any ideas?

It might tell you something, but it might just be pining for a keyfob.

You could try disconnecting the battery for a while to reset the alarm. It will probably set off the alarm when you reconnect the battery, but switching on the ignition should shut it up.

If it were me, I would get a keyfob off Ebay.

I've got a couple waiting to be re-programed. I'm waiting on a new receiver because I can't seem to program either fob. (I tested both fobs with a digital camera and all OK.)

Not really on a S1 other than you can see whether the door locks are closed "electrically", if it was a S2 a Lexia records the last 15 causes of the alarm being set off.

Hi Martin
Disconnect the battery (find/keep the radio code first

) and leave for maybe 10-15 mins. Before you reconnect the battery turn the key in the ignition to the start(2nd) position.When you reconnect the battery the alarm will be reset and not activated

If you are having trouble with the alarm in general check that both door pillar lights come on when the door is opened as a dodgy connection at these lights can lead to the alarm misbehaving.
Also check that the passenger footwell is not wet as the alarm ecu/box lives down there and water can also play havoc

On S1 cars, DO NOT FORGET to ALSO hold and Alarm Reset Button on the dash AS YOU TURN the ignition on.... its the one with a sounder with a cross through it, on the RIGHT side of the steering colum..

Hi Paul

On S1 cars i think the button you are refering too only disables the volumetric sensors that are located in the front by the wing mirrors.I believe that this is a feature that allows you to set the alarm whilst leaving the windows open slightly.
whenever i have the battery off i always have the key turned to position 2 before i reconnect and ive never had a problem with the alarm sounding/activating but again i only have experience of S1 Xantias

That is for S2 cars... the button on S1 cars DOES RESET the alarm Trust me...

Your correct though as far as S2 cars are concerned it switches the sounder off so when you arm the car it doesn't go off...

In saying that, Ive never reconnected a battery with the ignition ON, I always have the ignition OFF when I re connect the battery...

Ignition off, disconnect battery, reconnect, hold button switch key on and watch the indicators flash ...

S2, no needto do anything, reconnect battery and carry on as normal..

Although i must admit to reading somewhere that you can reset the alarm by turning the ignition on and pressing the aforementioned button im going to be stubborn and standby my original diagnosis that the button is also there to disable the volumetric sensors if you wish to set the alarm and leave the windows open

Off to find the crash helmet and run for cover

I scanned this from my Xantia's owners handbook.

After re-setting my alarm, all seems to be ok.

Thanks for all your help. I just have to get the fob programmed now.
