Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I have recently has a new anti roll drop link and track rod end fitted to the front o/s (latter needed to pass MOT) and am now wondering if I should have the tracking/wheel alignment checked. I read on other threads about garages making a mess of this - so any recommendations or things to ask would be helpful.

If you look at the spec you will find that paralell is within tolerance, but its quite easy to adjust the the required tow in/out using this method. I have been doing it this way for around 30 years and and getting on for 1,000,000 miles and my tyres always wear evenly.

Ok, here are the symptoms for this head scratcher:

Car much too low. I used to get 10cm clearance from the top of the tyre to the wing cover. From a few days ago, this has halved. Worse, front suspension is hitting the bump stops on pretty much any irregularity. I've found out today that I can make it hit the bump by pushing the front down.

My best method :

Loosen all wheelbolts on stuck wheels, but ensure they will still keep the wheel to the hub.
Drive - very careful - a short trip round the block, while you take advantage of as many turns as possible to put side forces on the turning wheels.

Works every time.

the easyest way to tell the diferance between hydactive or not from under the bonnet, is the pipe type/diamiter hyractive stut feed pipe is made up of large diamiter reinforced rubber sections with short sections of 6mm metal pipe with 12mm pipe nuts, standerd susp has 3.5mm pipe with 8mm pipe nuts

Car is a 1997 Xantia 1.9TD

At the weekend it started making a tinkling noise from the belt area. At idle the noise disappeared when I turned the air con on, though there was still some noise at higher revs. I turned the centre of the pulley by hand and it does feel rough so I think it's fairly conclusive.

The question is, what can I do about it?...

Hi i have a 1999 xantia 2.0 HDI. Today the engine sounded very rough and at one point completely cut out but started again. An orange warning light on the dash board appeared, possibly a engine management light on the far left of dash board.

Any ideas? Is this terminal?

My diesel Xantia had the same sort of problem. Not wishing to be alarmist have you checked the cam belt? Mine had jumped a cog and was running like yours. Shortly afterwards the cambelt went through the cover and caused terminal damage.

I do hope you don't have the same problem.

Firstly apologies for being off the forum for so long. basically that dreaded thing Work and a particularly cold and wet winter here has prevented me from even looking at the car.

put a bid on this as a bit of a joke thinking i was bound to be outbid :(
i am assuming the problem is a sticky rear height corrector but i am happy to be corrected

no actually what i meant was moving the suspension from low to high the front goes up and down nicely but the back stays put ,except once when having a play around the back went all the way down and back up to normal height but would not go up to max.

Robin, this sounds like the height corrector is not a happy bunny. Is the white plastic link...

I think I've the standard blown transistor problem on the wife's car. She stalled the car a couple of days ago and then the blower came on full when she restarted it and stays that way until the car is switched off.

Two things, where is the best place to buy replacements and is there a current part number that is universal.

Hi all,

Having a few electrical woes with a 96 VSX TD xantia.

First off, the intermitent front wiper setting doesn't work, only constant settings seem to work, not sure why.

Air bag light keeps flashing on the dashboard whilst driving, most annying, not sure how I can stop this any ideas?

Plip remotes don't seem to work, new batteries...

The car has had some aftermarket alloys fitted, and i hate them!.

Citroen say it should have 15inch steel ones??

Has anyone got 4 steel wheels and 4 ORIGIONAL trims?

Hi,

I'd be quite surprised if a VTR had steel wheels originally, they always seem to have alloys. Nothing to stop you fitting steel wheels though if you prefer them, the LX spec Xsaras tended to have 15 steel wheels.

I'm looking for help clarifying which plug is which (other than the idle air controller).

There's a yellow one on top.

Then a whitish one underneath, and also (feels like) a greenish one, too.

One is the TPS. One is the IAT. What is the last of the three?

A couple of weeks ago the airbag light came on on the wife's car, it also shows the light underneath indicating that the passenger airbag has been turned off (as you can do with the key of the side of the dash).

Now obviously we haven't turned the passenger airbag off, although I did try turning off and on again in the vain hope that the light...

