crazy c5 window

Post by Andy F »

Help please!
My passengers front window has developed a dislike of my wife. When you put it up it comes straight back down to nearly half way. You can get it to stay by pushing button up when it gets to the top. But when it rains and the you turn on the wipers it comes down again.

Ive tried holding button up and down to reset it and ive reset the battery this morning but still the same problem. Is there dirt somewhere in mechanism or is it electrical?

Any pointers greatly appreciated

My brother has the same issue and has been advised it is because he has a non original radio!

Sounds as though there is a fault with the window parking or the computer which controls it. When it rains the C5 checks to see if its windows are closed, if not it closes them. It seems as though its checking that the windows are closed but the window is being sent down instead.

Does the window operate by the switch and the key as it should?

You could try reprgraming the windows one touch operation.

Thanks for the replies,

It responds the same whether I use driver or passenger switch or the key. It goes all the way to the top then back down to half way.

Whats the one touch window reprogramming procedure?

Thanks

Hi all,

This afternoon i took the door trim off, very easy, and had a good look around. Underneath the window motor, there is a small red plug. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it seems to have cured it. It works perfectly like before now oin the key and button.

Not sure what the pproblem was , whether it was not plugged in properly or dirty or it just felt lonely but all is well now.

Thanks for your help and comments

Glad you fixed it Andy. I have an anecdote to report here:
About 6 months ago I (carelessly) ran out of fuel in my C5 V6. Repeated starting attempts flattened the 4 year old battery which turned out to have a dead cell. This "disturbed" the various computers that control all the fancy creature comforts of the C5, including the windows. For the rest of that day, the drivers window would only go half way down, and the others not at all. Next day, the drivers window worked normally and the passengers window would go part way down. By the end of the week, all 4 windows worked normally with absolutely no intervention by me!!
So the marvellous and enigmatic C5 "healed itself" over about 4 days. Quite spooky really!

This can often be the anti-pinch settings.
I think the manual tells you how to reset them, but from memory, make the window go all the way up, then once at the top press and hold the button up for 10 seconds.
My mk1 C5 would occasionally drop the stop height slightly over time, not so the window was open just enough so it sounded like air was rushing past, I think I could reset them while driving, so I don't think you need to just have the ignition on when setting or anything.
