Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Not a big dog fan, they're ok in small doses... but the lingering pong of a former passenger in this estate is a bit much. Not only that, but the rear n/s passenger seat (the lower part that hinges up when you want to turn the back into a Tardis) is all torn. I guess a fair amount of odeur de chienne is in the fabric and foam of the seating.

I have an issue with a new caliper I'm fitting to my 1.8. One of the small seals thats on the caliper where the shaft from the caliper bracket on the car slides in tore. I have 2 calipers from an Activa I'm cleaning up at the minute and wanted to have a go at reconning them myself so I'm going...

Recently noticed a change in engine noise at start up and idle. On investigation found noise is localised in vicinity of the aux belt which has developed an unusual wear pattern to one side, as you can see. Ok would it be good or bad to go from C5 to XM?

Ok I ike my C5 for the little things like one shot windows, auto dim mirror, auto wipers/lights, xexons, sport mode suspension, tyre pressure sensors, comfortable seats, bla bla bla .

I did almost buy an XM in the mis 90's but ended up with a 405 Mi16, what are they like to own? would have to be...

Having had a bad sinus problem a few years ago and having no wish to have it again, wife is hypersensitive to air vents & draughts. Ok, coming up with many niggling issues, but this one is perhaps the most serious, certainly from a safety point of view.

The o/s passenger seat belt anchor point... it's not bolted down.

Brand new transmission, new everything (all sensors, solenoids etc, converter...) will after some time on a motorway unlock its converter and stay unlocked until a restart.

Fault code it throws it either intermittent or permanent short circuit to positive for either or both of the converter lockup and pressure modulation solenoids.

Today I had the lexia plugged in and showing parameters when idling, and caught the PMV fault as it happened.

The selected pressure was 2.7 bar, and the oil pressure wandered up and down a little from 2.45 to 2.7, spending the most time around 2.6. Seems about right I suspect.

Then for apparent reason, selected pressure flipped to 21(!!) bar and...

Comes with leather, a decent HDi engine and cruise control as standard?

I can only think of the Xantia Exclusive HDi, but then cruise was an optional IIRC.
Or the C5 Exclsuive SE.

Budget is £1000 or under, and dont mind a tatty exterior as long as the running and interior is good but a 'downsizing for cost effectiveness' means im shafted and...

How many miles has yours done and is the engine in standard tune, your 60.1 is far better than I can achieve although I can get it no problem from the 406. On a recent trip to Bristol at a steady 60 mph it only managed 49.6.

I Know a little aready about the motor 1.9td but my understanding is the gearbox has water ingress problems. First how would i find out if the gearbox has any faults and second is there a remedy or prefention to sort...

Nice pics! Wish mine looked like that. I've done 40,000 miles in mine over the last 4 or 5 years and it's 11 years old. No gearbox problems, although can take a bit of effort to get it into reverse sometimes. The gearbox will depend on the engine type, it could be your gearbox info is for the 2.1 TD or the HDi model.

Ok, been investigating the car a bit more, in search of that elusive light on the sport mode wotsit (another thread), and while doing so, noticed that the rear of the car does not rise, or fall, in response to Citrobics.

Hi,
The high level brake light on the C4 has packed up. A test lamp across the plug shows that the wiring is OK but I cannot get the light unit to work. Is it possible to replace the LED's? From all of the ads on EBay for brighter ones I guess this should be doable but I can't see how the lamp comes apart.
More realistically, does anyone know how...

The speedo on my V6 Xantia Mk2 has begun to periodically drop to zero irrespective of the car speed, and at the same time the mileometer ceases to work. Tapping or even thumping the dial has no effect, and the fault appears entirely random, and when it does start to work again it behaves perfectly. I would estimate that the problem occurs roughly...

I noticed that at the same time the speedo stops working the suspension also goes very hard

That's a good sign it's the VSS then as the Hydractive ECU will be loosing the speed signal and will get all confused. A Lexia diagnosis should show a stored fault to this effect..

Howdy all from Tasmania :)

Have my shiny new Lexia fired up, and have found a depressing array of faults... May be a couple of posts...

This one is about the air injection pump, the little critter that lives in under the left headlight. Seems its out to lunch, with a permanent fault open circuit when I attempt to test it. It says to listen for...

Xsara 2 with climate control, and the fan is a bit screwy. It sometimes works fine, sometimes doesn't work at all, and sometimes will only work on one speed - regardless of where the knob is set to.

Lexia wont test the Blower Parameters - cant communicate with it.

When I bring up the parameters, it has a ?? against the blower. Odd one is the...

Sometimes I get lots of black smoke billowing out of the exhaust on acceleration, and the acceleration is poor.

It does not always smoke, and sometimes only smokes when I really boot it.

It seems to me the turbo does not always work, and that is when the car smokes.

Which shows the padbolt partly removed - it also shows that it was in the wrong way round and can't be removed other than by cutting it or removing the caliper.

Needs full image size and ideally lightening in the dark area.

I'm just finishing up a few jobs on the C5, today it was the turn of the n/s rear window which has been sliding down by itself, I could hear the motor run when I operated the switch but but it didn't move the glass, convinced that the cable had broken I got a complete mechanism from ebay.

This is the first time I have done any work on the doors...

Ive been having problems with my zx 1996 1.4 petrol since I got it jan 2011, but it has gotten much worse recently. Every morning the car starts first time every time, but after its been run, partitucully if it's been pushed a bit (motorways or quick pull offs) its very hit or miss if it will start. It will sometimes take anywhere from 2 - 30 key...

I'm sure the light on the wheel is the airbag check light. It should go out in a few seconds once the ignition is turned on. If it doesn't come on at all, there must be another fault. Worn ignition switch perhaps?

