Like many folks on this forum I'm getting an air bag fault warning on the dash.
I followed the advice to solder the wires under the passenger carpet but to no avail.
I've had it on a Lexia now and that says it's an internal fault in the air bag ecu.
Lots of second hand ones on ebay but where is it located?
Any idea if it's simple to change?
Any precautions I should take?
Any idea what a new one costs?
As you can tell, any advice gratefully received.
While I'm at it,
many thanks to all the folk who take time to post solutions on the forum, I've only had the C5 a few weeks but have already fixed;-
rear window not opening
rear tailgate gas strut replacement (who's idea was it to hide them inside the roof?!)
tyre pressure sensors missing warning extinguished
battery replaced following the long winded and slightly ridiculous procedure (but no probs, so it works)
rear brake caliper mountings cleaned and re-fitted (cured the squealing brakes)
all thanks to advice from this forum.
Sounds like I've just been fixing it but I have managed to drive it a couple of thousand miles so far and it's a nice car,,,,,,,,,
not sure if it'll ever replace the Xantia in my affections but it's early days, I had that one 9 years.

Re: C5 air bag ecu
The airbag ECU is located under the centre console just in front of the gear lever. Once the console is out (only a couple of 10mm nuts & a couple of screws if I remember right) the ECU is just held in by 2 x 10mm nuts.
If you buy a new ECU then you need lexia to program & activate it, if you go second hand then it is plug & play as long as it has the same spec of airbags.
After following the battery disconnect procedure wait 10 minutes before carrying out any work on the system.

Re: C5 air bag ecu
RECHECK the wires.
I had chafed wires INSIDE the plastic protector due to internal sharp edges !!.....good one Citroen
ALWAYS disconnect the battery as per the sticky and NEVER put a meter across ANY of the wires. Meters push a voltage and can (?) fire the bags.
Also, the Mark/Year/Engine would help

Re: C5 air bag ecu
Thanks for the advice,
the car is a 2002 2.0HDi 110 Exclusive estate.
As I live in rural France, a long way from anybody really, I've just bought a Lexia, early days and just starting to get my head around it but if it comes to it hopefully somebody on here can tell me how to program the ecu?
The wires are no longer in the plastic connectors, they are soldered together.
I've read on the forum that a break below the air bag in the steering wheel is also quite common but wouldn't the Lexia show that as a short rather than an internal ecu fault?

Re: C5 air bag ecu
This may be a daft question,,,,but,,,,,,,,
Is it possible to turn off the driver's airbag on a 2002 C5?
I ask because my missus is only 5ft and she's a bit worried she's sitting too close to it.

Re: C5 air bag ecu
As already stated fitting a second hand airbag ECU is plug and play. Just make sure the one you are getting has the same part number. I bought one off EBay and fitted it about 5 years ago. I just plugged it in and reconnected the battery and it has been fine since.
