I doubt the piece of plastic holding the cable to the floor will cause an issue with the air bag light, but an intermittent loose connection in the plug and socket almost certainly will. Check for a good electrical connection within. Look...

Afternoon all,

Quick question as I am prepping the S2 for MOT.

I have low force on the OSR. I have pushed the pistons back whilst still on the car. They seemed to retract without too much effort. The brake pad bolt and nut seemed rusty so cleaned that up and worked it to a point that they are rotating separately from the pads.

Well I just took a delivery of a case of Opie Oils finest LT. It came with a complimentary air freshener but I'm a bit afraid to open it in case it smells of cat pee.

Hi, Has the alarm on the Mark 2 xantia changed only as i owned a mark one and when the alarm was set off the horn siren and headlights were going off, but on my mark 2 forte just the siren and indicators go off. I'm thinking wiring or fuse/relay.

Can you get your alarm modifed to add the horn and flashing headlights

Series two Alarms are programmed to operate in a different way.. when you reconnect the battery there is NO NEED to panic about resetting the alarm to prevent the siren going off..

Indicators only flash when unlocking them and blink once when locking it...

I've got a new temp sender to fit to the mirror on the C5. I have a soldering iron. I also have an afternoon free. Now, I could just snip the wires, or I believe I could remove the door card and actually plug it in (where?).

Dont really want to down too much, but before completely ruleing the pump a problem its a 1998 S2 car, so it will also have a crank sensor, though reliable CAN give a starting problem, plus also, have you had the garage check the Cam belt!

Those would be the next two things Id check.

C5 MkIII brakes pulsing

Happening for a while now, the brakes 'pulse' when applied softly or firmly, but more noticeably when gently stopping. They almost grab fast just as the car stops rolling.
If it was warped discs i would hear/feel as they rotate I would think. Could it be air locked (Ive not bled brakes for years!)

I had this problem after mine had been laid up for a while due to rust on the discs, it has improved considerably but it still does it if I brake hard, I think the discs are probably out of shape due to the rust or they could be warped but as I rarely brake hard I'm not really bothered about it.

I had an advisory on the MOT re. lightly cracked front brake hoses. I had a new pair in my stock, so I set out to change them this weekend.

The right hand hose was no problem. Union came undone no problem, old hose unscrewed and new one fitted in a half hour. But the right hand hose......

It might be just me this But today i have a new set of front disc s and pads. When i put my foot on the pedal. Theres still that spongy feeling.
When i lightly put my foot on the break theres seems a delay feeling Have to put my foot harder to get a response from it. Then it kicks in.

Sure enough, one soon went, so I looked for a decent OEM bulb.
I bought some Philips H6W bulbs online from Regal Auto Bulbs ltd and changed the blown one and

I don't know if it is the same, but on an S2 you have a solenoid that acts on a collar around the button. In the open position the collar lines up in such a way as to transmit the button to the latch, while in the locked position the button isn't linked to the latch.

When you lock/unlock the car, listen at the boot. Is there any noise? Gracie did...

I went to my local Citroen Dealer today to look at a C5 as my company vehicle is due for renewal soon. They hadn't any in stock and on checking on his computer, I was advised that Citroen had only one C5 VTR in the UK. Apparently they are pushing the new DS5 which I was surprised to learn is only £300 dearer than the equivalent C5.

Do you know whether Citroen uses hydraulic or electric power steering pump in their C5 II (year 2004 ~ 2008)?

If electric power steering pump is used, does it still rely on the shared reservoir with the suspension system?

What exactly is the allure of an electric power steering pump ?
It only pumps when you're steering at low speeds, so it needs sensors and other troublesome frills to find out how you're steering. :evil:

The C5's electric suspension pump keeps the car level on the move.
The headlights dim when it switches on, and it also causes the idle speed to...

we went to look at an X reg Synergie and a Y reg Pug 806 both apparently same engine,

the Synergie has had all the front removed right back to the engine, all parts still there except the front bumper and head lamps,

the 806 is complete with half leather and under bonnet fuel pump leaking,

the owners intend to sell both but not the Pub before...

Hi All,

New to the forum but previous owner of 4 XM's.

I've just bought my first CX, a 1985 EFI Familiale.

It runs well but starts badly and idles roughly. Basically, although it's injected, at acts on start up like it needs choke, so I have to pump the pedal a bit and it takes about 15 secs or so to settle down.

Construction & Use Regulations require the error on car speedos to be -0 to +10% (before 1/2/2002 IIRC) and subsequently -0 to +5%. Both our Xantias (96 & 98 reg) read 5-6% fast. But a constant 8mph error at all speeds ? is odd.

as mentioned the clocks have been changed (they are a year newer than the car and the mot sheet show the mileage...

That's about £30 000 :shock: Much more like an Australian price for the C5.

The 1.6 petrol, as they offer, is not specially economical on fuel due to the car's weight. But - electricals - you most likely won't have the English problems of damp and corrosion to cause trouble. Maybe just the tyre pressure monitors!

My intermittent turbo struck at the Dartford Crossing last night after months of good behavior :roll:

When clearing off the faults this morning to make quiet the orange light of pain a couple of other unexpected faults popped up:

There are different types/colours of coolant, and you should use the right one for your car. One way to find out what type you need would be to go onto Euro Car Parts website, enter your vehicle reg, and then search for coolant.

