Odd HP Pump Leak

Post by CitroJim »

Had a strange one today; the new owner of Old V6 called round complaining of an odd chirrupy noise from the auxiliary belt area.

Had a look and found the belt wet and sticky with LHM and LHM was splashed on the timing covers and RH headlight back.

The inside of the pump pulley was similarly wet.

Inspection showed the HP pump was leaking from just behind the pulley, by the looks of it from the driveshaft.

Never known one to leak from there before :?

It was a bad enough leak that in the misty rain and in rapidly failing light I swapped it for a newly refurbished spare I had and fitted a new auxiliary belt.

Interestingly, the leaking pump was not so long ago refurbished...

What seals the driveshaft? Has anyone else known one to leak from here?

Oddly enough I was confronted with a similar leak today. Aux belt had "thrown" and apparently damaged the pump seal.

The beauty was a following question, chirpily delivered "Can you fix it for $100?" - err, not really.
