Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

My wife came home yesterday complaining that the heater had stopped working on her Xsara (T reg 1.4 petrol) and that it was overheating slightly (temperature gauge on about 100°C).

If you have a slight leak, id strongly recommend Forte radiator stop leak - possibly available on ebay. It does actually work and ive seen it cure failing headgaskets. I also cured a HG problem on my old AX, which really worked, i never had to top up the cooling system again in the next 3 months before i sold the car.

Its certainly worth a try...

I've had this car for 6 months and covered 10500 miles, probably 7000 of these in long runs from Bergerac France to Birmingham and back (best part of 1800 miles including running about in UK).

After a few weeks I began to notice a growling noise that sometimes (not always) came on when the engine was hot. You really only hear it when ticking...

All car models have their issues, things that were poorly designed by the factory, wrong materials etc. Xantia rear height corrector for example :)

Since the C6 has been out a while, are any patterns beginning to show about specific issues, model diseases etc?

Just curious as i might have a chance to own one in about 10 years time :roll:

Please help, my heater blower has stopped working.
It stopped yesterday, but started again by it's self 2 mins later.
Tonight it has just stopped and will not work at all (in manual or auto),
I've had a quick look at the red wier that feeds the blower but it looks fine and is not loose.
It's a VSX so has climit control and A/C.
Any more ideas...

The only one I've used is the Forte one a few years ago.

Normally I'd just hose everything out a few times and not use any chemical cleaners.

From memory:

Remove themostat, refill with just water and flushing solution, obviously bleed as normal.

Run engine for about half an hour at a fast idle (say about 1200rpm)

Drain and allow to cool...

I know there is lots of discussion on this type of topic, but I'm try to narrow down what the issue is here and so far I'm still not clear.

It's a RHD Series 1 XM, RP 5833 so the diode fix is not applicable.

Suspension used to be lovely. At speed on fast roads the car would float over the bumps, bridge joints, etc., very comfortably. And at low...

How many variants are there for normal/non hydractive HP pumps(anti sink)

I have been quoted by my local Citroen Garage, £102 plus VAT (not fitted) for the front centre accumulator sphere, this seems excessive. Any comments please.
Are the sphere's interchangeable? Does anywhere do replica parts?

I've read the thread on changing the sphere.

Still don't know the difference between the suspension ones and the centre one.

Corner/suspension spheres have a valve/damper and different centre hole/orifice sizes (Dependent on which Citroen model there for) also the pressure/volume capacities can vary !
The Hydractive ones (the centre/middle ones) and Accumulator spheres do not have the...

When I bought the Xantia, it had a small water leak, we did 750 miles over Christmas (went to IKEA twice!!!!) without having to top up.

Over the weekend, the leak seems to be worse, and over the last 2 days I've poured 15 ltrs of fluid in, 2x 5ltrs of mixed coolant, but plain water only today.

Can't see anything coming out, so either it's a...

Turned out in the end that ny water leak was the water pump after all. the bearing had failed completely, which was allowing the cam belt to rub on the block due to the amount of movement in the pulley.

Easy job in the end.

Hi,

I have recently had some work done on my Citroen Xantia 1.9 TD SX Estate.

whilst this work was being carried out said mechanic noticed that the rear anti roll bar was curved upwards in the middle towards the centre sphere.
because access with a chain wrench was difficult the anti-roll bar was straightened.
I am wondering if this has had an...

Many thanks to DickieG for taking a look at my Activa yesterday afternoon, hope I didn't take up too much of your time.

I'm popping this here as it's not solely Activa specific though I'm sure there are some differences. If its not appropriate I'll move it to the Activa area.

Lexia diagnosed the rear Hydractive valve as having a permanent fault which will not clear, the ECU therefore reverts to its default state of firm suspension as a faulty electrovalve is determined as a serious fault. Fitting three additional diodes made no difference (logged fault still wouldn't clear after fitting the diodes) when opening a door...

Put these on about a month ago, black diamond predator fast road pads and thought I would just comment on them for anyone considering them.

about a year ago I posted a thread requesting help with radio code.. a year on and a very usefull link being set up with an online calculator made me think it would be pretty straight forward to get the code for my new xantia...the problem is that you get at least 3 codes to try and most probably one of them will work it did the last time however...

I have a 1999 Xantia with a snapped Cambelt, engine Goosed with no Auxcillery Belt. I want to remove some parts that require that the Suspension be de-pressurised, is it possible to do this as the pump cannot be run in the normal manner.

Can anyone help please, I foolishly forgot about the radio when disconnecting the battery on my Xantia. I have removed the radio and it is a Blaupunkt PHI/C, serial number 96 133 457 80. I bought the car secondhand and have never had the code, if anyone knows how to generate the code from the serial number I would be grateful to know how....

decided to change my discs and pads today managed to do the rears no problem... got to the front removed pads, handbrake cable,
plenty of plusgas on the pivot bolt and caliper bracket bolts, went to undo them and noticed pivot bolt head are cracked both sides and caliper bolts have been chewed up i can get hold of the caliper bolts easy enough...

Candy if the ends are split it will only be were the torx tool fits, and for replaceing pads you dont need to undo this slide pin/bolt.

we were going to change discs and clean the calipers and pistons up as well but doesnt matter now as front pads and discs will last at least another 12 months just wanted to change the lot...