A colleague at work is on his second Peugeot. General opinion is that it's fantastic for what it is. Seems well built, a cheap to build car as opposed to a cheap built car? Hi, my aux drive belt snapped last night on my 1996 Xantia.

Trouble is I will have to work with my backside out in a busy road if I have to remove the wheel and wheel arch liner as Mr Haynes says.

Is it possible to slacken the alernator bolts and put on the new belt, then retension with the alternator rather that have all the wheel arch liner...

I got the belt from Halfords and believe that I have the correct one. I did double check after the bloke on the accessories desk looked it up on his computer then tried to give me the wrong one.

The phrase Xantia, err that's a Citroen isn't it ? Didn't instill much confidence, hence rechecking on their customer list.

Well this afternoon when i turned the engine off it seemed to run on for a couple of seconds. :?

Noticed the light came on mmmmm so i pulled away but engine wouldn't rev over 2000 rpm. :cry:

Thinking it could be a fuel problem i checked filter but it was ok.

I have just replaced the display in my LX with one from an SX model and now have all the extra functions. However it doesn't appear to illuminate when the lights are switched on. I assume I need to swap wires to correct this. Anybody got a diagram or can tell me the colours of the wires which control the light display please.

The wiring should be the same on both types so i would also say it looks like just the bulbs are gone, there are 3 of them if i remember correctly.

I thought as much, they seem to be delicate as the old one removed only had one working bulb. Looks like a trip to Maplins or halfrauds

It was the bulbs, all changed and display now illuminates. :D

The stop light and amber light on the temp gauge have started illuminating intermittently, despite the temperature indicated being about 75 degrees. The coolant level is fine. The ABS light also illuminates of its own accord, it can even do this when reversing or stationary - faulty instruments perhaps?

My car is an anti - sink model - does...

Regarding the ABS Sensor testing, take a look at the first section of this guide:

It is possible to test without a Lexia. Though if none flag up faulty, it still could well be a sensor that has become faulty in a different respect as not to affect the ohms rating.

Hello new here and have a few questions. Some have been asked before and I have read quite a bit but haven't yet located an answer that's simple enough for me to follow.

Just bought a Xantia 1.9TD Desire 1998 (Series 1) and it has a few issues.

First the easy one. Rear ride is hard and bouncy. Front spheres have just been replaced and new rears...

If I've got it right, the rear A/S accumulator sphere is also part of the rear braking circuit, which is (as Jim says) a dead-end beyond that point. If you were to change the rear pads immediately after changing the A/S sphere then I reckon you would probably purge any air - otherwise the brake lines will be full of dirty old LHM.

With the car idling from cold on the drive my 99 Xantia Exc Estate 110 HDI is spitting a bit of oil from the exhaust. Mileage is 160k and the car gets a lot of use. 30k in the last year.

Any ideas why it is doing this and how worried should I be? Thanks.

First of all :

Be sure it really is engine oil, and not some black moisture from the rust and sooth in the exhaust.

Hold a cloth against the exos pipe while engine is idling. The cloth should be large enough you wont burn yourself, and the exhaust is still able to breathe through.

Hi i have just bought a 51 plate xsara vtr coupe

i love the car but the only fault is the blowers only work on 4!

can anyone please help me on what this is, and how to fix it (i am fairly mechanically minded)

The part shown is attached to the blower motor, to be in the breeze, but covered with a perforated metal shield.
Some models have it in the air duct, very near the blower.

The fuse link is the silvery piece with yellow tip.

There have been quite a number of posts from new Xantia owners asking about suspension heights - sometimes not realising that the flattened tops of the rear wheel arches should hide the tops of the rear tyres.

The proper way to check the suspension heights means getting under the car when it is on ramps and presumes that the suspension is working...

It would appear that the ball-stud that the plastic link arm goes on to is missing off the corrector :shock: There's no doubt about it now,it'll have to be removed,stripped and cleaned up :( However,it looks like it can be repaired. :) All will become apparent when we get it off the car!

Weird one this. ABS light has been on and off whilst driving for several months now. When it's on, the brakes work fine, only no abs presumably, but when the light stays out I dread low speed braking as it kicks in with all the usual noise and bouncing pedal behaviour.

Any ideas anyone? Knackered sensor, or something more sinister?