Checked the site and basically it gives option of both red and blue. I am currently using blue.

Apart from hydraulic problem I recently posted, I have also this problem now. When trying to start the car, the abs warning light on, and keep on. I couldn't start the engine.
This has happened before, but usually I just waited for around 5 minutes, the problem solved by it self. I've been waiting for almost 30 minutes now, and the problem...

Maybe you have corrosion in some of the wiring or multiplugs, Xantia wiring is a bit vulnerable where it runs along the underneath of the radiator x member, especially at each end of the protective sleeving. Perhaps your ABS & non running faults are linked in this way.

The water temperature warning light used to come on randomly on our Xantia and a replacement water level sensor has cured it (a pre-enjoyed one).
Twist the head of the sensor by about 90 degrees (on the Xantia) and pull out to change it, once aligned, comes out easily.

I bought a 53 plate 2.0 hdi picasso a few months ago, and is getting really difficult to start now. It seems to turn over very slowly and now needs a jump start to get it going in the morning.

I have had the Battery tested at a local garage and they said it's Ok, but it as a date stramped on it from 2003, the car as done 76k and runs really...

You can't tell if a battery is OK by measuring the voltage, it will still read 12v when its nearly flat, it needs a load putting across, if they used a load tester how long did they test it for? Does it turn over faster when you jump it? if so I would say that the battery needs replacing. Otherwise it could be a tired starter motor.

I remember seeing a post on here where someone ordered a battery clamp off the bay of fleas and fitted it to their Xantia.

Well the positive one needs doing on mine before i sell it and am wondering if there is a good aftermarket one or whether i should use one of the ones off the breaker Xantia as they are soft lead i was thinking i could cut...

remote diagnosis can be a bit difficult, but here goes.

1. What you describe is absolutely normal. You have to remember that your Xantia has an active suspension system. When you park, stop the engine, get out of the car, then later get back in, the height correctors compensate for for the changes in load and height while the engine isn't running...

I need to top up break fluid on my 2007 Citroen C4 2lt Unleaded.
Which type of break fluid I should use. I noticed there are DOT4, DOT5.1 etc stuff but I am not sure which one to go with. Your help much appreciated.

DOT 4 and 5.1 are practically the same stuff and can be mixed, the only difference is that 5.1 has a higher boiling point than 4.

Unless you're regularly boiling your brake fluid DOT 4 is fine :lol:

Afternoon folks,

Not my car however wondering if anyone had some ideas...

Series 2 Xantia (V6 Exclusive) with all four electric windows not working...

Apparently the fuses in the fusebox are fine.

Wondered if anyone had any ideas what it could be - sounds like it will be something stopping the lot of them working, unless all four motors have...

Had the same problem on my S2 Xantia. It was a broken wire in the loom at the point where it goes between the A post an the Driver's door. It was a thick green wire if I remember correctly.

Tick ticking indicator again!!

I am sure this topic has been covered lots of times before but for me its first time. My indicator on right turn only is tick ticking! If I hold stalk up its ok and if I tap it down it also holds - but normal operation and its the fast ticking sound. Do I need a new switch or can I repair? Its working fine on left turn. Hazard lights all good....

I had this problem too. A blob of blu tack weighted the stalk down to stop it for a few months, after that stopped working got a new one. Easy enough to change.

C5 - can Lexia tell me which parking sensors are not working

I am getting an error telling me my parking assistance is not working properly.

If I hook it up to a lexia will it tell me which of the sensors is defective?

Also, i have a number of spare sensors. Is there a way of telling if they are working, eg measuring resistance or something across the contacts.

hi its been a few months since i posted about my relay which suddenly decided it would,nt start due to and electrical problem which was diagnosed as a comunication error from between the engine and the ecu every thing was ok but it would,nt start! after may hours tracing all the wires and cleaning all the connections replacing the cam and crank...

I am quite shaky with the electrical side of maintainence. Will have a go at most mechanical issues, but electrics are a minefield to me!

On my 2.7hdi C6 the twin cooling fan is not working. I it would likely be the same fan as on C5 and 407 2.7hdis, and I suppose cooling fan issues may be relatively universal.

Cars with 2 fans normally have one fan for radiator cooling and the other for the air con cooling. Its not unusual (Tom Jones) to have them both come on in extreme temp conditions when one fan isn't sufficient.

C5 - Which Front Discs to Buy?

I need to get a new set of vented discs for my C5 and have had a look on the eurocarparts site and they list two brands - Pagid and Eicher - neither of which I have heard of.

Anybody know whether these are any good or if not, suggest where i can get some discs at a good price.

I would echo some of the sentiments above.
I think both makes are perfectly decent but would probably feel most comfortable in terms of longevity with Pagid.
Despite being a premium brand that is often marketed as having motorsport links I have found EBC to be awfully hit and miss, particularly in terms of brake pads.

example, the O.E.M part number for my berlingo is 1731L8 and a search on ebay had this 1

Interesting, its just what my mot test station told me, he said because my car was so old it didnt need type approved parts (BS/EN) and it only meant the quality of the parts were garranteed to meet a set standard, also that post 20XX reg cars would fail without type approved systems due to the fact it was common knowledge they dont perform well...

Thing is the XUD is a quicker revving engine compared to the HDi but the HDi has more torque than the XUD.

The fuelling wins it for me at the moment in the battle although the smoothness of the HDi and its higher MPG is good as well :)
