C5 spheres where to buy?

Unread post by waynedance »

In my quest to get rid of the road noise which is loud on rough roads at slow speeds I have so far replaced drop links, bottom arms and the rear bushes.

The thing to try next is the spheres, where is the best place to buy and best spec.

Thank you.

Is it just tyre noise your trying to eliminate?

I can't imagine spheres would have any effect, however tyres do have a massive impact on road roar and noise.

Tyres are Kuhmos on all corners so no budgets. The noise is loudest on worn road surfaces at slow speeds and is like a vibration rumble.

Tried removing under trays, tightening arch liners. Tyres are Kuhmos on all corners so no budgets. The noise is loudest on worn road surfaces at slow speeds and is like a vibration rumble.

Has the noise started recently, been progresive or always been there?

The C5 usually is very quiet with road noise, so somehting is not quite right.

Spheres will give a poor ride if they are low on gas but won't effect the road noise. However if you do need to replace them then try AEP parts (search google for their website) or GSF. Obviously they are available from Citroen to get the correct spheres but they will be pricey.

Yes you can do them yourself and you don,t need any electronic tools but you will need a strong chain or strap wrench or a special tool for removing the sphere,s as they are very tight

Is just put on lowest setting and unscrew them and fit new ones and add fluid?

Pretty much :)

Ive found C5 spheres to be very very tight and as they are a wider sphere they don't fit in a lot of typical sphere removal tools.

As I understand C5 saucers aren't rechargeable I'd have thought that using a chisel on the circumference would do the job especially as its wider than traditional sphere's so more leverage on the thread, not exactly a scientific method but effective.

Apparently some people have drilled the spheres to allow for a recharging nipple to be screwed into the end. Ive not looked into this but it was mentioned on here a while back, I think it might well be over on the XM forum for some reason.

Though I doubt I would try it and yes C5 spheres are scrap once finished with, so as long as you can get them off then using the chisel method would be an idea.

Ive not had Kumhos on a C5 but they are usually quiet tyres.

Some tyres which have been fitted to C5s ive bought have been very noisey though.