Hi All.
The old girl is having a hissy fit at the moment. The mirrors don't come out on their own accord when started, but they manage to go back in ok when locking. I am not happy pulling them out manually cos knowing my luck I'll break something, is there an easy fix? do they need a strip down and is it easy.

I just wanted to give an update on what happened when my xantia lost all LHM and I couldnt get access to the pipes ontop of the subframe....as suggested I contacted Martin at PLEIADES and after dropping the subframe and following the problem pipe back to the engine where it became really difficult to see where it went..Martin suggested selling me...

Just sitting of in a queue at the lights when a Hyundai 4x4 drives into my boot. The half asleep woman said she was watching the lorry in front of me. She didn't even brake. I reckon she never saw me at all

does anybody have any idea as to what could be causing a rattle around a newly fitted cambelt when the 1.9TD engine is at idle?

when I start the engine from cold there is no noise at all the noise gradually builds as the engine warms up.

i have seen the auto tentioner clattering against the cam belt cover before, this give a sound like somethimg clattering against a plastic box, i found it to be if the aux drive belt is over tightend,

im not sure if this is on,after or durin warm up,

Hi all,

Does anyone know the inside diameter of the water pipes that go to and from the heater matrix?

I ask because I want to flush out the matrix to improve cabin temperature. And I don't want to break the elbows on the matrix.

I am thinking of cutting the pipes to flush and then re-connect using in line connectors.

need you guys help again. 2.1 r reg xantia, turn key and all i get is a click. sometimes on third or fourth turn it starts. have cleaned battery terminals, starter was tested 18 months ago and checked out ok, and when refitted all wires ect well cleaned. sometimes it starts ok but is playing up more frequently now. as i leave for work at 4am i...

The starter solenoid could be dodgy, shorting the 2 terminals like Peter says will bypass the solenoid so when it's clicking try this....if nothing happens when you short the terminals then it could just be that the shaft what the starter gear runs on is dry & needs a bit of lubrication, remove the starter motor & lube it up.

I have an 'n' reg ZX and need to adjust the handbrake as it it coming up 10 notches! Doing the adjustment doesn't look hard but I do have one query! does anyone know the type and size of the two small screws that hold the front of the handbrake console on. I just can't quite make out what they are.

Any help very gratefully received.

As above, been having a few ABS related problems and upon checking the front rings one appears to have a gap as in a piece missing.

Is it possible to replace these on their own or do they have to be renewed as part of a new CV joint?

Also the car has its MOT next week and i current have the ABS fuse out to stop the pedal kicking, how easy would...

My rev counter sometime works and sometimes doesn't (R reg 1.9 TD Xantia). If it doesn't work i can sometimes get it working by starting the engine again, i removed the fly wheel sensor and cleaned it, plus the connector but has made no differance.

Is it time to get a new sensor or is the fly wheel need a clean?

It could be your needle lift sensor.
It's on the 2nd injector from the cambelt end.
Jenny had a problem with hers, sometimes the rev would work, sometimes it wouldn't, sometimes the engine would run smooth, sometimes it ran like a bag of nails.
Replaced the injector and all was well.

There is a T piece water pipe above the offside engine mount (cambelt side)> This has a bleed screw but has a leak from one of the joints but i can't see how to remove it as it has no coventional jubilee clip but looks like a push fit.

Does anybody knows how to remove it ?

The pipe is joined be a Spring clip on the pipe that goes TO THE EXPANSION BOTTLE.. The rest of the T piece is an ALL IN ONE pipe that goes round under the inlet manifold to the top of the Thermostat house..

If you cant fix it, theres a GOOD Few of them here :lol:

Had the cars tracking and balance done just before Christmas. It was steering to the left before and continued after. The vibration at 70 was gone. Now though it is steering fairly strongly to the left.

Had this problem before and a small garage in France sorted it where no garage in the UK did (Kept going back for tracking)

My other half cleverly span my ZX and walloped a rear wheel against a kerb (luckily he didn't hit anything else).

My friendly mechanic says it needs a new stub axle, but that you can only buy a full axle at £500. is that correct? He said he wouldn't be happy to fit just a stub axle if I found one at a scrappy, it would have to be the whole...

The most basic question . The spark plugs on Mk1 V6. What did guys gap them to? They are standard type NGK for the engine.

I never bung them in from the packet. All the small outboard motors I have are different gap. These are not dual electrode but the common or garden ones that NGK prescribe. 22 thou it will be.

If it has an induction kit on it which hasnt been serviced properly or over oiled ts probably caked the mass air flow sensor with its oil. Best thing to do is take it off and give it a very careful clean up with some electrical cleaner or brake cleaner.

ok car been great until the recent cold snap ,where it refused to start came up as immboliser fault even though sometimes it was just about to fire any way recharged battery and tried again finally fired up left running for an hour to charge battert etc,voltmeter just above half way

I had a similar problem. The engine was turning over too slowly. I didn't get an alarm though.

The solution was to replace the starter motor. My C5 had done about 100K miles at the time. It's now on 122K miles and going strong.. (touch wood).

Hi all, first and foremost, Im 31.

I got hold of a Saxo VTR as a runaround but its developed a problem.

The car starts and runs fine from cold. It will run for as long as you like until you turn it off. Then it wont start for 10mins.

It just turns over and doesnt fire up. If left for 10mins, it starts straight away and again, runs for as long...
