Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Look, stupid really, but I can't find a wheelbrace in this car.

the handbook says it's in the boot, on the right hand side, but can't seem to lay my hands on it.

looking for a bit of advice really, i've been offered a Y reg citroen xsara estate, it's done 90000 miles and has plenty of tax and test, condition is good, my mates brother is wanting £750 for it, is it a good price or are the 2.0hdi's a bit undesirable? btw it's not a picasso

Just bit the bullet and ordered a set of six spheres and Hydraflush from Pleiades. I'm going for normal VSX spheres, as I have this mission to restore the suspension to what it should be, with full Hydractive action, so new spheres, flush out, then start to change/ repair from a known base - I chaged the accumulator sphere before Christmas....

When I did my rear spheres before I found out that it would be easier to pressurise the system before loosening them (before I joined the FCF this!) I used two beefy chain wrenches, one around the sphere itself and the other around the bracket. Holding one and whacking the other.

I've got the radio/cassette option fitted and am looking to go to CD maybe with autochanger. If I find an original Xantia-fitted single CD or autochanger, will I find it simple to fit? i.e. are the wiring harnesses and plug fits the same? Will the steering wheel controls work?

Again, if I go to another setup, will I find the plugs etc are...

Theres 2 options..

One is a Phillips Radio Cassette option, this is easyilly idenetified as it has a Flap that closes over the radio...

The second is the Clarion Facia fitted radio with NO Flap, and as said above has a row of three buttons for Radio/Tape/CD..

Now, if the second radio is fitted, you have half the battle won, you then ONLY need...

As above, been trying to find a horrible rumbling noise coming from my xantia for a few weeks now. its at the point where you cant hear each other speak in the car at motor way speeds.

I had teh car up off the ground yesterday and had the front wheels doing 50mph with me lying underneath to listen to the intermediate bearing.

Just trying to build my tools back up again as my unit was broken into last week resulting in every tool taken....

I will get two front wheel bearings, as i have to do the O/S ARB link and ABS reluctor ring and rear wishbone bush.

So may as well do both bearings and thats the front pretty much...

Had an oddity with my German C5 auto petrol yesterday.

Drove to the supermarket. Started car and could not get it out of park. Then when it did come out as I moved off I got a handbrake error followed by ESR and ABS errors.

Stopped and played a bit and found:

1) The relay that lets you get it out of park was not always clicking when the brakes...

Went again in the Customs shed at Folkestone! But good luck in that it did not fail on the shuttle.

Up till now the errors had only shown up after trouble getting out of park. But on the trip they just came on whilst driving. Took it to a dealer in Germany who plugged in a lexia and said brake switch . Changed under warranty in a few...

hi there i have just recently bought a 04 plate c5 vtr 2.0 hdi hatch,this is my 7th c5,the climate control unit does not blow air or anything,the electricity is there and the rest of panel works and lights up,even the fan speeds move a segment but no blower,whats wrong with it folks?please send me your replies many thanks look forward to it cheer...

1 the temperature display (outside temp) is showing about 20 degrees higher than it should, question, can this be adjusted (if so how?) or does the sensor require replacement? (if so where is it?)

Um, it wasn't a simple thing to search for after all. Anyway found this for taking off the door mirror glass (I've only done my Xsara which is slightly different):from

The temperature sender can be changed. You'll need to remove the mirror which has a spring ring holding it in place. Reach it from the outside bottom corner

A new sender is £12...

ok im going to tackle my clutch replacement this weekend and thought whilst im doing that might as well do my cambelt as well ....... so was wondering whats the best way to go about it take just the gearbox off and do cambelt whilst engine is in the car or take the lot out and do everything then ... any advice

24 hours is good going. I'd always say 2 working days, one to remove and the other to replace.

Did you do the timing belt and water pump or is that a job for later?
no jim we didnt do cambelt that can definately wait .... the car is running fantastic now .. only thing is we have a plug left over cant seem to find where it...

Earlier in the week I was towing my caravan up through France. On a hill I changed into fourth gear and the car slowed down and the engine revved. The clutch was slipping (wasn't it?). Finally, after getting into second, and leaving a cloud of blue smoke, I managed to get onto the hard shoulder. I switched off and thought through my options....

Friend has a C15D 2001 1868cc. It's become a very poor starter,He's replaced the battery,starter motor and glow plugs but to no avail. Are these engines bad for the valves closing up and losing compression?

Once it has started,it will start all day long no problems there.

I don't think the DW8 suffers from the closing valves problem, I've not really heard of it on this unit before (but there are exceptions I suppose and any engine could do this)

It's only the XUD7 (thanks to Jim for confirming that even with these its the N/A one's only)

Hi,
2000 Xantia HDi
Suffering with a front end whine, coming from timing belt area. (recently replaced)
Increases frequency with engine speed.
Power steering is near non-existent,

Not having much luck with my xantia of late

110hdi

a squeeling sound (sounds a bit like a belt slipping)(not engine speed related) has started intermittently from the o/s/f wheel above 50mph.

jacked the car up and there is no play with my hands at 12-6 but there is some at 3-9.

i'm thinking wheel bearing but the sound is too high pitched for...

