In the continuing saga of trying to get my suspension of its a**e I thought I'd have a go at getting the hydraulic pump out. Removed the LDS reservoir, worst job ever, I really mean ever. I drained, clamped and otherwise tried to prevent the fluid pouring everywhere and failed miserably, and it's horrible stuff. I then worked out how to remove the pump. If Mr Haynes would like to come round my house I would gladly stuff the manual where the sun don't shine.
Anyways I removed the end plate of the pump motor and had a spring fly out, found it but have no idea where it goes back. I know now why the pump no longer works, one of the contacts had partially disintegrated, there was a green fungus like substance growing profusely across the copper windings and a strange white fungus like substance. looks like moisture has been getting in there for a considerable length of time. I dont think the motor can be fixed so the crux of the matter is can a new motor be fitted to the old pump and if so how do you seperate the two parts. Sorry for the essay.
Many thanks

Have you seen this thread?

toward the end there's a photo of mine of the end cover and where it failed, I cleaned it up and soldered a short length of copper cooker cable across the break which fixed it.
To separate the motor from the pump pull the motor body off the armature, (there's a strong magnetic force holding it) take out the three screws in the flange and you'll find that pulling the armature away you can just see the flexible joint that holds the two together, wedge a thin screwdriver through the joint and simply unscrew the armature off, it's only hand tight.
To test the motor on the bench you need to connect the two heavy wires, (the bottom one is positive) and touch the third small connector with positive wire, clamp it in the vice because if it works it will jump off the bench
Ps, I've no idea where your spring came from.
Pps. To drain the tank it's easiest to remove the under wing mudguard and separate the pipe at its joint down the bottom over a nice clean bucket.

I usually suck the contents out with a bilge type pump.
Sounds a nightmare. Take your time and you may get a result for your work and patience.
Note to self..........never buy a C5 .........well not this week

That is the proper way to do it as per Citroens own manual, takes almost as long getting the mudguard of as it does the tank and pump.Gibbo2286 wrote:

Citroen advise never to re-use the oil but at the price of LDS that seems a little wastefull. I drained mine of from underneath into a very clean container and re-used it, filled the tank using a funnel and an old pair of tights as a filter. Looked at sucking it out but there is no apparent way of getting the pipe down to the bottom of the tank.
Didn't have the tools to re-use the original hose clips, used jubilee clips for the larger ones and cable ties for the very small ones, bit dubious about that but they seem to hold up well.

I've got a pump on my bench with a good motor on it, it was brought in by a neighbour to see if I could fix it, the motor was full of oil that had got past the end seal in the pump, cleaned out the oil and it works fine but without replacing the seals I recommended he didn't refit it. (Can't buy the seals.)
When he calls in later I'll ask him if he's prepared to sell the motor and for how much, I know he has his car back on the road with a pump from the breakers so he doesn't need this one.
