Xantia alarm and central locking problem

Post by hamster »

My alarm has started to go off at random times for no apparent reason. It went off at 1.30am this morning which was really popular!

Also sometimes when i lock the car and dead lock it the boot doesn't lock but if i unlock and lock again it works fine.

Any idea on either of these problems?

Last year i disconnected the closing sensor for the boot lid as its mounting had broken and therefore it didn't always sense that the boot had shut properly so set the alarm off or wouldn't let it set at all so that kind or rules out the two problems being linked as far as i can work out

Take a close look at the latch on the boot lock, the hinge pin may be worn causing the microswitch not to operate, I had the same problem on my estate.

You can temperally sort the Siren out on S2 cars...

When you exit the car, with the door open, press and hold the "Siren Mute" button on the dash, the one with the Siren with cross through it, after a few seconds the RED LED on the door by the ultra sonic sensor will stay a solid red...

Close the door and lock the car, this disables the Alarm siren so you do not wake the neighbours up untill you find and fix the problem...

These strangely bizarre S2 Cars

I thought that button did the same as in a MK1 and disabled the ultrasonics but that's a better idea really.

How, in a S2, do you disable the ultrasonics then?

Sorry, I didn't clear that very well...

That button does that at the same time...

On an S2 when you connect the battery up, theres NO need to rush and cancel the alarm like you do on a S1 car...

Excellent Paul,

Thanks for the clarification :D

As a potential S2 owner soon I wished to know how to disable the hooter as I never set alarms for neighbourliness reasons (Note to potential theives: Our locality is guarded 24 hours a day by killer penguins).

The prospect of an S2 that sets its alarm by default every time it locks was causing me a little disquiet...

Tha's put my mind at rest now...

According to my recall of the manual (I can't verify it as my alarm doesn't respond) you defeat the ultrasonics with the ignition on, the siren with ignition off.

If the alarm works correctly just set it or if you want to turn it off completely on a S2 use a Lexia, try doing that on a late S1

If I don't want the alarm going off, I just dead lock the car with the key.

The same applies to a S2.

Juliet's in that position as she's set off her siren a couple of times while sat on the drive.
Don't want to upset the neighbours :)

Thankfully being a S2 the alarm ECU records the last 15 causes of what triggered the alarm, this is accessed via a Lexia, I'm not entirely sure of this but IIRC using a Lexia on an S2 you can permanently turn off just the siren or how its triggered i.e. sensors but don't hold me to that.

Xantia alarm and central locking problem

Post by Gregg1100 »

Re- the alarm bit. When I first had this S2 car, the alarm gave some trouble. I removed fuse F17 I think it was- no more trouble and neighbours aren't disturbed.
