Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I have just sent my ecu away for unlocking, Bosch MP5.1.1. The guy who is unlocking it told me that it has a faulty EEPROM but there is no extra cost to what I have already paid. He also asked if it came from a car with the keypad, I have told him it did but im not 100% sure. so does anyone know if the xantia 2.0 16v from 1996 had a keypad?...

I know there's been lots of posts on this subject, but.

Currently, what's the definitive headlamp bulb to use in my Xantia Mk1 to improve the lighting, Phillips, Osram, Halfords own brand or what?
I'm fed up of guessing where the kerb is on wet unlit roads. I'll get it wrong one day (or night)!

Wife's XUD 1.9 Xant's alarm has somehow activated, and will not switch off with the ign key. Problem includes no pre-heat whilst activated, so I need a quick way to de-activate it ASAP. The car is fitted with immoboliser key key pad, but the inj pump has been castrated, so this poses no probelm.

HELP!!!!!! (please).

This should be in the Peugeot Forum.........But more likely to get an answer in here.

A mate has a intermittent problem with his dash board lights going on and off .

But now are permanantley off.

The car is a 2001Peugeot 206 gti.

Any help will be gratefull.

Check the dimmer rheostat. It sometimes goes a bit intermittent. Wiggle it and rotate it from high to low bringhtness and see if that provokes the problem.

Sad news....I pass a really nice clean example Xantia 1.8 16v LX on the way to work..Y reg MK 2 to be precise. The car is parked on the road, and somebody has hit it in the drivers rear quarter, ripping the bumper off, and really creasing the whole rear quarter.....looks to me to be a economical write off due to it's age and extent of damage...but...

I have now bought a 2000 (UK) Xantia 2.0HDi SX. It's done around 125000 miles and, although it has a couple of niggly bits I intend to get round to - the suspension is the most requiring of time and rectifying.

When I stop the engine, the rear end sinks quite quickly - usually as I am just walking away. This is often accompanied by a groaning...

I have the feeling that my front airbag light is flashing because of the connection in the steering wheel....does anybody know what this part is called, that connects the airbag, and assume the steering wheel radio controls to the steering column loom..... I am not sure if the buttons on the wheel work or not, as i don't have standard radio...

Do ALL xantia's use the same air filter? Even petrol and diesels as i've seen a few engine bays and the airbox's look pretty much the same but im just thinking of getting a K&N one to save myself some money in the long term for the miles the cars i have cover?
Also same for oil filters as i have some in the garage that i have had for past TD's,...

I've had my centre console out 2 times on a Xantia and disconnecting the brake cable was the only way I could think of to free up the lever enough to pull the console over it.

It was easy enough to disengage the handbrake cable. So easy that I'd do it the same way if I have to remove the console again.

I don't like giving handbrakes a good hard...

Im sure i have seen someone say that 1.9td's never came in exclusive trim and that i had seen some for sale and on the road....

well here we go....

Speaking of rare Xantias, I saw one on a 51 plate a few weeks ago.
I think it was a fairly run of the mill 1.8i 16V, certainly it was a petrol engine, and the owner clearly wondered why I was staring at his car!, but I don't recall having seen one beyond Y reg before.

Hi Everybody, could somebody please tell me, are the rear wheel bearings for a bx 1.9 rd estate the same as the rear wheel bearings on a Xantia mark one saloon? The reason I ask is my near side bearing on my bx is getting a bit loud and i want to replace it, but when I went to GFS they don't stock this part for the bx anymore but they do stock the...

BX rear wheel bearings comes as a complete Hub assembly only as the bearing races can not be removed from inside the hub.
Genuine part no 3701.42

The same hub assembly is used on some other PSA models :
The first series Xantia non-ABS, C15, 405 & 405restyle (non-ABS).
And even some older models no longer listed.

You will also need the 3726.14...

Hoping to be doing this within the next month. Is there anything I should know?

I have finally got my hands on a BoL that covers the HDi engine and it looks fairly complex but I would like to give it a go myself. My understanding is that the idler pulley and tensioner is included in the kit that GSF sell, is this correct?...

For example the EGR system on the C5 is inside a water jacket that feeds the heater, I guess this speeds up the heater warming as the EGR is normally used at low revs/part throttle when the engine will be slow to warm up.