I second the opinion about a small stone trapped in the pads. Is it more prominent if turning slightly? - right or left - I've got this at the moment. When the wheels are off for the tyre change later in the week I will have a look. My squeak comes and goes, more prominent at 30 - 40 mph in built-up area, where sounds are more easily noticed...

Ive just been reminded of this on mine whilst reading the Activa register thread.....

1995 TD Xantia.....

At 1500rpm when driving and the revs kept constant i get a continuous rasping sound as if an exhaust bracket is vibrating or something....also when idling the engine omits a very deep bass resonation which is worse when you open the sunroof...

Ah, but that it were so simple...

Handbook makes repeated mention of the necessity to maintain the correct tyre pressures, but never gets to tell me what those pressures are. It does say that the pressures are on a label on the door pillsr - but it ain't there...

Last year I fitted new glo-plugs to my 1997 1.9 Xantia SX TD, with DickieG's help, and it started perfectly every time. Over the past few months it splutters on cold start with lots of smoke from the tail pipe.

If I turn on the ignition, then off again when the glo-plug light goes off, then back on, it starts better. It seems to want more heat on...

I'm looking to purchase a C15 with the 1868cc diesel engine.It's apparently suffering from the poor cold start syndrome.It's had the usual stuff,new battery,starter and glowplugs but still struggles to start.Once it's got going it will then start all day no probs.

Would just some extra advice on how to refit the fuel line feed to the fuel filter and then onto the pump on the 2.1td.If you look closely you can see that something has been bypassed on my new arrival :lol:

Jim, I surgested sealant as the O rings oftern go flat and will not reseal if used again, and as you can't buy just the O ring (only the whole housing) this is a much cheaper way of getting it to seal.

Just bought some new Marangoni Verso's from Mytyres and went to have them fitted at a local tyre place.
Bloke didn't mention that he couldn't balance the wheels due to the solid centres on the HDI's wheels until he'd removed the old tyres !! I obviously expressed my concern at this but he said there was a good chance they would be fine !!

This can be a real pain - my current and previous Xantias (both Exclusives) were centreless as is the wifes Xsara. Having the kit, and being prepared to admit they do is one thing, being able to do a good job is another. Usually avoid Kwik-fit but I have to say the Doncaster branch did a great job a few years ago. Now I've found a back street guy...

Hi just been reading another thread regarding the above on a xantia. Is it an easy job on a Mk 1 xsara 1.9D 1999. Get a groaning noise occassionally at low speeds sounds like the brakes are stuck but they're not Rear dampers and axle mounting bushes are new but it still groans. Heard stories like you have to set ride height etc after works been...

I had exactly the same problems as you're describing and after lots and lots of investigating it turned out to be the head gasket gone. Funny think was it wasn't showing up on a monoxide test on the coolant resevoir but it was over pressurising the coolant system causing it to blow steam out of the resevoir cap.

I am going to be fitting rear parking sensors to my 05 Reg C3.

As you said, I did not have to remove the bumper and I managed to avoid the webs behind it too!
My main problems were finding a route from behind the bumper up into the 'boot'. I eventually used a draw wire to pull the sensor cables up through a sealing grommet on the nearside, just...

As above, my intermediate bearing is sounding rough so looking to replace the shaft.

Phoned dingbro and they say theres 2 types depending on how many splines the inner shaft has.

So my question is does anyone know this before i have to go and remove the shaft to find out.

I would prefer to know becuase they only have one type of shaft in...

Hi,

You could try using the citroen-service site, put in your VIN number and then you can get car specific spares info. Check the part number it gives for a drive shaft for your car against what your supplier thinks he can offer.

Hi Everyone I'm hoping this will be a simple (cheap) fix. The clutch started slipping last weekend after about 40 mins of driving. It has been fine ever since (we haven't been pushing the car so much) but I would just really like to know if adjusting the cluch cable will help at all. The travel and biting points haven't changed in our lifetime...

My new arrival is i believe a MK2 with the bonnet facelift but im not sure if its a hybrid :?

the part of the engine next to (or connected to ) the bottom pulley of my HDi 90??

This seems to be leaking a fair bit of LHM onto the road

The actual pump itself with all the pipes and things seems fine. There is no contamination onto the alternator but the right hand suspension fixtures are absolutely filthy

Did a quick search and could not find any info on this so I hope I am not duplicating.

The rear o/s ABS sensor had gone on my 1997 Xantia SX TD. I read up in TBOL on how to do it. Simplz. Eh!! Non!!!!

First off the old sensor was well and truly stuck in, so I had to take the disc off to attack it from that side. I had to annihilate it to get it...

The BOL, well, disregard most of its prcedure! They work on a 2 year old car with hardly any miles or rust on them..

You can also drop the subframe on the appropiate side to get at the cables above the subframe! This then makes it even easyer!

No need to disconnect the exhaust, or cross bar, just have the car supported, jack under the subframe,...

