Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

What does the rear centre shpere do on my HDi Xantia estate (non Hydractive)? Isn't this the anti-sink thingy? Just had mine changed, and the rear one was labelled 'Accumulator' on the bill. I thought that this was the centre front one - they didn't change the centre front one...

Was mooching around a nearby car auction and noted a C5 estate, 2.2hdi, I think it was an SX, but didn't look in the logbook, it is a 2001 51 plate. In met green, few scuffs on bumpers, and a dent on nsf wing(hardly noticable) front discs are nearly new and had a nice set of michelins all round. I did a rear sphere change about 3yrs ago and they are now getting hard, but I did a front sphere change about 2-3 months ago and that now also feels hard. It was really good when i did the front but it has soon gone hard again?
Would it be time for a hydraflush? Have I got duff spheres from GSF?

I heard a hissing noise from one of the tyres on the Xantia last night, and suspected the valve was duff.

I took it roiund the corner to the above mentioned depot, and they told me to leave it with them.

The remote also has a red LED near the rubber button cover, and that should give an indication of what the supply side is doing.
The problem with those batteries is that they always put out 3 Volts, even when flat.

The front end of my car often drops on start up. It doesnt gradually drop but just drops on turning the key as it fires up!! it also makes noise. Is this normal?

It seems that when many garages say they've replaced the spheres, they only mean the suspension ones fitted to the corners of the car, and forget about the others (course you won't notice the a/s or accumulator sphere being a bit low in the same way as you would the suspension spheres so they can get away with it)

Hi,
I have measured 3 sensors to be 1080 ohm. The RHB (pin 29 and 31) shows a reading of 150-180 Ohm. Is this sensor broken or should I check the wiring? In case this sensor is broken, how difficult is it to get access to it and replace it?

What are the 1.9d's like in comparison to td's?

I know the BHP figures are lower but are they still as reliable, and what average mpg do you get back? Didnt someone say they were more economical than the td's

How much pressure can i expect at normal running temperature? Mine hasnt got any pressure at all, which is pointing at the expansion tank cap being faulty which should help ease the temperature gauge going up this time of year.... seen it hit 90 but only after severe thrashing and most of the time it sits just below 80, and lower with the A/C....

I have a 97 xantia with air con, the hyd pump seems to be out of line, and as a result my belt only lasts a couple of thousand miles, my question is could it have the wrong sprocket on, also is there a way to ajust the pump, as I say its only 1/8 out but its enough to cut one ribs worth of belt,there is the number 2.02 on the top of the pump and I...

Posted a while ago regarding a strange noise I was getting from the Xsara when I moved the wheel from stationery .
At the time I wasn't sure where it was coming from.
Have since found one of the Drop Links was on it's way out replaced that but still get the Noise to a certain extent.
Had another look and one of the Top Strut mount bearings....

How do you blokes stop getting green stuff everywhere when bleeding the brakes? I filled up with hydraflush today which all went well apart from the brake bleeding bit. I just can't seem to get a good seal on the nipple so the fluid just squirts everwhere. Is there a special pipe needed or am I just incompetent (most likely)?

I use the overflow pipe from the LHM reservoir when I bleed my brakes. It is a good fit and provided that you do not undo the nipple to far, or too fast, it stays on.

I was in a garage the other day, and the owner was telling me some horror stories about using these jump start packs.
Apparently on the Vectra 2.2, if you use one, it'll 'spike' the ECU, probably beyond repair. They managed to reset it via the diagnostics in his case, but he was very lucky apparently. Only affects this particular engine in the...

Presume this doesn't apply to non fitted ECU cars, such as my AX GT? You still have electronic ignition units and any radio/alarm fitted. These are prone to suffer the same defects.
Even your alternator may blow up from such unfortunate events.
(but commonly the load may make them stall for a second with a squealing belt)

I recently posted on here that since I had a new cam belt and water pump fitted that my xantia now gets hot very quickly. Its fine when driving along but as soon as I get stuck in traffic it gets hot very quickly. hi, i have just bought a citroen berlingo forte 1.9 diesel,
everything seems fine ,but when i went for a drive today the brake fluid level warning light on the dash came on every few hundred yards,and beeps i have checked the fluid level and toped it up but still get the same problem it is intermitent and the stop light on the dash does not light...

Hey all,

I've noticed a strange thing with the new car. Sometimes when the engine is hot it wont always start straight away. It will churn over for 4-5 seconds and then start. When the engine is turning over the rev counter needle will quickly and only once flick up to 1200 rpm and then when the engine starts it reads 0 and the engine sounds...

Hi,
My activa, although now not getting hot, (thanks DickieG!) does not go as well as I think it should.

It will pull well, when accelerating hard in one gear, but when you change up, it seems to lose its urge, almost as if the turbo is not working.
It also misfires slightly under load.

Now there are a fair number of us here running Activas, how's your fuel economy looking?

I ask as on Tuesday I ran mine down to Somerset and back, the first good run it has had in months. I went the A34/A303 route and carefully observed speed limits as there are so many mobile traps around that are very much active during the week :evil:...

Hi,
Am having fun and games with the drivers window regulator on my 99 activa.
The problem is that the little grey plastic clip that holds the glass to the regulator (with the two cables) and slides up and down the metal slide of the regulator, has broken.
Now you would think that this would be easily available from citroen, but no- you can only...

Struck lucky at the scrap yard, there was a mk2 xantia there, with a regulator with a broken cable, so the clip was mine!
Just finished putting it back together, and it works, unlike my knuckles which are now distinctly lacking in skin!

Having read a few articles on driving economically (at £1.30 a litre for diesel who hasnt????) I have taken off the spare wheel and cage, cleared the boot and took out the rear seats complete as its only used by me 99% of the time, Reduced cruising speed from 70-75 to 55-58mph and I`m slip streaming hgv`s, saiitng in the clean air behind them....

Hi all,
The drivers side strut ( The one you can see going up under the wheel arch ) on my 02 C5 HDI has been wet under the plastic sleeve which covers part of it, for the last while now.
I am assuming this is a hydraulic fluid leak from somewhere, possibly a seal.
Anyone got any ideas on where or what to look for?

I read somewhere that this tends to happen the C5 if the car (suspension) is low in LDS fluid. Check your level - I think this check is carried out with the suspension lowered completely

That sphere will be fine.

The only proper way to test is to pop it on a test rig, I could do that for you but it's pointless as the shelf life of a sphere is more or less untill it rusts through.

A friend of mine has a 309td with a leaking fuel primer which I think is integral with the filter housing. Is it possible to repair them? If not where can I get a replacement?

Car will spin over well on starter motor, but doesn't fire. If you disconnect the crank sensor and reconnect it, it goes. It doesn't describe that as a regular starting procedure in the handbook. What can be wrong, apart from a bad connection at the sensor?

It may be worth taking the sensor out and cleaning any crud or whiskers on the pick-up on the sensor. If there are any whiskers on the sensor and they are metallic, it may well point to another problem. As Anders said, an new unit may work wonders. :o

The plastic tubes in question are the leakage returns from both rear suspension cylinders. You may find the very same pipes attached to the rear cylinders rubber bellows rearmost (on car).
There is only the LHM seepage past the piston seals from the suspension cylinders to be found in these plastic tubes.

My 1989 xantia 1.9td estate Citroen couldnt find the pulleys for so they modded the brackets and fitted 2 c5 pulleys and a dirty great shock absorber behind the fuel pump attached to the back of the top pulley which also became part of the tensioning system, now i have two tensioners instead of one half way down the side of the engine.

Has anyone swapped a Lucas Epic pump on a Xantia 2.1TD at all?