As the the title suggests, i have a driveshaft that's started clicking nicely as of this morning... I've had a look in the book of lies, but i'd rather ask someone on here that's had first hand experience!!

It's the o/s (drivers) - which is IIRC the longer? of the two. I certainy wouldn't class myself as a spanner twirling hero, but...

As the title says i have noticed the rear brake lights (all 3) are not working, all other light are ok. According to the manual they appears to be no fuses for the rear brake lights

I have had a look at the bulbs on the nearside they look fine- surely not all 3 would not go at the same time would they

Can anyone point me in the right direction

It turned out to be the brake light switch, for some reason the plunger at the end of the switch was jammed in and would not move out therefore the light was always in the off position.

Hi all,

Xantia MK1 with air con and it just never gets hot. Even when full temp selected on the slider. it gets warm blowing on the screen for a short amount of time and then blows cold. You can get mildly warm from the main vents but that's about it. The air con works a treat on cold, but no hot...help, it's freezing!!

Hi,
the centre of my Picasso exhaust hangs low and grounds out on my driveway :(
I've had a look and can't see any way of raising the centre, there's a mounting at the rear and that's it. Is there supposed to be another mounting?

Hi C5 owners,

Im looking at getting a C5 2.0 HDi 110, around 2002-2003 year.

Im just wanting your comments on how reliable yours have been and what MPG you average? I have done a search but can not find much info the the MPG of 2.0 HDi C5s.

Coming from a 1.4TDI as my daily car, it may be a bit of a shock to the wallet to go down to something...

Thanks Ben, its a great car, i love it 8)

Its had a good run out today, 5 people, lots of shopping and 4 huge bags of horse feed in the boot, up and down some some very steep and twisty roads, yet it still did 46.8MPG on that run. Not to mention the space, comfort, features and the drive. Superb car, as you know! :)

Does anyone here know which spheres the TXD uses and where I can find them. There are mixed views as to whether the TXD model should have soft or firm suspension, at the moment it's firm, so I'm going to try and change them to see if it makes a difference. The general opinion is that it needs the soft ones and mine need replacing.

Hi All,

Not been on here for a while since my Xsara died after the cam belt jumped a cog.

Anyway have bought a C5, not the HDI SX model I wanted and have seen some real bangers too. Got a 52 plate 1.8 16v LX

Problems found so far,

Original radio didn't work so have replaced with one from a previous car. Works fine except it remains on after...

My heater blower only works on the last two settings. Manual selection mine is the LX model. Just phoned my local stealer's for a quote, gave my reg number and the reply was £105 +vat :x

I was under the impression that the manual air con uses a different system to control the fan motor, can anybody confirm this and perhaps give me the correct...

Can anyone help with this? The Airbag Warning light on my Xantia Estate LX (V Reg) has been on permantly for ages and attempts by local garages to read the codes proved a waste of time. So in the end I went to Citroen who after confirming that the codes couldn't be read advised that I needed a new Airbag ECU. I decided to go with the flow and hey...

Recently disconnected/removed airbag as I stuffed the connector on the back of it. Now getting the airbag warning light. My question is that by disconnecting the plug under the seat as mentioned in this thread will that disable the seatbelt pretensioners (which I still want to be active)?

Very occasionally, the newly purchased v6 Xantia stalls at idle or slow speed
and it's a real hassle restarting with the autobox! I've been led to believe there's

That price was for the fob only, to have a key as well was extra. The man in the parts dept said it would need re programming and to go speak to the mechanic. So I did and he said it wouldn't and if there was a prob they would check it on their diagnostics.
I can only assume that he meant to re programme new fob from old one??

It was the pin that holds the catch and spring to the bonnet.
Strangely it looks like a large rivet type pin but I could not see any circlip, split pin etc that was holding it in and it didn't appear to have sheared.

Hello there,

I lowered the rear seat on the ZX (97 Dimension) the other day for a trip to the tip (what joy) and now it won't lock back in place. I suspect that the body shell may be twisted (put it this way, when it's time for the next MOT, I'm not going to bother, way too much rust in important places).

Is there a way of moving the 'strickers'...
