Petrol to DERV Conversion Xantia Estate

Post by citroenxm »

Hi all

CAR: !996 P reg, Xantia 1.8 8v Petrol > XUD Turbo D...

Ive taken on the job of this conversion, much to opening ym mouth.. any way, the mechanical side is almost done, engine in, drive shafts on, all connected up, still need to do exhaust, and Rad.. however Firstly..

Im trying to get the Rad Fans working correctly..

The car being a 1996 P reg, has Air con as standard, well did, Ive removed it due to no Air con oil sump for XUD.. so of course when I switch key on, the Fans run full SPEED....

The XUD is out of a NON Air con car... so I thought, ohhh easy, swap the fans for the Rad Switch'd fans, so I did, but they wont run correctly.. Ive compared them to mine in my L reg (Same setup) and all wiring is correct. The Fans do work, as Ive applied 12v to the appropiate pins on the Relays and they run, how ever, if I short the Rad switch nothing...

So, I thought tonight if I re fit the original fans what do I need to add to the XUD to make the fans run correctly??? Is it the Absence of the Brown sensor from the Thermostat house??

Any one help / throw ideas?? Thanks

Paul

Why not ignore the original wiring completely, and switch the fans with a relay run from an ignition-controlled supply via the temp switch?

Ive engineered a solution!!

I re fitted the Air Con controlled fans.. and yes, again, they ran with the battery connected, HOWEVER, when I removed F5 from the engine bay fuse box, they stopped running...

So my solution, fit the Rad Temp Switch - as fitted to non air con models, and run the switch output to the fuse box!! So when it switch's the fans run! Simple!

Thanks to Dnsey which influenced the solution Im to use!
