Bushes

Post by dieseldoggy »

Hi just been poking underneath when checking pads. The rubber bush on end of wishbone where rack and crossmember are is looking abit fraggled? abit of movement.

Can you change that bush or is it a new wishbone?
Has used to be able to get from proflex etc in ureathane to replace when i had fords.well building my sierra.

Did cross my mind to fill voids init with tiger seal.(polyureathane mastic stuff)
Sim to what they use to put screens in with then leave for few days to go off?

Well it worked on jag bumpers when all the bolts sheared off and stuck on and still on 8 odd years ago

Funny you should say that I reckon that anbody doing urethane replacement bushes for a C5 could do very well, unfortunately hava not found anybody.

As regards mastics / rubber thought about that too the other day when looking at a product called CT1, glues anything to anything and has a reasonably hard modulus of elasticity trouble is most rubber bushes have variable directional compliances so I guess one would have to work out where to put a lot of mastic in and where to put less :-). Decided to try it out on the cracked soles of a pair of shoes I have first :-)

Hi to be honest i wasn't to worried about that more on doing mot first then change if need be later.
Pro-flex plus a few others make those bushes they can also make to size/spec and shore hardness for you.
My sierra was fully poly bushed and drove like a Kart so responsive like on rails.
Used to do the M25/M11 split from anti clock onto m11 south bound at near 90

They're not really bushes on the Xantia - they're more pivot points. The flex in the bush actually provides the rotation for the wishbone. If you went a soid bush, you'd have no suspension movement.... be just like driving a German car

You can get them from Citroen for £35 each or around £17 each from a factors.

I bought two on eBay including delivery for £35 last week.

I realised when I got them though that they need pressed onto the wishbone and the angle that they go on at is critical. Unfortunately our press is out of commission at the moment so I had to return them and change the who wishbones at a cost of £61 a side.

Are they pressed onto end of arm or into large metal bit that goes round bush then i think bolts to cross memeber?
Need to see/find a diagram to have a gander.

Alot of bushes etc are standard size as most manufacturers like to have a rootsey in parts bin? but there is exceptions? I'E french cars lol.

BL used to just turn everything round on a new motor (yep that will do?)

And if it wern't for the japs we would still be riding BSA bantams.

With the polybushes the movement is on the S's sleeve in middle
one on arm is a void bush with open parts either side to give it some flex/movement/compliance.

What's wrong with that - my Bantam was great fun, and taught me a lot about stripping and rebuilding engines :D

I know we are off topic but I couldn't help adding that I read recently that the Bantam was a German design taken in 'recompense' after the war.. talk about the Japs nicking our ideas!!!

They (complete bushes, including outer steel jacket) are pressed onto machined stubs which form part of the arm forging.

The original yamaha design was an english guy who couldn't get any backing here so took it to japan.