Cassy's clutch pedal rubber is splitting, so a few months back I went to the local dealer and ordered a replacement, it looked a lot smaller than I remembered her pedal being, and putting it against the pedal shows that yes the part which service.citroen says it should be is much narrower. I put it down to the parts bag having the wrong number on...

Hi all,

Hope someone can point me in the right direction with this one.

I have a 06 relay 2.0 hdi mark 1 and sometimes the one (near side) cooling fan comes on and the engine light also iluminates.

Any ideas citroen nuts out there, im a long standing Citroen lover but new to the Relay :-k

Anyone know what the recommended oil is for this vehicle please or an alternative for the recommended.

I have read some where that only a particular oil should be used with the fap fitted.

Some of the 1.6 hdi's do have a fap (110bhp) but not sure about 2.0 hdi.

To be honest Halfords do a 5/40 fully synthetic that I have used in every recent Citroen I have serviced, I also use it in my relay and berlingo. The price is quite good if you have a trade card.

The Halfords stuff is Coma but they are now owned by Esso I believe

I'm just at an exhaust place in Darlington where they have repeatedly put in the wrong code in. Now the red light is flashing and its beeping but won't allow the correct code. Just had to push it in to get the exhaust done.

I'm hoping it will resetin a few minutes and allow the right code, though Ive not seen them flashing and beeping before :?...

They disappeared when the key got an immobiliser chip inside it, so no need for the codepad.

Its a good idea really, as most cars which get stolen now are taken with their keys, as they can not be started without the key. So even if someone has the Xantia key, they can't drive it away. Mind, I don't suspect there is much call to take a Xantia...

I have purchased a set of sensors which I am going to fit to the rear bumper of my Mk 2 Xantia V6 saloon, as I have been having neck problems which make turning right round painful. The sensors need to be wired in with the reversing lamps which, of course, are in the tailgate, while the control box for the sensors will be in the boot.

It turns out that the hand brake caliper mech is seized and as a result the return spring is no longer man enough to cope. The brake now sticks despite now being freed off. I'd like to restore the spring effect but wager that it can't be bought separate tho I will investigate.

Any tips? The mot is in a few weeks.

Also the rh cable is routed...

i had the same problem, pull cable out get some pliers on the hook and move it back and forward a lot that should un-seize it, if not get on ebay there are some caliper repair kits on there, if not a second hand break caliper, should get one for under £35 easy to fit and bleed

Hi All right I've got to the stage now were everybody is modding there cars...well I'm going to modify my xantia (tastefully) started on the engine I'm looking now for any company or person that does body styling its gonna be a mint updated xantia with daylights :-)

I an earlier post I mentioned that I was waiting for delivery of pp 2000 and lexia software, It eventually arrived on one disc and turned out to be some sort of copy with a keygen for both programs, I don't know if it's an age thing but I don't take kindly to being supplied ripped off copies of software, and let the seller know, and also reported...

I used to airsoft at Finmere airfield, and whislt working at DERA Farnborough I used to often visit Boscombe Down and have to sit waiting to cross the runway while Tornadoes did circuits and bumps. They had a very nice Lightening at the entrance gate if memory serves. I did always feel disapointed that there were never any Tie fighters parked...

I'm having some problems when starting my ZX 1.9D. It used to start straight away, but now it takes a lot more cranking than usual. The starting is uneven. It's like the engine is firing on some cylinders, but not evenly on all four. The engine seems to almost run, but then there's a period where the starter might be turning the engine,...

I charged the battery last weekend, for about 16 to 24 hours. I let the battery settle for 24 hours after charging, and measured the voltage, which was 12.72V

On each day after, I checked the battery voltage, and it's always 12.6V
The Haynes manual says 12.6V is Normal , (but not Good , which would be 12.7V)

Yet another problem, the rev counter doesn't work in mine, not that I am all that bothered but I would rather it did. The problem seems to be a lack of pulses as the needle flicks when you turn the igntition on and off. As the management seems to be OK I assume the TDC sensor is working but the information not reaching the instrument, any...

I used a cut down cheapy gold coloured nail (the type for picture frames) to replace the snapped off plastic shaft.

Just wondering what the internal diameter of the ZX leak-off pipes is/should be.

I can get some 3.2mm inside dia sent out here fairly cheaply from a well-known auction site.

Just for info:
I've found that windscreen washer tubing is a good (temporary) leak-off pipe substitute. And being almost an M&M green, it adds a nice splash of colour to the basic underbonnet aluminium and black. :roll:

Just in case anybody on here is after one, theres a W reg 2.0Hdi Xantia going through weds sale at Manheim Wimbledon, its got an MOT until the end of Sept and 109k, its also an Exclusive so nice leather etc etc.

As I posted a few weeks ago I'm after another Citroen, I current have a skoda octavia diesel that was damaged but repaired in December and I have since fallen out with it! I can't really afford a new shape C5 And I don't really need a big car as I don't have kids or a dog anymore so I'm thinking of a C4 now. Which engine would be better...

My Xantia 2,0 HDI has now 260 000 miles (418000km), and still runs like a charm. (Knock on wood..) :-D
Burns NO oil. After 6000 miles since the last oil change, the oil is still brown.
Still original turbo and injectors. Not even the typical injector rattle at higher rpm:s.
I think the secret is to service it properly and to treat the car with...

I was draining my veg oil out today sat on a stool next to the ECU and every ten mins I heard a ticking sound from the ECU box I wasn't aware that the S2 xantia did this. weird!!

Hi all,

Just wondered how many people out there have towed a caravan with a C8?

Thinking of getting a caravan, but not sure how large a one the C8 (2ltr hdi) can handle. I know the weight limits for it, but as i'm new to the whole caravan idea, i dont really know how those weights translate to the real world.

Would prefer a 5/6 berth one, but...
