xantia 2.0 hdi 109 misfire

Unread post by naeluckwifrenchcars »

Hi Guys,Hopefully one of you will be able to help me with a problem(possibly more) I have on my xantia 2.0 hdi 109 exclusive.tickover is great, will drive fine with no smoke(no turbo either, has not worked since I bought the car)BUT if you try to rev it stationary,it won't go over 3000rpm starts misfiring and smokes like a roomful of barbecues. Also doesn't like hills much when towing a caravan. There are no flashing lights on the dash unless you put the heater on,Stop light and temp gauge light. It initially threw up a fault with the injectors but after a while the the EML went off by itself(comes on for a while and then disappears again.EGR valve has been bypassed and pipes cleaned out, also swapped injectors from a 2.0 hdi 90 which helped for a while. It passed its Mot like this.I don't think the fuel consumption is as good as it should be.A mate told me he could smell diesel and thought the car was overfuelling, any help would be greatly appreciated as the wife doesn't like the modifications I have done to my hair. The other car started no problem after I had changed the injectors and only had a slight miss.I had no issues with the car during a 800 mile round trip to the Scottish Highlands except for a lack of power on the hills while towing a caravan and the noticable lack of turbo power, many thanks in advance for looking at my plea for help, jim.

I cured my low power and occasional engine light by swapping the turbo electrovalve with the now redundant EGR one, just swap the pipes and electrical connectors over, I was surprised :)

Hmmmm theres serious issues if it wont rev over 3k, shes in Limp Home mode to protect the engine from something or another.

Idealy you need the car read by a Lexia Diagnostic equipment to see what faults are recorded on the engine ECU.

If its smokeing a lot, check the underside of the intercooler pipe just before it is attached to the inlet manifold..

A hdi 110 in good health should not be shy of any hills even with a caravan on the back. Are you in the UK? or more so, where in the UK are you if you are...

Won't the overfuelling be due to the extra fuel being requested by the engine that expects to be under boost but isn't, so is just blowing it out the exhaust pipe.

First thing for me would be to get the turbo fixed. Hopefully it's just the electrovalve or wastegate stuck open, rather than a knackered turbo itself.

Hi Guys, many thanks for the quick replies.A special thank you to Stewart,I couldn't believe the difference in power(amazing)although the turbo still doesn't work.So far the stop light and the temp gauge light have stayed off as well(touch wood). We are now back to the usual lanarkshire drizzle so the other checks will have to wait for a dry spell.Once again guys many thanks, jim

Check the pipe controlling the operation of the turbo from the electrovalve.. its easily holed if its rubbing against something.
