is it possible to adjust the fuel mixture on a citroen synergie 1.9 td,i have large amounts of sooty black smoke when going up hills.also if you make it labour just before boost it is quite bad aswell.i am sure it is using more fuel aswell,i dont know if has been messed with before my ownership

You could probably adjust it but it might not actually cure your problem.

First things first, ensure the air filter is not really dirty, a clogged filter or restricted air intake pipe will cause black smoke.

i had a lot of problems with my synergie regarding black smoke and found after a good service most of it cleared up i allso found running it on svo cleared the rest
Yipee i have the xant lets i hope i keep her this time

I'd agree with both Andy and Tom, don't go fiddling with the pump until a good and proper full service has been carried out first.

In fact, if you don't understand exactly what you're doing and you have reasonable grounds to believe the pump has been tampered with, take it to a person with the required skills.

One adjustment in particular can kill your engine at MOT time or on a missed gear if incorrectly adjusted.

Pumps don't ever just go out of adjustment. Exclude every other possibility first.

citroen synergie xud fuel pump

on the top of the pump i presume there was at some time a tamperproof cap covering a lock nut and torq screw,it appears to have been messed with as the star shaped torq looks twisted,somebody has suggested it might need the pump setting up with a dti guage?

Ah the fun/smoke screw!
13mm lock nut and a T27 torx.
If it's screwed down then it gives more oomph but more smoke.