My Xsara has this too, and I have found since disconnecting the EGR the coolant is slightly slower to warm up in cold weather.

Hi Gang,

Silly question time, has anyone stripped a Pinion vale down apart from Martin @ Pleiades, how do you remove it from the rack and does anyone have a copy of the diagram from the citroen service site.

Second point, my rack would appear to have had fitted 2 different track rod end ball joints as there is 2 different isze nuts, any reason...

After a conversation with Martin @ Pleiades I will get a recon Pinion valve and fit same onto my rack.

Will replace the T/E ball joints with new but looking for a source for N/S gaiter, GSF don't do it for later xantias.

any ideas what would cause the pump to click every 12 secs i thought it was the front accumulator sphere at fault so replaced it but still the same.
any thoughts on what to look at next ?
its a 2.0hdi s reg xantia and has 8 sphere system (has the sports suspension button)

how the doooh dar dose one get this flipin cam belt on, just finnishing off a head job whooooops i mean head repair on a P reg 1.8 16V xant, ended up getting a belt kit and even though the belt has the same amount of teeth as the old one, it just seems slightly to short, 136 teeth on both belts, im convinced i have taken up all the avalible slack...

yes but only by fitting the excentric adjuster, i found this to be approx 2mm smaller which alowed the belt to go on easily

Hi all

The pressure reg on my BX is pressurising the octopus low pressure return, and every now and again the octopus pops one of its limbs off somewhere, today I finally got around to tracing the problem to the pressure reg, the low pressure overflow return emits a large squirt of fluid at quite high pressure after every 'click' of the pressure...

Ive now got 3 Xantia S2 Headunits that are completely blocked from incorrect code entry..

I Have the correct codes, but failed to remember it for the matter of not removing it from the dash to get the code - written on the back.

I've had problems with the front and rear screen washers on my ZX for years and I was wondering whether anybody else had the same problems and whether there's a cure.

The problem is erratic operation. Sometimes, when I use the front washers, the water comes out of the rear washer. Other times, when I use the rear washer it comes out of the front...

I suppose it could be an electrical fault. I never thought of that (even though I'm an electronics engineer). I had to change the indicator stalk switch some time ago so I suppose the wiper stalk switch might be dodgy too. It's something I can look at anyway.

Hi ALL

Ive a Xantia Heater matrix to replace for a customer...

Its a T plate, 1998 HDi, and still has its original screen... I CANNOT for the life of me get the scuttle off to get at the 3/4 dash screws....

Its got the original heavy duty mastic on it.. any tips for removal.. I thought about applying heat with a heat gun or hair dryer.....

Well funny you should ask! :lol:

I have about 4 bolts left! :shock: These are from the centre of the dash, were the steel bars bolt together... I put all the centre dash back in before realising I had not put them back..

After bolting the two above the colum, and the two side ones, and the two above the drivers legs area, it was sound enough...

Hi Malcolm at al, we are talking about gearbox oils which are a different kettle of fish to engine oils.

Engine oils are designed to provide a means to transmit heat away from wear surfaces, and as such rely on their viscosity under different temperature ranges.

Gearbox oils are designed to provide protection to wear surfaces, not only by heat...

I'm not overly concerned about it, but I've noticed what to me seems like quite a bit of whitish smoke from the exhaust when first starting.

Car has 74K, and is M reg 1995.

Any particular concerns over Xantias that smoke in this way?

I can confirm what Jim says about an air leak in the fuel pipes causing white smoke on startup, as I've got that on my ZX. I would check along the length of your fuel pipes and joints to see if there's any diesel leaking. However sometimes you can get an air leak in but there's no diesel leaking out.

Running good old veggie loving engines though.

Just spotted its my cars little brother/sister being scrapped as well. Doesn't say why though but ill ask the seller anyhoo...

i have a 1999 xantia2.1 td. it has 70,000 miles on clock. i have owned it for a month or so. the car has been well maintained, and looks good.My question is, why am i feeling every crack in the road, or manhole covers etc. i thought these had a very comfy ride. thanks Tom.

..also the tyre pressures and wear have quite a marked effect on rough surfaces. All hydropnumatics tend to ride poory over small bumps at low speed but it improves markedly as your speed increases.

