2.1td into 1.9td???

Unread post by davetherave »

With my apparent cambelt failure on the xantia I need an engine, and i thought why not pop a 2.1td in! Does anyone know if this is as simple as it sounds or would i need any extra bits?
Cheers
Dave

Dave,

Ive a 1.9td which has had a Laminated Gasket Head Job done on it...

Fancy the whole car??? Its in an M reg Xantia, which does drive and runs VERY well, the body is a night mare at the rear has killed the car!

Or else, if you go 2.1 you'll need wiring loom, ECU, lots of plumbing, you'll also need the suspension turret modified for the Tourque link mount to be fitted, like HDi's and Activas.. you be better putting a 1900 back in..

Anyway, its there, if you want it..

Dave,

It's not an easy job at all :( The 2.1TD is almost entirely different, even down to the bodyshell and front wings (in a MK1 at least) I have an idea the MK2 bodyshell may be OK for it but honestly, that's the least of your worries.

The gearbox is different; the 2.1TD uses the ML5 with hydraulic clutch, the driveshafts, brakes and hubs are different, even the handbrake cables.

That's not to mention the colling system which uses the V6 header tank.

Then if you were to retain the Lucas EPIC pump, huge electrical difficulties...

All in all, a non-starter really. Simpler to fix your 1.9TD or drop in a known-good engine.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings :(