I have an X reg HDi Xantia, its done 160k miles

Just spent 150 on new front discs, pads and brake hoses to ensure it passes its MOT which is frankly 150 quid I haven't got.

Since it came back from the garage ive noticed that instead of the usual mildly heavy clutch operation, for 95% of the time when pressing in the clutch pedal I have about 2...

Auto adjusting cables were the silly thing.
I much prefer manual adjusting to auto or hydraulic.
It means I can have the bite point where I want it, ie down near the floor and a pedal that isn't trying to shake hands with the dashboard.

It could be the pressure regulator in the hydraulics system, although this makes a sound that I can best describe as posh slurping . On the other hand, it could also be the fuel pump, the combination of common rail and electronics means that these are electical, rather than run from the cam belt, and thus are independant of engine speed.

got a 1999 xantia estate hdi100 so 283mm discs up front.

Symptoms are vibration when braking and vibration above 60mph to 80mph.

The wheels have been balanced as well

When i bought the car it had rusty discs so i swapped them over and the vibration went away for about 100 miles, then it came back again. So on the advice of previous owner i took...

Hi all,

I think I've made a stupid mistake when putting back the steering wheel and getting the Air Bag electrical Slip Ring one revolution our of sync.
At first, all appeared fine after putting the steering wheel back on - until taking the steering to one end of the rack and then the AirBag light came flashing on, immediately. :oops:

As the 10 year airbag limit was about to kick in for Mk2 XM's (2005) Citroen issued the same 5 year life extension as the Pug one mentioned.
Seems to be general for all PSA cars.
Hopefully they are still life testing the original airbags so perhaps we get another 5 years life added sometime this year.

Need to get a new exhaust centre section but can't seem to find the correct type on ebay !
The one fitted to the car has a centre silencer box but the ones for HDI's on ebay are just a simple pipe ! The ones listed with a centre box are for 2.0 petrols , had mine been fitted with one of these in the past by mistake ?

Sorted this today , bought a Bosal repair section from a local motor factor.
Removed the old centre pipe which includes a silencer and was the original Citroen part !! Cut off the pipe at the silencer box that connects to the cat which is then used to couple to the new repair section. This does not have a centre box. All installed like a breeze :)...

As some of you may know, I have a disabled mum so in the family we have a wheelchair converted Citroen C8 which is used very often and gets a biblical mileage added every few days lol.

The front tyres and the rears had worn down to the markers.

To be fair im quite pleased, they may be quiet and long lasting, but wet grip was more than lacking,...

On Friday I bought a couple of 'dog-bone' connectors (for the height adjuster units) from the local Citroen stealers. I was charged about £5.60 (can't remember exactly) for the pair - nearly twice what I was expecting.

Is this what other people have paid recently?

As I was passing, and to go anywhere else would have cost me a couple of quid in...

hi there does anyone know where the fuel cut off switch is located on c3? the airbag on my sons citroen c3 has just popped and cut the fuel off, and we cant find the switch to get the car going again, and dont fancy having tp pay a fortune to get a mechanic out, any help would be great.

Hi i have oil in expansion tank of 1.9td xantia.
Starts and runs fine. no leaks.
Expansion tank becomes pressureised when running.

Have taken oil cooler pipes off thinking it could be a faulty oil cooler.
But no oil emerges when running.

Could it still be a faulty cooler.
Could it be air in the system
Or is it the head?

Hi all

I have a C3 diesel that seems to be letting in air into the fuel line.

I can clear it by using the hand primer that the C3 has and watching the fuel then come through before starting the car.

I am wondering what is causing it in the first place and how easy it will be to resolve

Hi, My c5 hdi is in limp mode and the engine light is on. The fault code is P1166 fuel pressure sensor . I have been told that the sensors are not always the problem. Has anyone got any advice please, these sensors are £150 and might not actually cure the fault!

Also, most hdi's have got a modified 6 extra piece of loom fitted that can cause problems, so when you unplug the rail sensor connector, follow it down another 6 and you will likely find another plug and socket that you need to check, i have had to cut the extra connector out on my old car and solder it together because of a dodgey joint there

I'm still battling an erratic running condition (low power at times, and stumbles/misfires under light throttle). Plugging in the generic tool yesterday gave voltage fluctuating readings between 12.4 and 13.2 (hot idle).

A mate suggested that it's reading a more regulated ECU supply voltage - not the actual charging voltage. Is this correct?...

Does anyone have the wiring diagram for the alarm system for my car?

I can only assume that there must be another connector somewhere, that has been damaged by the water that I had in the car.

My parents went to go out in our Xantia V6 today.

Last the time car was running was a few days ago and everything was fine, not down on power, no missing, was puuuuurfect.

When started today it revved itself to 3000rpm and wouldn't come below. If you revved it the revs moved up freely but it refused to come below 3000rpm.

Meant to update this but haven't had time.

I started the car on Saturday morning and it was running fine.

Left it to warm up, no problems, was running perfectly.

The only thing I've noticed is that it can take an awful amount of turning over on the starter for it to start once it's warm.
