Xantia Hdi extra noise

Unread post by rmunns »

I really can't pin this down..........................

Low mileage (45000) well serviced, no issues except this noise which seems to come on when he car is hot. But not always.

Only hear it when idling. It is as if a fairly noisy fan is running as well as the engine. Not been able to find any action that changes the noise (depressing clutch, applying brake pedal, switching aircon on) and it seems that increasing engine revs does not change the 'fan' speed or whatever it is.
Switching engine off immediately stops the noise.

Can anyone suggest please what this might be?[/u]

Sounds like your rad cooling fans coming on when hot. Lift the bonnet when it happens to check.

Whats the noise??

Is it like a rattly Clutch Release bearing?? But louder?

If so then Crank pully, Ive just had this on a HDi 110bhp, changed it for another and as quiet as a mouse!

ALSO checkable, if you remove the Aux belt and it stops then defenatly the pully, as removing the load of the HP Pump, altinator and Air Con compressor stops the play in it the pully..