Hi,
Anyone know alternative motors for the above. My local scrappies haven't got anything suitable.

Been looking on ebay - many cit/pugs have a very similar looking motor unit (could prise body of motor off gear mech & swap) and at least some Xantias appear to have the same gear mechon a different mounting plate.

Thanks for the reassurance that the motors are pretty much similar.

I reckon I can free my self from the constraint of the mounting plate if necessary - I've dismantled the motor assembly by drilling out the pins holding the lid on the gear casing and prised open the lugs holding the motor casing on enabling the armature to be removed:...

hi there got a xantia 2.1 1998 great car .. but started to develop few problem now .. drive along normal drivin then suddenly go to change up gear and the car cut s out the speedo revs up then down to 0 and the management light comes on so come to a stop then try starting again and away she goes but no manage light on but cant rev past 3000. if do...

got car runnin now. changed the leak off pipes and the blanker 1 all the fuel hose on engine side any way. found the leak from filter housing so replacement now on, and found that boost solinoid was faulty and broken so got one of those. thanks citroenjim you was most helpful as well as rest. still interestedin changing to bosch pump stuff.this...

Any CE approved headlamp bulb (single filament) will consume a rated power of 55W at the rated bulb filament voltage of 13.25V (makers design requirements).

I have my front wheel alignment all messed up and hence ruined my two front tyres which were 195/55 R15 (standard size). Being a cheepy, visited a garage that sells part worn ones, he did not have the standard size, but offered to replace all 4 with 185/65 R15 Dunlops. The tyres were pretty good nick, so went for it.

The drivers side manual window regulator has broke and I've been trying to find a replacement for a while now. Havn't seen any 3DR ZXs being broken up at all only 5DR. Hi all

Are damping valves the same apart from the central restriction hole - orifice?

Or is the arrangement of the washers different.

In other words can you take a sphere with a .6mm diameter orifice, from an hydractive XM or Xantia and drill it out to 1.5mm to suit - you guessed it - my BX.

I remember hearing of some people who wanted softer...

Well I had already drilled them out by the time i saw your extensive reply and they are much better,

yes the ride is much boatier but is also much closer to the original feel,

i did it mainly because i have a spare set of BX spheres which need regassing and i wont get around to it for a few weeks if not months so in the mean...

I saw one of these pass by me this afternoon and I'm pretty sure I've seen it once before so assume it's local...

It's not as pretty as the one in the pic but it's the same colour ( it looks a little tired and has some largish but shallow dents to the doors) and presumably road-legal. I noticed the reg has a block of four numbers, then two...

1/ On the front of the engine, behind the alternator, there is a spare 2 cable connector. I have looked, but can't see where it could go - on the alternator or elsewhere. Any ideas. Is this spare?

Are you familiar with the innards of these as there didn't seem much to go wrong, and no obvious springs anywhere.
There are a pair of floating plastic blocks containing a steel pin with a flat on each. These blocks are pressured by a pair of firm rubbery blocks when the assembly is crimped back together. Pic as usual...

Hi,
Just put the trim/instruments/glovebox back & came across this large piece for which I cannot find a home ! It is about a foot square with a slightly curved rubber seal on one side. Opposite side has a sort of handle recess in the middle.
It has a large squarish bulge in the middle with 2 x 1/4 turn release knobs. It's got a bit of mud on it...

Found it - it was the trim for the rear wiper. I investigated this when I didn't have time to start the speedo cable reassembly and got driven in by rain & cold.

Among my planned work was to sort the dead speedo out (and instrument bulbs). Having bought the 2 halves of the cable and fitted the lower one, I find that the speedo works. I was going to fit the top half whilst I've got the instrument panel out, but have found that (a) not only is it a pig of a job, (b) reading all the posts...

This function on my 52 reg Xsara 2.0 Hdi seems to have taken a mind of its own, operating when the function has not been selected. Has anyone any knowledge of this problem or how it can be fixed. Presumably its a fault with the stalk?

I have a number of Citroën special tool kits and not one of them comes with a manual as they are used in conjunction with the appropriate workshop manual for the relevant task. However if your set is the one I'm thinking of (replacing electrical connectors), as its more of a generic set and designed for professional use then no manual is required...
