Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

My Xantia SX is 2.0 16v petrol automatic. There is a noticeable smell from the exhaust system. The fuel consumption at the freeway is OK for a car of that age ( make year 2000 ), about 30 mpg. The urban consumption ( I live at a hilly place ) is about 17 mpg. Last time I changed the plugs ( 3 month ) the electrodes looked OK and it passed the MOT...

I found out that the idle stepper motor is faulty, the idle is not stable. I used the Lexia to check it and after that at idle the motor stopped. The only cure was to hit the stepper motor , ( I guess it released the actuator ), the idle it still not stable but at least the engine doesn’t stop. I already ordered one out of eBay. My 1998 Synergie 1.9td has gone a bit haywire,the speedo has stuck at about 45mph but previously when I was driving it was showing a very much faster speed than I was actually doing,it was very slow to go back to zero when I stopped moving and has now stuck,the rev counter was not working when I bought the car and the needle is stuck fully...

Hi to all, our C5 tends to wander when in a straight line on uneven roads sometimes to the point of needing to correct it. Tyres all ok, balanced, pressure, tread etc. It feels as if it's coming from the power steering which has a mind of it's own any ideas?

I am now looking for a C5 HDI as a nice addition to my Xantia. I have read about some typical weaknesses in the C5:s, but i have some more questions about what to look out for.
An MK1 or MK2 isn't so important, the important thing for me is that it's well maintained and serviced.

hi , my C5 2.2hdi exclusive is playing up today. the wife noticed that she could not adjust the heater on her side was just running hot. Everything ok on the driver side. Can anyone help, heard something about resetting the ecu??? or a heater motor resistor under the passenger side has gone???

I ask because the standard tyre size for them doesn't seem that common, and therefore more expensive.
I can usually get a fairly steady supply of cheap/free 205/55/16 tyres, so i'm wondering what other wheels will fit that could take those tyres?

Gutted!!! Clipped my sump on a rock in a car park on Dartmoor, holed the sump and seconds after the oil light came on the camshaft had seized/snapped. The bottom end turns, the top end doesn't!

Getting the car taken home to Nottingham (it's still near Plymouth at the mo) and will be deciding what to do with it.

Sylv's ZX appears to have a leak from the underside of the pump.

Of course, hers is the DW8 which makes it more involved to remove in the first place. Not a job I particularly fancy doing just yet as I only changed cambelt back in November.

Mystery solved! Ir's that damned solenoid in the front of the pump again! Needs new seal and some thread lock.

D'oh... exhaust dropped off my Xantia last night :cry: Well actually it didn't since the front-rear pipe was caught by the rear subframe, and the rear box on the estate has 2 mountings so it stays put. Looks like the stub has sheared off cleanly at the inlet to the (otherwise good cond) rear box, so I am going to get it off tonight and see if I...

It's relieved :) - it's surprsingly hard to put a large dent in a 2+mm thick pipe, but a few minutes with a ball pein did the trick. I think the reason it was OK to start with was tht the pipe expanded when it got hot and moved the box back a fair bit so if fouled the towbar.

Hope it passes its MOT in a few weeks - it's all starting to look...

Hi,
I am getting an occasional flashing orange warning light on my 1996 AX. The light is orange and shaped like a walking stick with some drops of liquid coming from each end!! Not a great description - sorry. Anyone know what it might be? Or where I can find an online dashboard diagram of an AX?

Hello, i'm a newbie, wondering if someone out there can help.
I have a relay van 2.2hdi 2008 '08' which started off with a p0100 code. Took it to the garage who informed me that the air flow meter needed replacing. I gave the go ahead and they fitted it, but the code then changed to p0101. The map sensor has also been changed and all the pipes...

Late, well maintained car, owned from new, now 110k miles. Just back from happily towing a big trailer to and from the south of France, doung 80 most of the way.

She is fine when driven with a very light throttle - sort of 'sneaking up on her' and then boosts as usual and goes fine, but any attempt at wider or sudden throttle openings produces...

And - a grand total of 3 years after this fault occurred, and after several places had attempted to diagnose at some expense... it's solved!

The EGR valve body had rotted away, allowing gas to pas regardless of 'blanking off' at hoses more easily accessible.

The car has had a lovely rest for 3 years and so is now low mileage!

Hell of an engine!!! Much better then the 1.9 in the other one. Pulls like a train between 1500-3000rpm.

Picked it up and paid £350 for it. It came with EVERY MOT from new and EVERY receipt. 139k on the clock and she runs great.

Bad bits, well, the side airbag light stays on, she's a bit firm up front, the drivers seat is out of adjustment and...

Hi Folks

There is a C5 advertised near me very cheap but it apparantly runs the battery flat if its not used for a couple of days, is this a known fault or could it be anything?

It is an LX but is advertised as having cruise control, would that be an option on an LX, not that I particularly want cruise control I would rather have auxilluary...

Hi,

New user returning to Citroen ownership after a few years!

I've just bouhgt a 2008 VTR+ 2.0HDI Tourer (manual) and am shocked at the fuel economy!

It's on 110k with FCSH an drives beautifully apart from a very minor (almost unnoticeable) hesitation when cold.

Hi all,

Does anyone have experiences of tuning chips or remaps on the C8 2.0HDi's?

Seen them for around £200 saying an increase from 109bhp to around 135. (at least i think it's the 109 version).

What have your experiences been of these?

Sorry no experience on the C8 2.0 HDI's although I did pay a lot to have my 3.0 HDI C5 Tourer remapped properly and all I can say is,....wow!!

240 bhp to 300 bhp and 332flbt to 460flbt.

My car has now done over 20k miles on the map and all is ok plus the real bonus is the fuel consumption has improved by around 5mpg, not to mention the...

I have a 1998 Synergie 1.9td with a knackered gearbox,can anyone tell me the type/model of gearbox that is used in the car and are there any other Cit/Pug cars that have the same one fitted :?:

My Citroën handbook says for the XUD 1.9 TD DHX type engine, the gearbox type is ML/5, the gearbox id plate says 20 LE 43, the reduction box torque is 14x71 and the speedo ratio is 25x20. Hope that helps!

Hi, my recently aquired C3 1.4 lx seems to have a large iron weight on top of the gearbox .This would give inertia to the linkage when engaging or disengaging gears.
Is it really necessary, can I remove it or what? Perhaps some enlightened owner could explain. It is a mystery to me.

Just an update to my last post, the removal of this weight has transformed the car! The heavy, dead feeling has gone, you can feel the gears properly, the lever is much responsive and the difficulty when changing from 4 to 5 (it wanted to go to 3rd) has vanished.

I have recently had a brakedown, couldn't get it started. About half hour prior to it I noticed there was a noise coming from behind somewhere lasting a few seconds and switching off. I told that to the AA guy and he bashed the fuel tank from underneath, that noise reappeared and engine started up. The garage later replaced the low presure fuel...

HI guys can anyone tell me where to find the fuel filter on a 03 1.8 petrol c5, I cant find it may be i am looking in the wrong place. Also while i am on i cant get the back lights on the mult-ifunction display to work i have replaced the bulbs no joy any help welcome.

Doing a pre MOT checkover of wife's 106/Saxo today and spotted a crack in the o/s headlamp lens. Is this an MOT failure?
Are lenses available separately? If not any idea of cost of new unit?
Or anyone got one for sale/ going spare?

Sorry, another question I'm afraid!

My new Xantia makes a bit of a rattle under acceleration then once over 3k it stops. I've read various things ranging from it just being something the HDi does, through to worn injectors. My old Xantia HDi didn't do this at all which makes me wonder whether it could be the latter. I'm guessing replacing...

Hi there,

I've just bought a Xantia HDi and there seems to be a slight problem with the heater. I've noticed there seems to be lots of issues regarding the Xantia climate control system, but having searched I can't find an answer to this particular one. Basically the blower only works when the temperature slider is set to the warmest setting....

The control board is getting cheaper; search UK Fleabay for xantia blower -brushes and you will find there are ones under £25 delivered.

Checking your control panel is the other detail; this requires about 25 minutes to remove (and a T-20 driver). Some people have had breakages there.

just went to do a service on my newly bought 04 806 2.2hdi and i cant get the bonet open, it opened for me to inspect it before i bought it but not now.
the handel on the inside is fine but it must have broken at the other end , i have had the pliers on it inside the car and been pulling but to no end. anyone any ideas on how to get it...

Has anyone experienced front tyre wear due to rear arm bearing failure? My 2000 Xantia HDi seems to have very quickly taken the inside edge (about 15-20mm) off the driver’s side front tyre possibly coinciding with developing a tendency to drift to the right on straight roads.

Tracking is set OK and there is no sign of wear in front arm bushes,...

I am quite sure (some of) mine are on the way out.. I think I will get the arm undone from everything else and wiggle - no change of direction with accel, but the front end is very unhappy with potholes now, steering wheel shake and slight direction changes..

Correct, the one at the back is listed as M7x100-38.

I think the 100 part is the thread pitch - 100 equating to 1mm, and the other part the length (in mm presumably). So the bottom ones are much shorter, which makes sense....

On my 1994 series 1 Xantia I now have the front foglamps fitted. They are wired up, the switch is fitted and I've fitted the missing fuse.

However they don't work. Do they have a relay I need to fit? If so can anybody tell me where it is etc so I can return to the scrapyard and get one?

There should indeed be a relay. Fitted one and they still didn't work :( Turned out I had a bad connection and they're now working :)

Hi,

My wvo running Xantia just failed MOT on a couple of issues the worst being that Xantia hazard light and indicator issue.

when I press the hazard light , sometimes it doesn't want to go off. The indicators too seem a bit temperamental although this could be old contacts in the stem. I seem to remember however that this problem was linked to...

To 99% is one or several injectors at fault.
The engine cuts the pre-injection off at 3,200rpm, which is when the 3rd piston on the HP pump is activated.
If an injector is bad, the pre-injection phase which is supposed to be the 40ms pulse/ 1cubic mm, will become much bigger and is pinked in the combustion chamber, not showered , if you...

Just a word of warning, when the haynes manual says to only use approximately 25 lb ft of torque when tightening the Xantia steering wheel nut (or torx bolt on s2 cars), listen to them. I just tightened mine on using a small ish socket wrench and heard a cracking sound, obviously I provided a bit more torque than I was meant to and it has cracked...

Would anyone be interested in doing the cambelt etc for me.

Hi I need a wiring diagram for a petrol pump on a 1.8 16 v Xantia, the manual only shows fuel gauge . Ive just change a knackard heater matrix, and the passager foot well was about an inch deep with water, ive taken out carpet and its drying ,took rubber plugs out so it can drain away. One of the wire connectors was all covered in white fluffy...
